3 Stars Popz and perhapz burnz. Review with images 17/03/2004

Advantages Advantages No mess; tastes great when made correctly.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easy to burn; lots of unpopped kernels.

One small child and one on the way means that we haven’t seen the inside of a picture house for nearly 3 years! Someone even told me that they aren’t even called picture houses anymore… cinema is the new buzz word apparently. To recreate that big screen effect we sometimes watch a film on TV, sat really close to the screen, lights out, son stood to the side with tray of cornettos… and POPCORN! To be honest, a big bucket of salted, buttered popcorn was always a big part of going to the pictures (as well as a contributory factor to my waistline). Over the last few years we have usually had a bag ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Burn easily

I'm not one to encourage people to use the microwave. In fact I usually do the complete opposite, however there is one product I came across when I was at university that changed my world forever! You guessed it - it was Popz microwave popcorn! Having just started a new relationship at the time, I found myself staying in a lot and watching DVD's with the girlfriend. I always liked munching on popcorn during movies but the various methods I used over the years all meant either making a lot of mess or taking a long time to make. The great thing about Popz microwave popcorn is that it is the ... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty, reasonably priced, quick to make, available in most supermarkets

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fairly high in fat, those little bits that get stuck in your teeth

I hardly ever eat popcorn, but on a recent visit to a relative's house she had made some popcorn for her 4 year old son and I couldn't resist trying some... that then spurred me to look out for it on my next shopping trip, and when I spotted Popz Microwave Popcorn at 2 boxes for £1 in Waitrose it had to go in my trolley! Popz is probably the original microwave popcorn - indeed it seems to have been around for years. Packaged in cardboard boxes containing 3 folded microwavable bags, Popz is easily spotted on the supermarket shelf due to the bright blue, orange and yellow graphics. Popz also ... more

Advantages Advantages Probably the greatest food EVER!

Disadvantages Disadvantages After microwaving the bag and its contents is hotter than the sun.

A about a week ago I was thinking back about the good old days when I was little, had very little responsibility and moderately large amount of puppy fat. This was when I was suddenly hit by the memory of microwaveable popcorn. I immediately sped down to the local supermarket (sped is pobably a slight exaggeration) to my horror all the Popz was sold out. But before you reach for the tissues, it was ok because, after a great deal of super sleuthing (again this is porbably a slight exageration as I merely looked in the next aisle) I managed to find some! Popz comes in a variety of different ... more

4 Stars Homemade Popcorn at the touch of a button Review with images 04/04/2006
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Yummy (When made correctly), lots of flavours, low calorie snack

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quality can vary between packs

**THE SCENE** My friends and I, despite getting on in age, still have regular 'film-nights'- previously known as sleepovers. With the invention of Microwave popcorn, we have a convenient way of making cheap yummy snack-food that, despite the high/100g calorie value [the butter flavour is 504kcal/100g] a packet lasts a lot longer than a bag of crisps. **PRICE & FLAVOURS** You can get Popz popcorn at all the large supermarkets [I know for a fact that they are available at your local Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury, Budgens, Morrisons, Waitrose] The flavours I have come across are 1. Ready Salted 2 ... more

Advantages Advantages love the smell of fresh popcorn

Disadvantages Disadvantages cant eat a whole packet alone

This is a box of three packets of ready to pop popcorn. Each packet is 100g enough to make a large bowl of popcorn. This also available in salted, sweet ,banana toffee and the forementioned butter. I havent tried the banana toffee but the kids like the sweet which I find a bit sickly myself. A box of three packets costs about £1.80 and I normally get mine from tesco and they have the salted and butter in all the time the others not always available. First I would like to say read the instruction on the pack carefully, as with anything that you microwave things can get very hot! I found I had ... more

Advantages Advantages Melt in the mouth, delicious buttery corn!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some kernals don't pop! Annoying.

It may seem odd to write a review on food, but i love my food! My favourite snack is POPZ microwave popcorn, it is easy to make, tastes and smells delicious, and to top it all off, there is so much of it! The cost, £1.79 may look expensive, but for such delicious butteryness, it is a bargain! Everytime i go to the supermarket, i make sure to buy myself a pack of three POPZ microwave popcorn sachets and a large bag of caster sugar. I get home, open up the packet, and put it in the microwave, type in 4minutes, and press GO! Slowly, after a few minutes, the popcorn kernels begin to swell, and pop ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quick, easy, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Unpopped kernels, sickly after a while

We bought this stuff for a party and it was great! The joy of being able to make it yourself makes it much better than the sticky, toffee popcorn you get from other brands. A great buy. strongly recommended. *Positives* ---------------- + As I mentioned, the fact that you can microwave this stuff yourself makes it good fun, it was great fun at my party when we all sat there watching the bag rise in the microwave. + The taste is divine, really buttery and sweet. You can also add extra flavours from home such as sugar. + The smell is also gorgeous, especially when you've just taken it out of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick and easy to prepare,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots of unpopped kernals, taste, not cheap!

Just when me and my mates were settling down for an evening infront of the DVD player, we just had to sort out the munchies.... now if your like me and a bit of a chocoholic this normally means popping out to the local newsagents and grabbing some big bags of m & ms or a large box of malteasers! But no not my friends they all demanded Popz popcorn, so after a short excursion to the local sommerfeld and with £4 less in the wallet we ventured home towards the microwave. The instructions seemed fairly simple to follow and after placing the bag in the microwave and setting it for about 3 minutes ... more

    Advantages Advantages Yummy!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some bits not covered in butter

FLAVOUR / TASTE: This is one of the best microwave popcorns I have tasted, second only to Butterkist. This flavour, butter, is my personal favourite, although the salted flavour is also nice. The butter melts over the popcorn giving a generally even coating, although some pieces can be left uncovered. I would just warn you to wait a while before eating it because it can burn your tongue! EASE OF PREPARATION: the first time I made this I burnt it, and the second time, and the third! However, after this I found the right time to microwave it for and it's really easy after that because you just ... more
