Advantages Advantages High Quality Lens and Small Size

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lens Cover Closes Too Easily

I owned one of these fine cameras until quite recently, when I somewhat reluctantly replaced it with a (significantly bigger) digital compact. The reason I bought one of these Mju 2 compacts in the first place was the lens. There are several compact cameras around these days that have fantastically sharp lenses, some manufacturers advertise this fact, such as Nikon, who use their finest 'ED' glass in some compact cameras, and jazz up the camera body with gold highlights and ED badges to emphasise the fact. Olympus, on the other hand have always just got on with the business of making fine ... more

Advantages Advantages Small size, weatherproof, quality lens.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be hard to use if you have big hands!

I bought this little camera about a year ago, to replace an earlier Olympus compact which was stolen. The first thing that people comment on when they see this camera is its size - it's dinky! (Dimensions are: W 108 x H 59 x D 37 mm). Small is beautiful though and one of the great features of this camera is the ability to pop it into your pocket and take it anywhere. My Mju 2 (pronounced myoo too apparently!) has been up snow covered mountains, on sandy beaches and even down caves! The camera is 'weatherproof', which means that it can handle the odd splash of rain or snow - however if you ... more

Advantages Advantages Lens is tack sharp, Focus is fast and acurate.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Would be nice to have more control, It is 100% auto 100% of the time.

When I say unsurpassed, I mean by digital cameras of the same or similar size. The simple reason for this is because in a digital compact the sensor that records the image is tiny 7x5mm and in a film compact of the same size takes film which covers an area 36x24mm. Draw to rectangle side by side and you get the idea. So when it comes to making a print a 7x5" is a 25x enlargement while with film it is a 5x enlargement, a digital camera can make acceptable 6x4' prints and maybe even 7x5" prints but you put one of those next to a picture from this camera then you see the difference, at 9x6" a ... more

Advantages Advantages Size, lens quality, features, price, waterproof, sturdy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Basically, anyone wanting the best compact 35mm Camera you can buy (image quality & size) for under £150...believe me when I say 'don't look at any other Camera than this one!!! You won't better it. I also have a Ricoh R1 which is around the £200 mark, ok it is slimmer than the Mju and has a good quality lens but I've had Problems with it, I dropped it once...it had to be repaired. I've had switches sticking, etc. I've dropped the Olympus times and its fine. I've had it about 5 Years now and I'm gonna buy another just keep in the car at all times. The spot metering mode is very usefull and is ... more

Advantages Advantages Stylish, compact, lightweight, excellent results

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly dated now

This camera is now very old - I bought mine back in 1997. The camera has never let me down. I recently had the misfortune of dropping it whilst the lens was taking a photo. The result was that the camera went dead with the lens poking out. Using the slider did not help, because although the motor was whirring away, it did not make the lens go back to its original closed position. After I removed the film, the motor freed itself, and the camera is working finer again. The reason I am writing a review of this camera now is because even though there are now much better cameras on the market, I ... more

    Advantages Advantages Small

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slight shutter delay

This has got to be the smallest non-APS camera that I have ever seen! However, the small size doesn’t sacrifice high quality, and the mju-II takes pics that you’ll be proud to show the relatives! The camera also features several modes, including a red eye reduction mode and a night shot mode (which is good for taking pictures of people and light, for example). My only slight complaint is that the photo is not instant, with a split second gap between the button press and the shutter release. However, this does not really worry me, as I have still managed to take some great photos ... more

If you are after a standard compact 35mm camera then look no further. The Olympus mju camera was always a good compact, but the mju 2 has improved upon the original in one respect - size. I lost my original mju camera and i have replaced it with the mju 2. The mju 2 will easily fit in your pocket (so hopefully i won't lose this one!!). The design is meant to be splash proof, but includes a hard lens cover which slides across the protect the carl zeus lens. This should protect the camera from most accidents, but it isnt bomb proof. The quality of the pictures is very good, but the trigger is ... more
