The Olympus MR-500i is quite a complex piece of technology.
Firstly, it is stylish and slick . it has a large LCD screen 9.4cm with a grey metalic surround. The on/off button is built in to the top edge and when turned on produces a bright clear home screen.
There are three options on the home screen, these are the functions it can perform.
1. Music. You can download music onto it and use as an Mp3 player. It has the facility to include lyrics on the screen and you can create your own playlists. The great thing about this is you can have over 8 hours of music and holds over 3000 tracks. better than my sisters ipod! It comes with headphones and removable remote which allows you to skip tracks control volume etc.
2.Photos It can also be used as a digital camera, which is a great feature. With such a large screen, the pictues are great quality 1.22 mega pixels. you select the photo option and just touch the screen to take a picture. It is automatically saved into your folder, which can then be sorted into different catergories and favorites with the use of the Mrobe on your PC.
3.Remix photos and Music. this is a feature i havent managed to get my head around yet! You can set your personal phots to be shown to music. It has different effecst that fade the pictures in and out set to the music. Also provided are standard images that you can choose to add like contempary lighting, suway at night, snow ,all sorts of different scenes.
The use of a PC is mandatory with this piece of equipment, the software loads on to your computer and then everytime you attach the MR-500i to you pC you can upload music and save your photos to the computer. It also enables you to sort out and catergorise your music and pictures and im pretty ceteain that you have to use the Pc to set the remixes. It has to synchronize to transfer music/photos etc.
There are also time date and language options, volume control and screen sound.
Using the MR-500i for the first time was complicated for me, but then im not into technology! My computer wouldnt load the MRobe software so Ihad to download it from the Olymous website, which worked fine.
There are alot of cables that come with this piece of equipment, the Mr-500i sits on a cradle to be charged up or connected to the Pc which is connected to the mains,then the usb cable is connected inot the pC and the cradle. The cables are quite long too.
As a 3in1 piece of technology this is fantastic. If you were to use it solely as an Mp3 then it is a bit too bulky , just the right size as a camera though.
I havent used it to its full potential yet, but what I have managed to use is excellent, i use it all the time. i think its a really handy piece of equipment.
