Advantages: great customer service in York branch Disadvantages: unable to produce undamaged frames or lenses
...hadn't heard anything I phoned Optical Express' Head Office to see what was happening and they told me that their refunds take 28 DAYS!! Not being particularly impressed with this after all the hassle and a credit card bill to pay for the glasses which I no longer had I queried why it would take so long - I was told I was in a queue (makes you wonder how many other people have had the same problems as glasses aren't really something you change your ... ...branch were fantastic but if the end product cannot be produced in an undamaged condition and their Head Office policies on refunds are absurd then unfortunately I cannot recommend Optical Express.

First impressions

I was very bright in there. It seemed very welcoming as you walked in the door. A lot of space, and very tidy. You are surounded by lots and lots of frames. They even had designer ones. There are two little desks with computers on, and a smiling receptionist behind the desk.
As I walked in the door, i was greeted by a very polite and friendly receptionist. ... ...smile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Advantages: Great service, good range of glasses Disadvantages: None really. The appointment was a little late I suppose
...have just come back from Optical Express with a brand new pair of specs. Not only is this a new pair, but my first ever pair! At the age of 29 I thought it time I got an eye test. Optical Express were offering a free test if you buy your glasses there and then. As I intended to do this I thought I'd go along. If you don't purchase the test costs £15.00. Now, the last time I had an eye test was at primary school where you have to read the letters ... ...me - both on an optical and fashion conscious level. I was incredibly fussy both with style and some of the ludicrously inflated prices that I criticised constantly. They were nothing less than patient and courteous to me. I finally found my frame (the cheapest there at £60 and that was with a 50% discount) after a long consultation with everyone in the shop as to a) whether they suited me and b) whether they were sure this particular pair were not ...

Advantages: Amazing customer service Disadvantages: The equipment isn't as hi tech as other places
...prices, I booked myself into Optical Express which is where Andrew gets his contacts from. The price of the eyetest was half the price of D&A (£15) to start with and if you purchased glasses afterwards then it would automatically be free.
The eye test didn’t seem as hi-tech or extensive as D&A and nor did the equipment seem as up-to-date but the optician was friendly, made conversation and was just a genuinely nice guy and whats more important, ... ...at D&A; I need glasses and I have a stigmatism.
The staff here are absolutely amazing and I can’t praise them highly enough. They were not only friendly and personal but they also couldn’t do enough to please me. There were four ladies in the shop and they were all helping me choose my frames and they were completely honest. I have a narrow face o everything that I tried on looked too wide. They ended up directing me to the children’s glasses even ...

Advantages: Very professional and friendly Disadvantages: Can try and pressure you into extras
I used Optical Express for laser eye surgery after my brother had his eyes done.
He had the Lasek procedure carried out, which left him with dry eyes for a couple of months but almost perfect vision.
After a couple of months of dithering, and after a trip to Rome getting infuriated with seeing fantastic sites through misty lenses, I decided to go ahead with the procedure.
I went to the consultation in the bright an clean Leeds clinic. I was very ... ...the surgeon adn given the go ahead to go home.
Uncomfortable couple of hours, but was watching TV by the evening - without glasses!!
In conclusion, a very good, honest service. They were professional and friendly at all times and I would thoroughly recommend both Optical Express and the procedure. ...

Advantages: plenty of choice and individual attention to begin with Disadvantages: Complaints resolution is clumsy and downright odd
Went to Optical Express in the Trafford Centre, Manchester. Very bright, clean shop with lots of frames to choose from. Initial meet-and-greet was good with staff helpful but not pushy when told I only wanted to have a casual look today;planned to return the following week or so when had more time. Concerned about my eyesight I felt compelled to go to an independent optometrist for another test and what do you know, my eyes had not changed significantly from the test he had conducted some 4 years ago.
No worries says the store manager, come back and we'll do another test and get everything sorted out, we value your custom and so ...

Advantages: knowledgeable and friendly staff, professional service, well presented store, good debit scheme Disadvantages: second set up cost when changing bank account for debit scheme
Optical Express services, staff and admin.
I have worn glasses and contacts for the past 18 years and I have been with many independent and high street stores. I recently moved to Stockport and decided to give Optical Express a try.
The first impressions of the store were good. It is very clean and well lit with a good selection of glasses, cleaners and eye care products. The other eye care options such as laser surgery and regular check up reminders ... ...my new account. Unfortunately Optical Express said I had to pay the £45 set up cost again even though I had only been a customer for 3 months. Aside from the above direct debit issue I would - because of the good treatment I have received - recommend this very friendly, knowledgeable and professional optician to everyone of my family, friends and Ciao users. Bravo Optical Express ...

