…well read on, as this magazine may save your sanity! From time to time, we all run into problems with our computers, be it hardware or software related, and quite a few times we just can’t find the answers to the problem. During these times you would literally kill to have that bit of advice from the experts, a few tips to point you in the right direction and someone to get your computer back on the road, but all too often you are sat there fiddling about, getting nowhere and failing to solve your problem, pulling your hair out and cursing away wanting to smash you useless machine to bits ... more

Advantages Advantages Awash with useful information

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey unless you subscribe

I love reading PC magazines and have to limit myself or my bookshelves would be full and my pockets empty. I am an engineer and in my early days I did fault finding which involved finding answers to tricky problems. If you have a PC with the Windows GUI then you will be heavily involved in trying to solve tricky problems. This is Bill Gates mission in life. When I first started using a PC at home I was gratified to find a magazine called PC Answers (PCA). I really needed answers, at that time, as I had the old buggy Windows 3.1. I don’t buy PCA regularly but when I need a fix this is the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Typical cheapo cover CD

Want to read a computer mag that is genuinely helpful, full of useful advice and not just for the beginner, not overrun by pages and pages of adverts? Well, this could just be a magazine which breathes fresh air on the stale shelves of WHSmith. ~~Who's the magazine for? 1. People who know a little about computers but need more in-depth advice on software matters. For instance, you will find in-depth features, usually over several issues, about a particular type of common software (Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft products etc.) with step-by-step illustrations on how to use it's most useful features ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of usefull info, few Ads

Disadvantages Disadvantages few ads mean a higher price than some other mags

I buy Computer magazine regulary. PC Answers is one of thoses which I now buy every month or at the very least borrow each copy every month. The main reason for buying PC answers is that this magazine is actually filled with *usefull* information on computer hardware, its explained in plain English. I do know my computer Jargon, being in the bussiness, but i still like to read things in normal language. PC Answers is not full of adverts and every page is used to maximum potential. This makes the magazine smaller than some others and it makes the price higher than some others, but this one is ... more

    2 Stars Not wonderful 06/12/2000
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Magazine contains relatively few adverts, and is printed on reasonably high quality paper

Disadvantages Disadvantages The editorial is mediocre, and its far too expensive

PC Answers is one of those computer magazines where they seem to spend half their time working on the CD Rom, and half their time on the magazine. Whilst the magazine is OK, ComputerActive is a very similar type of mag but it goes much more in depth, and explains all the jargon too. The £4.99 price tag may be low when compared to some computer magazines, but it is rather expensive when you actually get hold of the magazine and CD-Rom and see what you have got for your money: a 114 page magazine, and a CD-Rom containing mostly freeware and shareware which can be downloaded anyway. What little ... more

i have been reading pcanswers for many years and always found it informative and helpful. after buying my first pc back when windows 98 was the latest thing and it took a life time to load any web pages on my dial up modem, I needed help doing the simplest things. Each time I turned on my pc I found more frustration and the only place to turn was a costalot advice line, not wanting to run up massive phone bills every time my pc crashed I went down to my local newsagents where I found the answer to my prayers, sitting on the shelf was a copy of pcanswers. After spending 10 minutes browsing the ... more

Advantages Advantages excellent mag, not too many ads

Disadvantages Disadvantages none that I can see

This magzine is one of my favorites, mainly bacause it does not consist almost entirely of adverts, the way some mags do. PC Answers does exactly as the name suggests, providing a good standard of answers to a great many problems, both run of the mill, and also more complicated. There are various sections in this magazine, from a large question and answer page catering for beginners and experienced users alike, to reviews and tests on hardware and software. Internet, overclocking, how to.., gadgets, all are included. There is usually a cover disk or two as well, and some of these contain full ... more
