This is a lovely device, very thin and very sexy. You would pay around £130 for it and it would feel like you paid over £200 for it, excellently designed. It's about the size of a Pocket Gameboy (you do know what a Pocket Gameboy is right?) but heavier by three times. The stylus is slightly heavy but it feels metally sturdy and strong with a soft plastic bit at the end. ... ...store your stuff, according to Palm that is enough to store 18,000 extra programs onto it. Not enough? Well there's a Secure Digital memory card slot to add extra memory if you wish. Nuff said. The screen is large and clear with loads of colours so you can view your lovely photos on it, images move smoothly with no blurring and the touch screen is so sensitive it's like we're running our fingers along it's armpit. ...I received this particular PDA, PALM Tungsten E, as a birthday present. To be honest, I had very little clue as to what they could do but the more I have used mine over the last week, the more useful it has become. I believe it will be of even greater use next year when I go to university.
This model is actually a very good one in the sense that it offers a lot of the same features as more expensive PDAs but at a relatively low price. You can do ... ...a high memory capacity.)
· Uses PALM OS 5.2.1 (this is the system the PDA runs on. This is basically the same thing as Windows but for the PDA. That particular program is not made by Microsoft like Windows is; however, you can buy PDAs that run on Microsoft Windows.)

...nor was I after a palm device at all. I was after a GPS for my car. It so happened that PCWorld had a bundle offer where you got the GPS software, receiver and the tungsten device for a mere £200 (that was in July 2004). As a GPS it works fine. Plug in the receiver, attach it to your dashboard and choose your destination and off it goes. There are too many wires though, i wish I bought the bluetooth version instead. The wire sometimes comes in the ... ...or you can download another palm installation program to transfer it to the PDA. A pain in other words.
All in all this device is great if all you need is the basic functions, but if you are an advanced user who want's flexibility, compatibility and user friendlyness, then go for the PDA's that support the Microsoft Pocket PC system. ...

Advantages: Screen good in all light, Lightning Fast, Works with Outlook and Office apps, Palm Reader makes ebooks very easy to read, can fit a huge ammount of information in 32Mb Disadvantages: The lack of a cradle and case are the only cons, but at this price you can't complain too much.

The palm comes with the core apps (contacts, calander, tasks, notes, expenses etc) pre loaded and the additional apps (documents to go, acrobat reader, mobile db, media player, real one etc) are installed from CD, you can install the apps you need and maximise the storage space for your data by not installing uneeded apps.
The included apps do most things i need, i have downloaded quite a few freeware palm apps (found in google) ... ...main reason i purchased my Palm is to be able to carry around technical information for my job, (i have a pretty good memory but a massive ammount of info to remember) the palm does this with great ease.
The best feature for me is the search, i put all my technical info into mobile db format and when i search for a command or value the search result diaplays right down to the Db cell , this means i can find my info without having to remember where ...

...and the existing software for Palm based PDA's means there are plenty of uses for this device.
Musicians and retro computer fanatics may be interested in psytexx tracker, similar to the old Amiga & ST style step-time sequencers. Media fans might find the Kinoma mobile video player and Realmedia's Realone player for palm allow them to play audio & video files anywhere (although most files need to be converted into Palms native .pdb format to be played).

...to send files to the Palm by bluetooth but for the price i cant complain.
Another annoying problem is that the device now needs resetting atleast three times a week, but thanks to the innovative reset pin built into the stylus this is done easily and no files are lost.
I have never had any problems with this device so i have not had to call Palm Support so i cant comment on their customer service quality.

The Palm Tungsten E handheld manages to combine many of the features found in more expensive handhelds with a great price.
The Tungsten E comes packed with loads of helpful applications including NotePad, Calendar, Contacts, Documents to Go (for editing and creating Word, Powerpoint and Excel documents), Memos, Photos (for storing and viewing all your photos), Expense & Handmark PDA Money (to keep a track of all your expenditures), Versa-Mail (for ... ...massive community offering software for Palm handhelds.
In terms of hardware; this is where the budget price shows a bit. There is only 32mb of RAM built into the handheld and if you enjoy watching videos or want to play MP3s on your handheld you'll soon find yourself needing to buy a SD expansion card for which there is a slot on the handheld.

