Advantages: Cheap - runs well on AAA batteries Disadvantages: Mono - small memory - basically a diary
...believe to be the cheapest Palm computer - correct me if I'm wrong. I paid £119.99 but these are even cheaper now. Let's get straight to the point. This was designed to be cheap and succeeded. As a consequence it was taken in huge numbers and yet ... I'm not quite sure why in hindsight.
When I first dabbled with hand held computers they came with keyboards and the quality of the keyboard was the selling point. Everybody remember Psion - still around ... ...recognition then. Now of course Palm have taught this system to so many that even though true handwriting recognition is here they still rely on this strange language.
So what can it do? No, you can't write a novel. You'd be pushed to write an opinion for Ciao. Basically with a little patience from the person giving the details you can record contacts. You can plan meetings.
Mmmm ... yep ... that's it.
When I ran a Psion 5MX I wrote articles that ...

Advantages: Cheap, fast, reliable, good software, big memory Disadvantages: None
The recent introduction on the Palm m105 will have a lot of people wondering if now is the time to ditch the old diary and switch to a handheld. OK, £140 is a lot more than you would pay for a Filofax, but it is a real bargain, and a really useful bit of kit.
For anyone who already uses MS Outlook for his or her diary, to do list and address book the answer is a definite “Yes”. At around £14 pounds each, I'm not going to bother!

I purchased my Palm M105 with one purpose in mind and that was to use it as a portable file reader - specifically for Project Gutenberg etexts and error-checking program code. This was to avoid sitting bolt upright in front of a computer monitor, and not suffer all the discomfort and headaches that such inactivity often produces.

The M105 uses Palm Operating System 3.5 and, unlike some of the more expensive models in the M series, doesn’t support OS upgrades. This, admittedly, doesn’t cause much of a problem at the moment, but it means that the M105 will suffer limitations in the future. Compare it to the restrictions that Windows95 users experience nowadays.
Text and commands are entered via pop-up on-screen keyboards or by using a stylised form of simplified ...

I bought my m105 from The Link and it was only £100 - I have seen it in other stores for the same price.
You enter information either by tapping the end of the stylus (pen) on an on-screen keyboard, or by learning how to write characters in a slightly stylised way so the m105 can understand, which is easier than I thought it would be and turns out to be very quick!

The Palm m105 itself is an exact replica of the Palm m100 series, and the only "difference" in its looks lies in that there's a whole new range of colorful snap-on faceplates available for you to personalize your device with, in addition to the ones that already were available for the m100. I picked up the Palm M105 about 3 weeks ago for around $40 and was from the start very impressed with this little unit for the price. The Palm in itself comes with a small suite of software including a fairly comprehensive address book, calendar, date book, note pad (which is neat - allowing you to ... ...hot-sync technology meaning that the Palm can be linked to your computer (which thankfully is exceptionally easy to use) and install downloaded software, update and save address books and the like. The advantages of this are obvious. Firstly there is a comprehensive array of free software online and secondly you can update address books (especially) on your PC, which is far faster than Palms "Graffiti" character recognition system. The Hot Sync technology ...

My husband, the family technowizard, bought me this device as a set up present when i was starting on a writing project. I'd always had a sneaking yen for a palmtop and now i had one.

It is a really nice palm, and I like how you can change the covers.
