    so england are on course to scrape a place in the quater finals of euro 2000 by getting the draw they need against romania.it is one minute left,suddenly a romanian foward darts into the box past the goal and looks like hes going to run it off the pitch.wait,whats this? in a flash of white,phil has slid in recklessly,hiting the man hard and sending england crashing out.never mind ay! we have always got the next one! i dont think phil has got the quality to play for england anyway! oh well,just follow your bro around everywhere! ... more

    Yes i am a Man u fan so i like almost everything to do with Man Utd. However, I don't think that I am biased when I say that Phil Neville is possibly the worst player ever to wear an England shirt (and I haven't forgotten about Geoff Thomas). He was in the squad becaue he "can play on the left hand side". No, he can't! I am sure he is a nice enough person but he is not good enough to play in the Premier league and he certainly isn't good enough to play for England. I hope people don't blame him for England going out of the Euro championships because it's not his fault he was picked to play for ... more

    Some unkind newspaper hacks probably got it right last summer when they christened the Neville brothers Dumb and Dumber - they look the bees knees when playing for United but just don't cut it at international level. Phil Neville in particular is not international class and he's not helped by having to play on the left as was shown last year against Rumania. It's not his fault and he came to the forefront mainly because of a dearth of naturally left footed defenders, but it looks now like he's well and truly Mr Unpopular.     Well, there are times when words fail me. Fortunately this is not one of them. Heralded as our only option at left back, (what about Gareth Barry? I hear you cry and I'll get onto that later) he proved to be our downfall in the end. Every team needs a fall guy or scapegoat and this year Phil was it, and deservedly so. He was poor in every respect (as to be fair so was everyone except Beckham), not only his in-the-box tackling which all Man Utd fans know is not his strong point anyway (just ask Peter Schmichiel!!) but also in the passing and holding the defensive line.     Disadvantages Disadvantages can't pass, tackle, cross, control the ball or think like a footballer

    Philip Neville is unfortunate/fortunate in that he is the only recognised natural left-sided defender available to the England squad. He is fortunate because this is the only reason he got the chance to play for England, but unfortunate because the poor lad is out of his depth at international level. He doesn't have the skill or the brain and he would be better suited to the lower leagues in England. His last-ditch tackle against Romania was the icing on the cake for his own performance and that of England's. The good news is surely that they can't get any worse.     Okay, he may not be a left-back, but that's no excuse for the fact that Phil Neville will never be an international class player. For god's sake Kevin, he can't even get into his club team and when he does he's hardly spectacular. His mistake versus Romania was unfortunate but not exactly a surprise. A naturally left-footed player would have dealt with that situation comfortably - which reminds me, was Gareth Barry injured or too inexperienced despite impressing hugely in his limited chances in the build-up?     Disadvantages Disadvantages He's got a stupid face

    How typical of the English public and press to put down the best English left-back since Stuart Pearce. One small mistake that happened to take England out of Euro2000 could seriously damage his career if the reaction is the same as that to what happened to David Beckham after France'98. Lets just hope that he is as strong a man as King David and that he continues his superb Man.UTD and England career after this unfortunate mistake.     Apart from that moment of madness when blood rushed to his head at Euro 2000, Phil Neville is actually quite a decent player. Him and his brother can form the basis of England's defence for many years to come. he is equally at home in left or centre defence, which is an asset. he plays the ball out of defence very well, and he can also play in midfield if needed. He is again a Man Utd wonder, and so he has top class experience, I don't knwo what he was doing on that tackle but i am sure he will get over it and become a quality player again- everyone makes mistakes. ... more

    Yeah ok he might have caused england to get knocked out of euro 2000, but face it! The English football team are crap in general! They wouldn't ave won it! As a supporter of the world's best and most supported football club, Phil Neville happens to be my favourite player. He's well talented and probably the most versatile player in england.     Phil Neville is the most overrated England player ever to have pulled on a England shirt he can’t tackle , he can’t go past players sometimes I wonder why oh why does Kevin Keegan pick for every match. He has nothing to offer us and will never be any use to us at all. The only reason I can see that he is picked for England is because he plays for Man Utd and that is no reason for any player ever to get picked just because they play for Man Utd.
