Now Thats What I Call a Palm :)

Advantages: So many features, Installation, Use
Disadvantages: No colour

...I decided to buy the Palm Vx because I wanted a small device that I could carry around with me in my pocket and do all of my day to day needs with and that is just what it did for me. Installation ************ It comes with a HotSync cradle for the Palm Vx to sit in which allows it to charge and transfer files from the computer to the Palm or the opposite way around. From the cradle to the computer is connected through a serial connection and ...

Data Transfer *************** Files can be transferred very easily just by pressing the button on the centre of the cradle which up dates the files on the computer with the files on the Palm Vx. The data transfer only takes a few moments to complete depending how much data is being transferred. Use ***** Pen – The Palm Vx ...

Sleek, slick and beautifully formed

Advantages: Lightweight, lots of memory, huge range of software available
Disadvantages: monochrome display...but that could also be an advantage

The Palm Vx is for all you people out there who, like me, find that the pace of modern life rather outstrips theability of your mind to keep everything in order and running to schedule. From its core applications to the wealth of software available on the net, virtually every need is catered for, but perhaps the most noticeable feature of the Palm Vx is its sleek and lightweight profile. Its burnished aluminium exterior exudes quality and style and ...

Fast sleek slim and sexy

Advantages: Lots of memory and massive speed increase
Disadvantages: Not quite a web broswer

Price: £249. The original Palm Pilot stunned the Psion and Windows CE camps by grabbing a massive 20 percent of the market in a few short months. It did this by emulating the most common and familiar human interface devices of all time - pen and notepad - using a touch-sensitive screen, a pen stylus and a conspicuous lack of keyboard. This simple but effective design has continued - after all, why change a winning formula - to the latest, sleekest ...
...looks almost identical to the Palm V, there are some subtle differences in the Vx version. The CPU is now a 20Mhz Motorola device, while there's a whopping 8MB of memory (this is not an exaggeration - for Palm users 8MB is a huge amount of space). New software developments mean that the operating system is more intuitive in key areas. For example, there's now an at-a-glance option for listing all appointments and to-do items for a single day. And ...

Prospective Palm buyer - 3Com Palm Vx

Advantages: Very easy to use
Disadvantages: Colour Displays are around the corner, and not much more to pay

...was a great buy. What Palm fail to promote adequately is that there is a *huge* back catalogue of software available for easy and cheap download from the Internet. Initially, it looks like the Palm rates poorly when stacked up against the included software on the Psion, however Spreadsheets and such like are only a download away. They may be at an extra cost over and above the base unit, but the standard is superb. All of the spreadsheets exchange ...
...Palm has been around so long much of the software has become amazing value for money as the price has dropped over the years - that is the advantage of not being an early adopter as far as the base technology goes. The range is bewildering - and some of it is not only essential - but free too! Quick tip for prospective buyers. Do not even consider the 2Mb model. The fact you are reading this shows you are net savvy, and being net savvy means you ...

...to no time, then the Palm is an excellent tool to have at one's disposal. It has an advatage in terms of size over the Psion in that you can really put it in a shirt, jacket or trouser pocket. The software (Chapura Pocket Mirror) supplied, which allows you to connect the cradle to your computer and synchronise your Palm with Outlook is excellent, and is something I use a great deal, rather than using Palm Desktop as a syncing tool. Pocket sized miracle

Advantages: Small, Light, Clear display
Disadvantages: not coloured

I've been using my Palm Vx for over a year now, and I find it absolutely indispensable! When I first started researching, I considered the DaVinci, Palm III, and Palm V (the Visor, Palm IIIx, IIIc, Vx weren't available at the time). I decided I really wanted something with the Palm platform since I wanted to "beam" files to other users. I was initially leaning toward the III based on price, but my boyfriend convinced me to spend the extra money for ...
...I highly recommend the Palm Vx for all power users. Apps really eat up a lot of memory, and if you have lots of records I do notice that the Vx can search and find data more quickly than the V. If you really do not think you will use the PDA for more than just an address book, calculator, and calendar, than honestly the Vx is probably overkill for you, and by all means get something cheaper. And if you think the smaller size will make the difference ...

Advantages: Small, 8Mb memory hard to fill

I don't need a palmtop that will provide pixel perfect, colour images of a webpage as my desktop machine might. Indispensable!

Advantages: Looks gorgeous; loads of apps to download; recharges while you sync
Disadvantages: Fewer features than the new Win CE handhelds (MP3 player, colour, etc.)

The Palm Vx, with its sleek aluminium casing, is a stunningly beautiful piece of technology. Ultra-thin, small and light, this handheld never fails to draw admiring comments and envious glances from bystanders. However, it can boast more than just looks. The Vx communicates with your computer via the Palm Desktop software and a cradle, which doubles as a recharging unit. No need to carry around spare batteries all the time any more! Dictionaries, arcade games, maps, you name it - they’re out there. Read the latest news using Avantgo software (even in the dark, using the cool blue backlight!). The 8MB on the Vx ensures that memory is never a concern. Text is input using a stylus and the simple-to-learn Graffiti writing. You wouldn’t use Graffiti ...

Which Palm should you buy?

Advantages: Do what they set out to do better than any machines on the market.
Disadvantages: Don't have all the pretty bells and whistles (and problems) that WinCE machines have

...There are two families of Palm available in Europe at the moment. The III range and the V range. All the Palms run the same software, the only differences are memory storage, screen and size/style. The III range consists of the greyscale screened IIIe/IIIx/IIIxe which are all the same size and have 2,4 and 8Mb of RAM respectively. Actually I lied, they are not 'exactly' the same, the IIIe does not have the OS stored on Flash memory like all other ...
...IIIc. This is the only Palm to come with a colour screen. Although technically part of the III range it has a slightly larger case than the others and has a rechargeable battery as opposed to the 2 AAA cells the others take. The V range only consists of two models, the V and the Vx. The two are identical except the V has 2Mb memory and the Vx has 8Mb. The V range comes in a beautifully designed brushed aluminium skin and have rechargable batteries ...

Before I bought by Palm Vx I was using a Psion 3a. I know, old fashioned, not very sexy and limited compatibility with my PC. However, then by boyfriend bought a Palm Vx and I was amazed by how sexy and stylish a PDA could look. I followed his lead and bought one too. BRILLIANT FOR SOME, NOT SO FOR OTHERS

Advantages: Easy to use, Long battery life
Disadvantages: Not as many features as some, no MP3 facility

I have owned my Palm now for nearly 6 months and to be honest I don't think I would be able to live without it. I was lucky in the fact that I only paid £150 in buying it from a friend. I originally decided to buy when after having a play on one in a local WH Smith's store, and was hooked. I decided on a Palm mainly because they are the market leaders and because I had heard good things about all the Palm's the main points being the ease of use and ...
...just can't compete with the Palm for ease of use or battery life. I decided on the Vx because it looks really cool, and I didn't need a colour screen, so it was more then enough for my needs. I did see my friends Compaq IPaq about 4 months after and I was blown away by it's features, not only was it running Microsoft Pocket PC (so it had all the familiar software there) but it could also store and play MP3's and even through it's external speaker ...
