...we need to know about Othello can be found in Act 1 Scene 3 by analysing the scene carefully to show how it prepares us for the rest of the play. What issues are raised in this scene? How does Shakespeare make this scene dramatic?
Othello is a play written by William Shakespeare that he wrote between the years 1601 and 1605. It was written between his two plays Measure for Measure and Macbeth, which was another tragedy similar to Othello. Because ... ...or simply exploring his creativity. Othello was first performed in the Globe Theatre in London.
The original Globe Theatre was very unique, unlike modern day theatres. Although Shakespeare's plays were performed at other venues during his career, the Globe Theatre in the Southwark district of London was the venue at which Shakespeare's best known plays (including his four tragedies) were first produced. The Globe was built in 1599 by one of his ...

Advantages: Written by Shakespeare of course! Disadvantages: some characters are not plausible, Othello looses tragic hero status
As I am studying Othello for A Level I believe that I can boast an adequate understanding of the play. Written by Shakespeare it is one of the 4 great tragedies and in my opinion, the most exciting and suspense filled. The source comes from a collection of 112 short stories called the Cinthio Gli Hecatommithi written by Cinthio, an Italian writer in the 16th century. Twice as long as Macbeth, Othello boasts a complex but compelling plot and an admirable ... ...thus:
Othello is a black African moor and weds Desdemona in secret; a girl of high birth and status in Venice. Iago, who it is argued is the protagonist of the play, is Othello's third in command and hates his officer. The apparent reasons for this are because Othello chose one Michael Cassio over Iago for lieutenancy and rumours that Othello has slept with Iago's wife, Emilia. Through this hatred, Iago devises a plot based on infidelity and a lack ...

...the play of that name. Othello is one of the best tragedies of Shakespeare and Othello is one of the most favourite characters with the actors who have been acclaimed as the most successful performers in the history of Shakespearean stage, from Richard Burbage, the famous renaissance actor (1619), upto Lawrence Oliver in the 20th century. Advantages: strong characters, good plot Disadvantages: can be confusing
Being categorized as a tragedy, 'Othello' contains all the doom and gloom that you'd expect. This play by Shakespeare is extremely engorssing and I view it as being a lot more meaty than some of his other works eg.'Romeo and Juliet'. The reason that the play works so well is that the main characters 'Othello' and 'Iago' are extremely strong and interesting.
The storline behind the play is that 'Iago' ( a soldier) wishes to take revenge on 'Othello' ... ...of Iago. Iago sets about tricking Othello, 'the Moor' into believing that his wife 'Desdemona' if having affair with Cassio. Through his malicious lies and by betraying Othello's trust in him, Iago's plan is a success. Inevitably, there won't be a happy ending.
