Advantages Advantages Service Plans, Upgrading, Network Performance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Customer Services, Customer Services and yes, Customer Services!

Firstly, let me tell you that the fact that I have been a loyal Orange customer for the past SIX years does not mean that this is going to be a glowing review, far from it. However, I will leave my reasons for that till a bit later on and explain how the company works, a bit about the service plans and the way they offer their phones and what they do to them. How can you get an Orange phone? ********************************* There are a few different options for this. Firstly, you can go into any orange shop. In these shops (which are very orange funnily enough) you have access to all of their ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent coverage, good range of tariffs and phones, good website

Disadvantages Disadvantages Refusal to take responsibility for handsets.

I don't know if there was ever any method in my madness when choosing Orange as my mobile phone network supplier. I seem to recall that the nice salesperson in the Carphone Warehouse advised me when trying to pick and choose between a number of different Pay as You Go (PAYG) tariffs over the various networks that it would make sense given my planned limited usage to simply join the same network that most of my friends were on. That, as you might have guessed, was Orange. Back in those days (August 2000), when it came to the relatively new area of PAYG mobile tariffs, it was hard to pick a ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range of handsets & plans. Most advisers do their best for you.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Coverage could be better in Places. Take some persuading sometimes to get your point across.

Mobile phones. Most people have these now, and therefore will need a service provider. In the United Kingdom there are five heavyweights of the mobile phone market. Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile, Three and Orange. I got my first handset in 1997 at the tender age of 19. I got it from Orange which was advertised on a leaflet, and for some reason or other I have stayed with them for 13 years. We hear many customer service horror stories about various mobile providers, so I thought I’d share my personal experience of this mobile phone provider. Freshly Squeezed Orange (From Concentrate) First a bit of a ... more

Mobile phones. Most of us seem to have one now, and they're used a hell of a lot - from work calls to calls to friends to the quick text message to check if someone is going to be on time. To be honest, I don't know how I coped before I had my mobile! I got my first mobile at the age of 16 - bad news for my mum, as it was a contract phone, and, because I wasn't 18, she was the one who was billed. I was supposed to pay her back, of course, but with bills reaching £100 a month, I had trouble finding the money. I was on One2One at the time, and as it was my first mobile phone, we hadn't properly ... more

Advantages Advantages Good network coverage, reasonably priced tariffs

Disadvantages Disadvantages They can't handle anything more complex than a straightforward new account

In December, I received a phone call asking me if I’d like to get a new mobile phone for free and a four night cruise to Spain and back. Sounds good. The service provider would be Orange and the new phone, a Motorola Talkabout (T2288e). And a WAP phone, no less. Oh yes, sounds like a bargain and my old phone was chunky and outdated and a holiday would sure be good. I had a few requirements of my own however. My husband was already on Orange and had been for a few years. I was on BT Cellnet and had finished the tie-in period. But I wanted to keep my current phone number as firstly ... more

Advantages Advantages 3 different call-charge plans to suit different users, free talk-time when you register, 10% free talk time on £50+ top-ups

Disadvantages Disadvantages Relatively expensive call and text charges, have to pay to use WAP

Currently Orange Pay As You Go offers three different distinctive call-charge plans that you can select from according to when you like to use your mobile and for how long. The three plans on offer are named (fairly self-explanatorily) ‘Fixed Rates All Day’, ‘Choose Your Own Off-Peak’ (formerly known as Just Talk Original but more comparison between the old and the new later) and ‘Talk and Save’ (a reincarnation of Just Talk Plus). So What Exactly are these ‘Fixed Rates All Day’ and Which Mobile Users Should Go For This Plan? This is a plan in which calls, texts and WAP are charged at the same ... more

Advantages Advantages 5 Free Texts a Day, £5 free talk time, a free beach bag if you're lucky!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Used to cost £14.99 (one off-payment), now £19.99 a year, can't use them abroad

What would you say if I were to offer you 5 text messages a day, forever, for the bargain one-off payment of £14.99? This was exactly what Orange were offering a year and a half ago when I got my phone (on Orange Pay as You Go) along with a surprise little black box for Christmas… This little black box was the home of my ‘Orange Out Here’ pack, one of its contents being a rather cool little black beach bag with the big Orange logo on one side (obviously the side not on show when I’m wearing it…he he) and c u L8r in suitably computerised looking writing (it looks like each letter is formed from ... more

Advantages Advantages Sim card doesn't expire, competitive rates to landlines and other orange phones

Disadvantages Disadvantages top up vouchers can be difficult to find.

Having had a contract phone with BT Cellnet for three years prior to leaving the UK, I had a quick dalliance with a Genie pre-paid tariff before changing to Orange Just Talk for my infrequent visits to Britain. Admittedly pre-paid would drive me bonkers if I had to use it the whole time as topping up seems to become the bane of someone’s life. The main reason for choosing the Orange Just Talk PAYG solution was the fact that the SIM card doesn’t ever expire, whereas with Genie PAYG I had to keep topping up the card monthly in order to keep my card active. Whilst it had come with a large amount ... more

My new phone or should I say tariff lets me 'Just Talk' or as the circumstances may be like myself, 'Just text' It's so great, I can top up whenever I need to and talk whenever I like.... or text!!! I have been with the Orange network since owning my first mobile phone at the age of 16 (13 years ago) and (touch wood) I have encountered very little problems with them. At present my partner and I have both our mobile phones and our home broadband with Orange because we believe they offer good customer service as well as cost efficient prices. The Broadband we get from them amounts to just £5.00 with unlimited downloads which is an offer they advertise should you have a phone contract with them. They also offer free internet should you have a contract with them but with limited downloads ... more
