1 Star Quick review of PC World by soleserenity 22/12/2008
Customer service is awful. When my laptop developed a fault after only 6 weeks it took me another week (with tech guys having me do system restores and a system recovery) before they picked it up. They have now had laptop for 18 days (after i was told an average of 7 - 10 days) and not once have they contacted me. I had to chase it up myself and depending on whom i speak to I am either told the part needed to fix my laptop is in stock or it isnt in stock - different departments seem to use ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly service, very good offers

Disadvantages Disadvantages not alot but delivery can be slow, poor order tracking

I started building a PC as a project last year and decided to take advantage of the offers in the component centre of PC world online over the Christmas period 2003 as I needed a hard disk and some DDR. The choice was excellent and I found the site very easy to use. There were some great offers and I ordered the two items (a HDD and some DDR) on offer which were advertised as being ‘in stock’. I paid mid December but didn’t receive the parts until the end of January/beginning of February. I was offered a refund but I’d already been waiting so long that I was determined to get the parts from ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not Many!

I was looking on pcworld.co.uk, for a external cd-writer. I saw a freecom one for £150.00 (inc VAT), but noticed that it was USB 2.0. But I needed one that was USB 1.1 & 2.0. I saw another, slower speed but 'said' it was USB 1.1 and 2.0. It was £120.00. I ordered it and a few days later it came. When I opened it it was USB 2.0. I was very dissapointed. The one that I originally looked at though, a friend had and it was USB 1.1 and 2.0, but on the web it said only USB 2.0. The speeds were wrong and this meant that I couldnt get the maximum out of the drive. I e-mailed them twice about a month ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hilariously bad customer service and after sales support at all levels

I bought my Advent laptop from PC World about 5 years ago for £450 and took the cover/repair plan, approx £400 extra over the 4 years. After various serious problems over the years, the laptop finally caught fire yesterday in the room next to my daughter's bedroom!! (literally a flames out the side job!). As I had bought a PC World own-brand product with a PCW cover plan, from a PCW store, I thought it reasonable to take it in and ask if they could tell me why it nearly burnt my house down! As with several posts I've read on PCW, I had to literally hunt down a sales staff, to then wait for a ... more

I started to shop at PCWorld in 2001. Their association with Dixons was re-assuring. I was looking to expand my business and develop online potential. I have found the emachine most suitable for stand alone pc based internet connectivity and the very small business and home user. The emachine has been developed for inexpensive connection to the internet. Subsequently I bought a 3 in 1 printer. The website is userfriendly. The company offer a wide choice of inexpensive items with many special offers including from the menu: COMPUTERS, PRINTERS, UPGRADES, PHOTOGRAPHY, MP3, A COMPONENT SHOP and ... more

I have an extended warranty agreement for my computer, bought from PC World. Recently I needed to make use of that warranty so on Tuesday I rang in and was told the computer needed to go to the central repair wharehouse. (Very little is now done in store). I was told I could have the computer collected on the Sunday or take it to the store where it would be collected on Sunday. I live quite near the store so on Friday I took my computer into the local store in Bradford in time for the Sunday collection. I am told that the earliest collection would be Thursday. After a long conversation I leave ... more

I've worked for pc world for a couple of years now and i've seen all theres is to see. We've had customers insult us & customers praise us. Its a 'in the middle' sort of thing. I would like to address the term 'pushy sales people' I agree some of us are a little on the forceful side-but we are not commission based anymore so those individual persons perhaps that are 'pushy' maybe be that way because of their sales technique, nevertheless, alot of people automatically assume we are trying to sell them things they dont need, when the truth is half of the things yes, you will need. Before i ... more

Error after error with PC World (business) I ordered a laptop on line late on a friday. I phoned on moday AM to ensure that the laptop was allocated to my order correctly, as this was essential for business. Everything was apparently OK. I phoned again on Tuesday as this was important. Assured that delivery would be on Wedn ofr Thursday. I waited in both those days. On Thursday late afternoon I phoned up and was told my order had been 'held' and that there no more such laptops in the country. Nobody had ever bothered to inform me, probably the staff had no knowledge, there was nothing in the ... more
