Advantages Advantages So many features, Installation, Use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No colour

Introduction ************* I decided to buy the Palm Vx because I wanted a small device that I could carry around with me in my pocket and do all of my day to day needs with and that is just what it did for me. Installation ************ It comes with a HotSync cradle for the Palm Vx to sit in which allows it to charge and transfer files from the computer to the Palm or the opposite way around. From the cradle to the computer is connected through a serial connection and a power cable is also connected from the cradle to the power socket making this overall setup very easy as well as common ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, lots of memory, huge range of software available

Disadvantages Disadvantages monochrome display...but that could also be an advantage

The Palm Vx is for all you people out there who, like me, find that the pace of modern life rather outstrips theability of your mind to keep everything in order and running to schedule. From its core applications to the wealth of software available on the net, virtually every need is catered for, but perhaps the most noticeable feature of the Palm Vx is its sleek and lightweight profile. Its burnished aluminium exterior exudes quality and style and few, if any, pockets will fail to hold it almost unnoticeably. For those that have yet to see one in the flesh, it measures a miniscule ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of memory and massive speed increase

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not quite a web broswer

Price: £249. The original Palm Pilot stunned the Psion and Windows CE camps by grabbing a massive 20 percent of the market in a few short months. It did this by emulating the most common and familiar human interface devices of all time - pen and notepad - using a touch-sensitive screen, a pen stylus and a conspicuous lack of keyboard. This simple but effective design has continued - after all, why change a winning formula - to the latest, sleekest Palm, the VII. But still, in the UK, it's the Vx that's making the sales; it too shares the original design characteristics. Yet, although it looks ... more

Advantages Advantages Very easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Colour Displays are around the corner, and not much more to pay

Having used the Psion series of PDA for about 3 years, I was hesitant to move onto a different platform. Even during the first week of use I was unsure if it was a wise buy. Now though, after around a months use, I can safety say it was a great buy. What Palm fail to promote adequately is that there is a *huge* back catalogue of software available for easy and cheap download from the Internet. Initially, it looks like the Palm rates poorly when stacked up against the included software on the Psion, however Spreadsheets and such like are only a download away. They may be at an extra cost over ... more

Advantages Advantages Light, powerful, elegant, good battery life, lots of software available.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a stand alone product

Once you have mastered Graffiti, which takes next to no time, then the Palm is an excellent tool to have at one's disposal. It has an advatage in terms of size over the Psion in that you can really put it in a shirt, jacket or trouser pocket. The software (Chapura Pocket Mirror) supplied, which allows you to connect the cradle to your computer and synchronise your Palm with Outlook is excellent, and is something I use a great deal, rather than using Palm Desktop as a syncing tool. Indeed for users of other software, it is possible to download from the web anything you require. The range of ... more

I've been using my Palm Vx for over a year now, and I find it absolutely indispensable! When I first started researching, I considered the DaVinci, Palm III, and Palm V (the Visor, Palm IIIx, IIIc, Vx weren't available at the time). I decided I really wanted something with the Palm platform since I wanted to "beam" files to other users. I was initially leaning toward the III based on price, but my boyfriend convinced me to spend the extra money for the smaller size and sleeker looks, and I haven't been sorry! I loved the V, but quickly became a power user and had so many apps loaded that my ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Once you have it you can't cope without it

Wow When I saw the first ever "palm-pilot 1000" (the pilot bit was dropped after a lawsuit from the pen company) I was in love. Bought immediately and enjoyed from then on. Even its limited memory (128k to the Vx's 8meg) was luxurious for me. Well when I finally upgraded to the Palm Vx (palm is now a seperate company to 3com) I fell in love all over again. Its curvy slimline figure, clear screen and brushed aluminum case had my heart jumping. When we get past the physical properties and down to the specs- 8meg rom (memory), greyscale screen, a battery life that goes on and on (lasts about 1 ... more

Think about it. What do you really want from a palmtop ? On a screen that will fit into your pocket, do you really want colour ? I made my palmtop decision a couple of years ago now, before colour screens came into the mainstream as an option - and today I am still perfectly happy with the mono screen on my Palm V(x). Perhaps my usage of a palmtop is significantly different from others, perhaps not. I don't need a palmtop that will provide pixel perfect, colour images of a webpage as my desktop machine might. I appreciate being able to run a browser on my palmtop but, as I am usually using it ... more

    5 Stars Indispensable! 19/07/2000
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Looks gorgeous; loads of apps to download; recharges while you sync

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fewer features than the new Win CE handhelds (MP3 player, colour, etc.)

The Palm Vx, with its sleek aluminium casing, is a stunningly beautiful piece of technology. Ultra-thin, small and light, this handheld never fails to draw admiring comments and envious glances from bystanders. However, it can boast more than just looks. The Vx communicates with your computer via the Palm Desktop software and a cradle, which doubles as a recharging unit. No need to carry around spare batteries all the time any more! Every time HotSync is carried out, data is synchronised and backed up on the PC. You can even choose to synchronise your Inbox to read your mail on the road. The ... more