Advantages: Good Location, friendly and polite staff, good choice of products Disadvantages: Once they have your money they lose interest
...had Lasik with wavefront at Optical Express Bluewater 3 months ago. It cost £2500 in total to do both eyes. My wife was declined due to 'dry eye'. I was told the wavefornt would help my night driving vision. My left eye had instant 20/20 vision but the right has slowly gone out out of focus, which I'm constantly told is 'expected', although this fact is not mentioned on their pre op literature and is quite worrying as I have to drive to work each ... ...itself.
In the meantime Optical Express 'lost' the expensive prescription sunglasses my wife ordered, kept us waiting over an hour while looked in every cupboard for them and then said, when we asked for our money back, it was 'not their policy' to refund payments made by debit card. They said a cheque would be issued within 21 days. After nearly 30 days, and many unfruitful calls to their customer service line, I was told the Manager would NOW ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: The most traumatic experience of my life.
I' 've spent £2,500 on laser eye surgery and it was the worst thing that could've happened to me: The anaesthetic did not work properly, and I was in agony throughout the operation until I could get home, take a large dose of painkillers and go to sleep.
I was sweating and shaking with the pain throughout the surgery. It was the worst experience I've ever had - while the surgeon repeatedly shouted at me to 'relax and stop resisting'. Despite me ...

Advantages: The surgeon Disadvantages: The WORST customer experience of my life.
Optical Express - BLUEWATER. Had a complete disaster. My friend previously had surgery here. She was happy with surgery but didn't think customer service was up to scratch but I decided to give it a go. From first impressions, customer service was pretty awful. Staff were like robots, just reading a script. No personal service whatsoever. Next I met the optometrist. Now I'm aware I suffer from quite severe dry eyes and have done so for years. I wanted ... ...to them. If Optical Express can EVER be bothered to respond to my complaint, I will post back here, but don't hold your breath. Overall - the WORST customer experience of my life and even more so disturbing that these people seem to forget that these were my EYES they were dealing with and they don't seem to care less that they could've risked damaging my eyes / vision indefinitely. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED. ...

I have used optical express for about 8 years and it is so true once your money is being paid customer service is disgraceful. I am on a monthly direct debit for contact lenses. I have been given wrong solution and it hurt like hell!! was eventually told I was alergic to the solution and should never have been given it in the first place, great I was supposed to be enjoying a weekend away but now had a swollen, sore and burnt eye. Was told next day ... ...lenses for 8 years! My details have been lost twice. Every cupboard is checked when I have been told lenses have arrived then I am questioned, have I been told they have arrived.....????? My details are even questioned is that actually my name? And try asking for a receipt!! I have been interogated as to why I want one every time I ask. I feel like I should not be making a complaint and I dread contacting them. But its the same over and over again. ...

Quick review of Optical Express
Glasgow, start off big hardsell and lots of enthusiam from the staff, tell you how great it will be to have laser surgery and after a few tests I was a suitable client. The price on the door395 per eye, great I thought , reality 1295 per eye after they hit me with the wavefront treatment, better for my prescription , faster recovery and result, YEAH RIGHT.but silly me went for it as they promised id be fine. No Not fine I was ill they atually scratched my eyes i was in shock and vomited at home. went back the next day some idiot poked my worst eye with a pair of tweezers so had to get the surgeon to put a lense in for me with drops i had to wear the lense for days. anyway i had to take 2weeks off work as i could not focus and had terrible headaches, called numerous times and noone got back to me, emailed , poor service until i got Ahmed OPTICAL EXPRESS CONSULTANT in torquay who tried to help me, he even sent glasgow an email saying i had a botched job done. lots more to say about this company ,but wont have the space, I have had this done a year ago and guess what my eyes are very poor worse than i started and i think they should return my money that i paid them, oh no they are saying i need to pay them???The financial dept are rude and arrogant everyone there knows i had a rough time but continue to demand money from me. Please be careful anyone considering them they dont tell many folk about the bad experiences. keep your glasses and lenses but consider getting even them from a better supplier ...
