A god-send for dyslexics/dysgraphics

Advantages: Cheap, Very Easy To Use, Grafitti Handwriting Recognition, Great Software
Disadvantages: Only 2MB Memory

...take it abroad, and a palm software CD. ============= +++++++++++++++ Initial Impressions +++++++++++++++ The Zire is a lot lighter than I expected. At only 109g it's comparable to a light mobile phone. The casing is pretty solid and doesn't at all feel flimsy or "plasticy". The 160 x 160 monochrome screen is adequately sized and the resolution is surprisingly high (after having many mobile monochrome mobile phones, the difference is very noticable). ...
...Address: This is the palm address book software, which allows you to maintain a huge address book (within the 2MB memory limitations that's thousands of entries) which you can easily sort and search. Each record allows you custom fields and notes to be attached (e.g. if you have STM problems, notes such as what a person looks like, last time you saw them, any distinguishing characteristics can help you remember who a person is). Like most other ...

Palm Zire as good as it gets for first PDA

Advantages: Easy to use, very small, affordable, battery lasts long
Disadvantages: not too many applications, basic features only

Recently I’ve bought a Palm Zire because I ‘ve got fed up using ‘pen and paper’ and not be able to find either pen or paper when needed to jot something down or to have to buy every year a new diary for my phone numbers/ addresses and appointments. Besides I’m the sort of person who likes these new small gadgets and which, supposedly, make your life easier. So I’ve decided to get one of those ‘little thingies’ which you use a stylus to tap on the ...
...when I came across the Palm Zire with a price, which I found reasonable. Around £75 or less (apprx. £73 at Amazon with free delivery). It is very easy to use and very small (109 g) so you can carry it almost everywhere (it doesn’t take too much room), and you don’t have to worry of losing all your addresses and phone numbers as you can keep a copy of your information on your PC. It has an infrared port, and rechargeable battery (it takes about 3 ...

Looks cool, but a bit expensive

Advantages: PalmOS gives access to many legacy 3rd party apps
Disadvantages: Overpriced, underpowered

The name of Palm will forever be linked with Personal Digital Assistants, and remains one of the most respected manufacturers in the field. Let's get down to brass tacks - a PDA is a small handheld device which you use in much the same way that you would a Filofax, you keep your phone list, diary, to do list etc on it, the benefit in using an electronic device is that you can keep a copy on your personal Computer, and can cross-reference items to ...
...I'd probably settle for the Palm 'Tungsten E' which has double the memory capacity, a slightly larger body, but is more than half an ounce lighter. All three units come with rechargable batteries, which is fine unless you find yourself in the field with a 'flat'. Loose the batteries, and your databases go up in smoke! The great benefit with using Palm software is the operating system itself, PalmOS has been around for years, and there is a huge ...

Palm Zire - the basics of handheld computing

Advantages: easy to use, lots of programs, everything you need is supplied with the unit
Disadvantages: no backlight, only 2MB of memory

I've had my Palm Zire for around about two years now and it was great value for money when I got it (£20 in the bargain basement section of Woolworths) and I have used it on and off every day since. The software that comes pre installed is quite useful and it is very easy to find additional software on the internet. The unit itself ships with a CD containing the Palm Desktop software for synchronising the Zire with the computer, which means that ...
...Palm handheld and the information that was on your zire can be copied to that very easily. The unit also contains a usb cable and a protective screen. The zire is very small and will fit into most pockets without leaving a massive bulge. The internal memory isn't very good (2MB) and the screen is not backlit, but if you only want something to save phone details and your appointments on, the Zire can more than cope with those tasks. The range of ...

Was Disappointed With Zire....

Advantages: Looks good, rechargeable
Disadvantages: cheap stylus, cheap cover, tiny screen, not colour

I was utterly disappointed with the Zire. It cost me £70 new, and was no better than my Vx, which cost less. I ended up selling the Zire after a week, and went back to my Vx. I found every aspect of it cheap, except from the price. The stylus was poor. The cover was flimsy, to say the least. The screen was tiny. There were only 2 appliction buttons. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! The only upside was that the charger and USB were separate, ...
...also found out it is a development of the m series. I owned an m105, and liked it except the stylus, small screen and it was not rechargeable. At least they got the rechargeable bit right in the Zire/m150. I definaely would not recommend this if you lose your temper easily. It could well end up being broken...... ...

