Advantages Advantages Huge amount of choice, competitive prices, friendly staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of communication with head office, still sales culture.

I have been looking at a number of reviews on PC world on this website and other websites and am inclined to agree with many of the points raised. I am an employee at a PC World store in the Midlands and hope that I can give an unbiased review on some of the good and bad points about PC world and How to respond to any problems you may encounter while you are shopping there. I accept no responsibility for any actions resulting from reading this material and my only aim it to argue the complaints raised on the Internet. This review does not reflect the opinion of DSG international! None of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Most staff do want to help you, decent price policy, generally well trained clinic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting the right information and facts can be a lottery depending on who you get

Being an ex employee for PC World, giving them over 3 years of my life, what can I bring to the table for you guys to read and learn about? Quite a bit I hope. Let's make this nice and easy by categorizing different bits and pieces. Disclaimer ---------------- Before I begin, however, I'd like to make the following known: Everything stated here is of my own opinion and not fact - unless stated. Some figures are guesses becuase I've been out of the company over a year or so and my memory isn't pin perfect. Additionally all views here are my own and not of PC World or DSG and finally... I see skies of blue..... clouds of white Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights And I think to myself ....shit! me computers bust I’ll have to go to PC world.. PC world I think they’re great! If your like me and you don’t know THAT much about computers, but use one quite a lot, sooner or later it’s going to go wrong. It’s at this point that your going to have to look for someone to fix it. There are an abundance of small adds, in my local newspaper, and ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price of accessories and some items, Queues, Selection of certain items

PC WORLD STORES PC world are the retail arm of DSG International group. They specialise in computing items but also sell, TVs, digital cameras, stationary and even office furniture. PC World stores are dotted around the country with stores often located in retail parks so many of them are as big as supermarkets. I have most frequently visited the stores in Croydon, Catford, Charlton and Old Kent Road, with Croydon and Catford being the most frequent. They usually have their own car parks (depending on location) and there’s usually a fair number of spaces which is good, as I hate having to look ... more

Advantages Advantages Spacious stores, vast stocks, inexpensive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very pushy sales staff, poorly trained

I bought my current computer from PC World, and yes, I did get very good value overall but the staff seem to leave an awful lot to be desired! Let me explain! Before hubby and I set off, we did a quick reckoning of our finances and realised we would be looking for a good value computer, with reasonable specs at a cost of no more than £1000. PC World was recommended to us by a friend as having some of the best deals at the time, and being just a mile or so away, we decided to take a look. We were impressed with the layout when we first arrived, nice big signs pointed out the various departments ... more

Advantages Advantages Some staff actually WANT to help, huge range available in most cities

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price, lack of head office support, not enough staff who care

Here comes an insider view. I worked in PC World for 4 years, in 3 different stores and in Customer Service, Sales and Business Sales so my opinion is at least well founded. The main problem that PC World has is the head office. By and large the staff that I worked with were actually quite keen to please but were put under pressure to sell the 'coverplan', were badly informed, not given enough training and support. I shall take each of the points raised in previous reviews: 1. Lack of staff at customer service - VERY true. In fact in one store I worked in any staff that tended to be 'sick' ... more

Advantages Advantages Range of PC's, one shop PC shopping

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of knowledge, plugging of maintenance agreements, staff not interested

My computer has been knocking on death’s door for quite some time now. I’ve had it for 7 years and although upgraded a few times, it really wasn’t up to the job any more. It was designed way before scanners, modems, and CD writers were commonplace in the market, and although it worked with most accessories, it was painfully slow. When I started to get multiple error messages last week, I decided it was time for a change………..so off to PC world I went! ~~ The store I visited the store in Harlow in Essex. I have been there a few times before to buy accessories ... more

    Advantages Advantages Big stores

Disadvantages Disadvantages over priced, poor staff

I have a severe dislike for any of the Dixons chain. By and large their staff is under-trained, rude and have little or no knowledge of the products they're trying to sell. Their only redeeming feature is that sometimes they've been known to sell some decent stuff quite cheap. While I wouldn't recommend anyone who wasn't computer literate to shop there, if you know what you're talking about, it can sometimes do you a favour to have a browse. One of the things I dislike most about PC World, since they started advertising about how good they were at advice and after sales service (which is ... more

Advantages Advantages UMMM if it is raining you can keep dry

Disadvantages Disadvantages only 255 :) will never fit them in

I have written two OPs on this company so far, neither of which I was happy with so maybe it is third time lucky. The problem with this is if you are reading this then you have a certain degree of computer knowledge, whatever that phrase means, and so I have peobably got to you too late, my apologies. PC world seem to trade off one fact, their sheer size, let me explain that point. People seem to assume that big is better, when you go shopping for food most people use asda, tesco etc. When you buy a car you go to the big well reputed dealer, when you buy a PC you go to PC world, well not if ... more

    Advantages Advantages alot of stores

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a great many

The stores; One of the best features of P C world is that they have many stores accross england and they are generally very accessable with good parking facilities and generally on main bus routes. My local store is in Nottingham and is fairly typical of all the stores i have visited. It is clean and well laid out, with plenty of room to browse round and automated large doors, ideal for people with wheelchairs or pushchairs in tow. The murchandise is grouped into sensible displays and shelves so it's not too hard to find what you are looking for. ------------------------------------- Stock and ... more