The Palm is also very sturdy, if i was to say i droped my palm about 2m on to tarmac, unfortuently me being clumsy, but it worked without any problems after. which i was really impressed by.

Fed up lugging a bulging filofax around? So was I, but I don't anymore. A beautiful clear colour display and generous memory is what makes this PDA stand out from its brothers. It has all the standard features you would expect: clock, calendar, note pad, address book, calculator, to-do list, etc., plus it will Hot-Sync with your copy of MS Outlook. It also has Palm's eBook software, although you can download Acrobat as well if you want. The new Graffiti ... ...required to learn. It can display photos and play MP3s, but you'll need a memory card for this. I would recommend that you go for the hard case though. Finally, rechargeable batteries and a near-universal charger complete the package. All in all, a great PDA for the price. ...

This is my first PDA and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't have all the whistles and bells of some ipaq's but for the price I don't miss them. The screen is excellent, MS Word and Excel documents are clear and easily modifiable. PDF's are equally clear in most conditions. The organiser functions are all well designed and the rest of the bundled software has so far covered all my requirements.
The metal case has a sturdy, quality feel to it and ... ...shirt or jacket pockets. The interface is well designed and most functions are no more than two clicks away. The Graffiti writing tool is excellent and surprisingly easy to use, even for a novice. Adding notes and even drafting documents is very quick, with enough formatting tools to prepare finished documents without falling back on a PC.
On the minus side, the included cover is flimsy, and detracts from the quality feel of the unit. For me, the ...

...sync to Outlook or the Palm Desktop straight away, and I'm pleased to say that the first sync went without a hitch.
He's now hooked: gone are the old address cards he used to carry round, and he's got his very full calendar and address book with him wherever he goes. He's even showing it off to friends! Next challenge for him is to get Office documents and his photos on there.
One thing we haven't got sorted out yet is an insignificant sync error ... ...reading of the handbook (which Palm usefully have online so I can help out), but it's not causing any issues.
So why not five stars? The screen protector is a pathetic plastic flap, not at all in keeping with the build quality of the rest of the device. A decent flap cover like on my Palm Vx would be adequate. He's buying an aluminium hard case to protect it. It's a shame decent protection doesn't come as standard. A small omission, but it makes ...

...have now been using this Palm for 6 months at work and have finally thrown away my paper diary. This is a very attractive and easy to use piece of technology that also benefits from being extremely affordable. Full synchronization with MS Outlook allows you to take your calendar and mailbox with you. The Palm can also be easily connected to a wide range of mobile phones and is small enough to fit comfortably inside a jacket pocket.

...The tungsten E runs on Palm OS 5.2.1, which is the newest and most up-to-date Palm Operating System as of now. Almost all popular programs are compatible with Palm OS 5, while most new programs that are coming out can only be used with an OS 5 operating system.

The Palm Tungsten E is a great PDA solution for the money. It’s very quick and there is lots of memory for you to fill up with lots of programs or data. The best part is it’s cheap I paid £120+Vat from MicroWarehouse. The package does come with a great multi-country power adaptor and the USB trickle charge and save your PDA when you forget the charger. The Palm 5.2.1 OS is great is got some great features such as agenda, and auto-complete of text ... ...think is a silly mistake. Palm could have designed an small cradle to fit the power lead and USB plug points into the palm (just so the unit could stand upright on your desk for £1 of plastic). The T E comes with Dataviz’s Documents to go which is a really good bonus but it’s a pity you are only allowed to load it onto one PC. So no real home/work syncing of word excel, or PowerPoint docs. You also get an Acrobat reader which is great for carrying ...