...versatile and much more expensive palm top, but didn't want to take it to work as I was afraid to lose it. At this price it's practically disposable! You don't need batteries, it charges like a mobile phone. Has an infra red port, so you can send tasks or reminders to your mobile for instance. Links to your pc for task manager and easy back up. Has a couple of games for boring meetings, handy distraction device! Well worth the money. ...

Great first time PDA

Advantages: Small, Light, Compact and cheap
Disadvantages: No Backlight, Only 2MB of memory

...In my opinion the palm zire is perfect for someone like me. The only con is that it only has 2MB of memory, which restricts the number of games that can be downloaded. It is however one of the cheapest palms around at only £70 curreently at amazon.co.uk. The Palm Zire is very east to use and does its job perfectly and simply. The Zire has been designed to meet the basic needs of most PDA users, and it does that very well. It has all the essential ...
...games. I would recommend this to any first time PDA buyer who wants a cheap organiser which can be easily backed up using your computer. If you want to expand the number of programmes on your Zire then there are many websites offering free palm applications and games. ...

Zire is a great little organiser

Advantages: Easy to use, small, inexpensive organiser.
Disadvantages: No memory expansion, No Backlight

The Palm Zire is one on the handiest pieces of technology I have purchased. Though I have heard bad comments about the Zire compared to its fellow palm bigger brothers, the Zire is an excellent piece of equipment at a low price. To sum it up, it is Microsoft outlook in your hand! But there is more! . . . As well as having an address book, diary alarm clock, note pad, to do list and calculator, it also boasts expenses chart, an infra red port to ...
...new big brother, the 'Zire 21' which although has the same features, boasts and extra 6mb of memory (8mb). However I feel that better improvements could have been made than this. After all it carries out the same functions. Costing around £50 the Palm Zire is a worthwhile purchase. ...

An invaluable gadget

Advantages: Small,stylish,easy to use
Disadvantages: None really

I had always viewed PDAs as a bit of an unnecessary gadget that certain people used only to impress others. How wrong I have been if the Zire is anything to go by. Since I bought one a couple of months ago it has been in constant use with only a couple of battery charges, which is proof that the Zire is fitted with an excellent battery. The unit is small stylish and very easy to use with all the functions that I wanted out of a replacement to ...
...has a relatively small memory but for what I want it will take me years to fill! If you want to run word documents, excel files or view photos then the Zire is not for you,but if you want an easy to use diary ,address book with added functions then this is a must have item. The only slight problem I have come across is that the charging lead needs to be inserted in just the right way to make the connection, but this may be limited to my own unit. ...

(: Palm Zire For the price: Quite Good! :)

Advantages: Quite Cheap, Small, Great Maker! Send your friends notes and applications through Beaming!
Disadvantages: Not alot of Memory, Black & White Screen

The size of Palm Zire is actually quite handy for me, it's not too small, but not a brick! The extras that you can buy for Palm Zire these include my fave: an attachable keyboard. There's no digital camera or clour screen, but there is the power to beam notes and applications to your family and friends who also have Palm Zires! With 2MB Memory to save all of your data and applications onto, it's not much space but then again the applications don't ...
...delete them. With the actual Palm Zire computer you also recieve a cable to connect from your palm to your PC, so you can download aplications online for FREE! at www.palmone.com And a CD to install on your PC so you can easily keep in control of your contacts, memos etc. Whatever is on your Palm comes on your computer screen, and you can change the data on your PC and it changes on your Palm after you Hotsync! I give the Palm Zire: Overall: ...

Buy cheap - Pay dear!

Advantages: Portability
Disadvantages: Does not synch with computer

...of mine recently bought a Palm Zire to replace his now defunct Psion Revo, and was mystified when he could not get it to synch with his Outlook on the computer. He returned it to the shop as a faulty, and had to go to another store to purchase another. The price of the Palm Zire had been slashed to £50, so, being a canny Scot, he decided to take another chance. This is where I came in. We set up the software on the computer, and instructed the ...
...On investigation of the Palm itself, I started looking through the menu options, to see if a setting there was stopping the synchronisation, however, every icon I pressed with the stylus yielded at best no result, at worst a nonsense result, with programmes being opened at random, and not even the same programme when the icon was pressed twice in succession. My friend has obviously decided to return the second Palm Zire, as it is not giving him ...
