Advantages Advantages Extensive ranges of PCs, laptops, printers, software, peripherals

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quality of service depends on the person who will serve you.

PC World is Britain's largest specialist chain of computer superstores. It belongs to Dixons Group (which has under its umbrella companies such as Currys, The Link , Dixons –of course, and other companies. It also has the 15% of Kotsovolos S.A , the leading electrical retailer of Greece!! Which is a massive company for the Greek reality! I bought my cooker from there when I was living in Greece.) I am referring to the background of the PC World because that was one of the things that made me to choose them. ( I have to support them as they support the Greek economy…everything is connected you ... more

Advantages Advantages Local, see what you get before buying

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive

Time was that my Pentium II 350 mhz Pc was the bees knees but time marches on and countless new programs and free downloads reduced this once powerful machine to a sloth like crawl. A quick fix was Ram booster free off the net but this was never going to answer the demands from countless new and more demanding software brought home by my darling children who insisted on hogging the machine. I like to see what I'm buying so I did a trawl around the Pc vendors on Tyneside leaving Pc World to the last. Yes I met the salesman from hell in my travels and found everything that I didn't want and was ... more

Advantages Advantages They do sell a large range of items and sometimes have some bargains in store.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The sales staff are badly trained and don't seem to have a clue about the products they are supposed to be selling or about customer service.

A couple of months back I had some shopping vouchers for PC World and as I needed a new hard drive for my computer I decided to take a look at their website before visiting my local store to see what they had to offer. As with a lot of other web sites they don't always stock the same items in the shops as they sell on their site so it is best to telephone the store before visiting if you don't want a wasted journey. Now as a regular visitor to the PC World site I knew from previous visits that they do stock a wide range of hard drives, the only choice I had to make was which one to buy. Fairly ... more

Advantages Advantages Generally good range, safe if you prepare beforehand and treat it responsibly

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey, will try to dupe you into buying more than you bargined for if you give them half a chance

PC World is a place where you can buy computers… and other stuff. And there you have it, in a sentence. With the number of other opinions about it on this site, I don’t feel that it needs any more in the way of introduction. Instead, I’d like to try to give a little bit of advice for PC World survival. I’ve never had a particularly bad experience in there. Nor have I had a particularly good one. So I hope I can give a reasonably balanced opinion. Being a fairly computer literate person, it is difficult for me to envisage what it must be like to enter the place (or anywhere like it) as a ... more

PC World, the best computer shop ever! Massive choice, great sales staff. OK, stop screaming at me for being a madwoman and read my little story! ~~~ Fabulous Store ~~~ I once worked for PC World, in their Lakeside store. It was fabulous. I was actually there on opening day (read on to find out what I was doing). The store was then privately owned by a polish immigrant called Jan Murray and there were only two branches. These shops were an answer to a prayer for many PC buffs. Opening day was fantastic, extra staff were brought in from the Croydon branch and we were all rushed off our feet. I ... more

Having been a customer from PC World I can say without a doubt that they really are a rip off. I bought a PC from them back in 1997, after months of arguments with them. The PC I wanted was unavailable, so I asked them to reserve when it came into stock. They did this, but they reserved the wrong model. It was only when we arrived at the store, a 20-minute journey by car that we found out that they had reserved the wrong model and the model I wanted was out of stock. They assured me that this was a genuine mistake and that they would order me the PC I wanted and reserve it as soon as it came ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fast, efficient service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Was slightly misled in one deal (see review)

My main recent purchases from PC world have been a laptop, a camera, and a set of speakers. I have never used their online service so my review is based purely on their store in Sheffield (Meadowhall Retail Park). I was quite shocked to see the bad response from other reviews so I thought I’d share my own experience! Store Layout The shop is quite large and things are categorised well. It was easy to walk around and find everything. Because of its size, it doesn’t feel too busy even when there are quite a few people inside, meaning you can shop at your own leisure. Staff Staff are always ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of stock, wide range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ignorant staff, price promise?, overpriced

One day someones going to put a good opinion of PC world on ciao! but not within my lifetime. What i want to take issue with here is the PC world idea of a price promise where in theory if you find the same product elsewhere for less money then PC world will match the price or refund the difference. This is the theory but the practice is a little different. I have had trouble with this on three occasions. On the first occassion i was looking at buying a new soundcard and foolishly went into PC world. As they stocked the card i wanted i went to ask about the price promise policy as i had seen ... more

Advantages Advantages I own a computer

    Disadvantages Disadvantages bad service

I went into PC World to purchase a computer system and found myself starring at wall to wall computers and didnt have a clue where to start. I walked around for about five minutes and then stumbled upon the complete systems and started to work out which one i thought would be suitable and if i could afford it. Im the sort of person who hates walking into a shop and the assistants jump on you but here they are soo laid back you have to chase them. In the end i finally got one to stand still for 10 minutes while i asked him about the system and what would be suitable. I chose a pentium 3 733mhz ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of them around, in case of Emergency

Disadvantages Disadvantages High prices, unhelpful and unknowledgeable staff makes this a place to avoid

PC World, what a joke im sorry to say. I first went there some years ago when I didnt know too much about computers, and after leaving I felt confused and unhappy with their knowledge and service. I bought a PC from Comet. It was an olivetti 233mhz and cost £1300 back then. I was into playing games on the PC and the 2mb graphics card that was in the system was far from adequate. The graphics card was one that was built into the motherboard, and not one you could take out and upgrade. So I went to my local friendly PC World where I would get all the help I needed, or so I thought. I ended ... more
