I am an employee at a PC World store in the Midlands and hope that I can give an unbiased review on some of the good and bad points about PC world and How to respond to any problems you may encounter while you are shopping there. Pc world is not expensive. They offer a price match on any goods as long as it is from a retail outlet within 5 miles which has the item in stock and isn't on special offer. They don't match Internet prices, as this would be unsustainable, due to shop overheads. However if you have any issues you can't take the item back to the Internet, which is why many people, including myself shop at PC world

PC world I think they’re great!
If your like me and you don’t know THAT much about computers, but use one quite a lot, sooner or later it’s going to go wrong. It’s at this point that your going to have to look for someone to fix it.
There are an abundance of small adds, in my local newspaper, and probably yours as well, but if you don’t trust one of these one man bands to come round to your house, without any kind ... ...knight in shining armour.
PC world have a service which lets you take in your sick PC, and they will look at it on a sort of PC doctor basis. They will have a quick look at it for you and tell you more or less what is wrong with it, and give you a rough estimate as to what it will cost to fix the poor chap.
There is an engineers report available for a set fee, about £30, which you will need if you intend to claim on the household insurance. Not ...

...bought my current computer from PC World, and yes, I did get very good value overall but the staff seem to leave an awful lot to be desired!
Let me explain! Before hubby and I set off, we did a quick reckoning of our finances and realised we would be looking for a good value computer, with reasonable specs at a cost of no more than £1000. PC World was recommended to us by a friend as having some of the best deals at the time, and being just a mile ... ...a good look at the PC systems on offer and would give him a call when we were ready. This chap was tenacious though, and insisted on ‘helping’ us to make the right choice. ...insider view. I worked in PC World for 4 years, in 3 different stores and in Customer Service, Sales and Business Sales so my opinion is at least well founded.
The main problem that PC World has is the head office. By and large the staff that I worked with were actually quite keen to please but were put under pressure to sell the 'coverplan', were badly informed, not given enough training and support. I shall take each of the points raised in previous ... ...28 days to deal with PC services - which I agree are terrible!!! PC World staff often complain about them as well. Technicians - and there are some reasonably knowledgable ones around are often too 'important' to talk to customers and will try to get the person on the desk (who generally is in charge of the admin) to deal with the queries. Managers do not kick off at the technicians because they are scared of losing them, and at the rate of pay that ...

...things I dislike most about PC World, since they started advertising about how good they were at advice and after sales service (which is probably to be expected from a large company like PC World), is how everything is sales based. A female friend of mine, who is quite computer literate, but knew nothing about what PC to buy for her needs, took me to PC World to make sure she wasn't fleeced. I hung back to look at some printers to see what a salesperson ... ...thought, and suggested a cheaper PC (and I suggested she went elsewhere), the sales guy started talking about how much training he had, and how much he knew about computers. The problem was, he couldn't even tell me what a WinModem (a modem which uses your computers CPU or processor to do it's work, rather than a modem which has it's own chips) was which was a part of the system he was trying to sell my friend, and he had also brought up the subject ...

...late, my apologies. PC world seem to trade off one fact, their sheer size, let me explain that point. People seem to assume that big is better, when you go shopping for food most people use asda, tesco etc. When you buy a car you go to the big well reputed dealer, when you buy a PC you go to PC world, well not if you have any sense.
They have got one thing correct, and that is to succeed in todays world you need to have style over substance, they ... ...who can barely switch a pc on a scanner and digi camera is in my opinion inexcusable.
The people who will enjoy shopping at pc world are those of us with more money than sense, like the people who buy an off-road 4*4 to do the school run for a total of 20 miles a week. ...you want a ready built pc and know nothing much about computors then they offer a fairly competative range of pc's and many available in a variety of packages complete with printers,cameras and sometimes furnature.Now if you have a reasonable income and are quite happy to stay with pc world for all your future computor needs then great,if not then steer well clear!!! What they won't point out to you or tell you is that they supply a restore disc ... ...Whilst I am quite sure pc world have some very capable engineers,I have yet to find one and some of the things their experts have told me about compuotrs have left me crying in amusement .

PC World offers a nice range of gadgets, software and computer hardware. They offer services and advice.
I do shop in PC world, but I do so only when it is the nearest or most convienent. I also consider myself well versed in computers and a geek. I also emensly enjoy frustrating staff with questions - and why not? That's what they are there for. Advice.
First, lets start with advice. Most of their technicians are trained ... ...worrying thing I see in PC world. They charge £15 for putting RAM (explaned below) into a PC. If you know your RAM type and what you want RAM fitting is the most basic and easy thing to do. Most RAM packs come with instructions anyway and fitting (once you have the case side off) takes less than a minute. Other services are pretty much overcharging. But again, they have insurance and other such things to cover. Plus if they break stuff they'll cover ...

I originally slated PC World in my first review of them, but following the need for a new laptop I decided to see what they had on offer.
Has Ayan lost his mind? Has all his technical savvy been abducted by aliens? Is he succumbing to the bright lights and glossy fascias of hghstreet stores?
Well the answer to all three of the above is a firm NO, but at the end of the day it came down to basic economics. What I use a latop for is mainly ... ...I checked out was the PC World online store and I noticed that I could reserve a machine for pick up in the stores. I chose an E-Machines (please don't laugh) E3083 that was £350 as it suited my needs and was wireless enabled, plus it came with a free laptop bag, 50 DVDs and a mouse (I hate touchpads). It lso had the advantage of having an extra battery for £10 that should have cost £60.
I reserved the laptop and this was where my first gripe came ...

This is a review on PC World Business rather than the ordinary PC World Store. Unfortunately, as there isn't a category for PC World Business (as I will refer to as PCWB) so I've had to put the review here.

...bought our first system from PC World, as newbies we thought we were getting good advice and good service... until we came to upgrade that is.
If you're a newcomer to PC's then you don't always know the right questions to ask, but we geared ourselves with a few that we thought would keep us right. However PC World have trained their staff well, trained them in the black art of misinformation. I'm not saying they lie to you, no, they just neglect ... ...we bought a Packard Bell system based around a Celeron 333, armed with limited knowledge we asked "can the processor be upgraded?", the answer was "Yes, no problem". Then we asked "what about the graphics, can we upgrade them?", the answer again was "Yes, no problem". Final question "so the system is fully upgrade-able?", once again "yes, no problem". Just what we wanted, a machine that met our needs and could be built upon as needs arose.

...so called ‘World of PC’s’ PC WORLD. That reason being, to warn any potential customers that it’s not a very good place to shop.
SO WHAT ARE IT’S PRICES LIKE?
Prices of the products has been very high, and has been for the past few years; a little disappointing. For example in the games section of the store, (Where I am if I ever have to go in there) is overly priced. Pc games which usually cost around £29.99 at day ... ...SERVICE LIKE?
Service in Pc World isn’t as bad as it’s prices, thankfully, although it’s far from great. Staff know a little amount of computer knowledge, far from enough to be able to sell you a PC that suits your needs. A great help in a Pc store that’s meant to be the ‘PC World’.
