Advantages Advantages Cheap - runs well on AAA batteries

Disadvantages Disadvantages Mono - small memory - basically a diary

So, in 16?? (fill in the blanks if you know) Samuel Pepys wrote a huge diary that stands still as a historical document of the time. In the same century, Daniel Defoe toured around the whole of England and Wales and his account of his journey in similar style stands as a historical record of the country. (Daniel Defoe makes for a great read - buy it and spot you home town.) In four hundred years what will they find to reconstruct the history of our time? Not much really ... paper and pen are giving way to digital systems of recording that whilst offering greater capacity in a smaller space ... more

Advantages Advantages It is everything that you need to be organised in life if you cannot afford a Secretary

Disadvantages Disadvantages Changing the battery is a trifle troublesome, you need to do it within one minute.

Remember the old Address Book that sat next to the telephone in the sitting room? Remember your personal Diary? Remember the Filofax that you could not be without? Remember all the Business Cards filling your Wallet or Purse? Remember all those forgotten appointments! These days we all have mountainous amounts of information to cope with: Addresses, phone numbers of all descriptions, Computer Passwords, Children’s names, appointments. Email…………… I n the past we used a variety of books, bits of paper, folders, address books, diaries etc. We then were able to ... more

If you are anything like me, you will have found that as you have got older - I know I am still only in my 30s - but I have got three children!!, you will have found that your memory will have gone. I find that I now have to keep a note of everything to ensure that I do not forget anything. Usually in my small handbag I carry the following. An address book which is now tatty and many of the friends have subsequently married or just moved since I started to fill it in as a teenager and each year you have to make a change in it. A Diary - so busy with events in the childrens lives that pages are ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, fast, reliable, good software, big memory

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The recent introduction on the Palm m105 will have a lot of people wondering if now is the time to ditch the old diary and switch to a handheld. OK, £140 is a lot more than you would pay for a Filofax, but it is a real bargain, and a really useful bit of kit. For anyone who already uses MS Outlook for his or her diary, to do list and address book the answer is a definite “Yes”. SLIPS IN YOUR POCKET The Palm m105 is an new handheld (an upgraded version of the popular m100) that easily slips into a shirt pocket and boasts the power and the memory of far more expensive machines. There ... more

    Advantages Advantages Price and Versatility

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Older operating system

Originally, when the first PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) appeared on the shelves, I regarded them in the same light as their papery Filofax predecessors – useful for some but basically a fad. I was wrong. I purchased my Palm M105 with one purpose in mind and that was to use it as a portable file reader - specifically for Project Gutenberg etexts and error-checking program code. This was to avoid sitting bolt upright in front of a computer monitor, and not suffer all the discomfort and headaches that such inactivity often produces. The Package: After some online research to check that the ... more

Advantages Advantages All your information is in one place and you can easily carry it with you.

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you lose or damage it, all your information is lost.

I bought my m105 from The Link and it was only £100 - I have seen it in other stores for the same price. You enter information either by tapping the end of the stylus (pen) on an on-screen keyboard, or by learning how to write characters in a slightly stylised way so the m105 can understand, which is easier than I thought it would be and turns out to be very quick! If you follow the Welcome instructions they should show you everything you need to know to get started. The interface doesn't take long to get used to, if you're used to Windows, although it's a lot more basic. The useful functions ... more

a pda (personall digital assistant) is a organiser with a diference. i hope this review will help you in your choice. They say sequels are never any good, but that's in the movie business and doesn't really count for PDAs. Palm's m105 is the successor to Palm's first entry-level series model with the same name as the series, the m100, and offers improvements such as a RAM boost, mobile Internet connectivity with e-mail support and a synchronization cradle. The question is: Has Palm made a device that falls between two chairs by trying to make an entry-level device that boasts some major league ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks Good, Cheap, Vast Array Of Software Avaliable online

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Monochrome Screen

I picked up the Palm M105 about 3 weeks ago for around $40 and was from the start very impressed with this little unit for the price. For a start using the (frequently complained about) character recognition system "Graffiti" while a little daunting becomes easy surprisingly quickly. The Palm in itself comes with a small suite of software including a fairly comprehensive address book, calendar, date book, note pad (which is neat - allowing you to literally draw on the screen) and memo pad as well as the standard clock and Calculator. It also comes with hot-sync technology meaning that the Palm ... more

Advantages Advantages compact, easy to master, loads of freeware available

    Disadvantages Disadvantages slightly clunky design

My husband, the family technowizard, bought me this device as a set up present when i was starting on a writing project. I'd always had a sneaking yen for a palmtop and now i had one. Easy to learn and to use this device is actually better structured than some of the zire range (in my opinion) the interface is beautifully designed and the grafiti program which allows you to write directly into the device, rather than using the on screen keyboard, is far simpler than i ever expected. Some of the basic software on this machine is just that, basic. However most of it has upgrades available online ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, stylish, large memory, changeable covers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small screen, not rechargeable

I bought one of these Palms recently. When it arrived, I opened it and was fascinated with the small little device. I set it up on my PC and went on the internet and discovered there are thousands of programs for palms. This model has 8mb RAM, well sufficient for what I use it for. The only fault I had was when I change the batteries, everything is lost. Possibly a fault on this device, as I have also owned a Palm 3, and this didn't do it. It is a really nice palm, and I like how you can change the covers. Now for the downside. The screen is tiny. It is perfectly clear and legible, but too ... more
