~Background~
Pampers Care Mats are now called Pampers Change Mats. I actually bought a pack of these a month before my little boy was born. We had just bought a brand new bed and I was worried that my waters would break whilst in bed and the bed would be ruined. A friend recommended these as something I could use even after the baby was born. I usually research about every item I buy for the first time. However, for this one I didn't and just took ... ...~What are Pampers Change Mats?~

...night-time accident led me to Pampers Bed Mats. Pampers have two similar sorts of products here – Change Mats and Bed Mats. The main difference is the size – the Change Mats are small enough to be put in your bag (square 60cm x 60cm) and carried around for baby changes. The Bed Mats are that much larger and have “bed wings” to allow you to secure the mat on the bed. These were what we were after.
The reason we opted for this type of product was ... ...-Quantity and dimensions-
Pampers Bed Mats currently come in packs of 7. Each mat is 80cm wide by 90cm long.
They are folded in four in the pack. They are not individually wrapped.
-Appearance-
Resembling a small cot sheet when open, one side is plastic coated to prevent moisture from going through to the mattress. The top side has a diamond quilted central panel to wick moisture away from the child. There are clear instructions on the waterproof ...

Advantages: Disposable, protects my bed when changing baby Disadvantages: expensive
Previously called Care Mats, Pampers Change Mats are disposable absorbant waterproof mats with a white soft top and a lilac coloured plasticy underside. The Change Mats are 60 x 60 cm and come in packs of 12. The current cost is £5.99 per pack (checked with both Boots and Tesco).

I definitely couldn't have done without them and it makes changing very quick and easy. When she was little I would need a new mat every 3-4 changes as she would inevitably mess on it but now that she's older I can go literally weeks without having to use a new one. Sometimes I need a new one as with use the old one sometimes starts to fluff a bit but that is the only ...

Advantages: quick and easy, light Disadvantages: expenisive, don't last as long as they say
When I registered with the pampers website I was sent some vouchers for nappies and also for a pack of care mats. The voucher entitled me to 50p off a pack of twelve care mats. The price of the care mats put me off a bit but the a mixture of the voucher and also the fact that pampers claim that they are reusable upto 100 changes made me buy them.

Advantages: a little protection Disadvantages: exepensive and rubbish for babies
I brought a packet of pampers care mats when I was booked in to the hospital to have my baby 6 weeks ago. The reason I got these was to protect my bed when I was bleeding after the birth.
The changing mats are square in shape and the top of the mat is slightly padded with diagonal shapes. the back of the mats have some blue writing saying pampers change mats place this side down and various coloured pitchers. The size of each mat is 60 x 60 cm.
... ...and says change mats underneath in white writing on an orange back round. There’s a pitcher of a woman changing a baby on a changing mat with yellow flowers in the back round. So it’s quite an eye catching packet. The back of the packet has some pitches showing some suggestions for use they are:
Nappy changing at home.
Sitting a toddler on the couch without a nappy.
Changing a nappy in the car.
Using the mats when you wind a baby.
A mat on the ...

Advantages: Soft; small to carry around Disadvantages: Quite thin; pricey
Pampers Change Mats are 60 x 60 cms in size. The side that is placed next to the surface is made from plastic and will, therefore, prevent any leaks from going through the mat. The side on which you place baby is soft and slightly padded. To be honest, I'm not sure if the mats would slide around or move, particularly if baby was wriggling / kicking.
The change mats are very thin. Personally, I see this as being both a good and a bad point. The advantage ... ...and are ideal for packing into baby's changing bag.
The disdavantage is that the mats would not give too much protection for baby when placing him / her onto a harder surface. The size of the mats are ideal for babies, particularly when they are young, although two mats would be needed when changing an older baby, as one mat would not be long enough. Luckily, my baby has not had any accidents on a change mat yet, so I have been able to re-use them. ...

Pamper's care mats - just what the doctor ordered! (despite their high cost)
Maybe I'm a poor parent, maybe I'm lazy, or maybe I'm not thinking enough about the environment....but I couldn't do without Pamper's Care mats. Not for me, you understand, for the children!
I am the (usually) proud father of two girls, Verity (4 1/2) and Annabelle (3). They are both (and have been for quite some time) potty trained, but night-time is a different story. ... ...'a big girl' and relies instead on remembering to get up by herself during the night.
As with most children going through this stage in their life, she hasn't perfected this as yet - resulting in a sad face inches from mine in the middle of the night telling me "Daddy, I've had an accident". As this is no major event, I don't want Verity to see it as such in any way, shape or form and so being able to whisk the care mat from its place on top of ...

What is the point of Pampers Care Mats? The only answer that I can find to that it to increase Pampers sales.
Launched on the market a year ago these items are quite expensively priced and the idea is that you use them as changing mats etc for your baby.
I have a baby but have never been tempted to buy these things. I use a terry nappy to lay on top of her plastic changing mat when we are at home and when we are out and about I have a small plastic ... ...which I lay a terry nappy. OK you have to wash the terry nappy but often you get a few changes out of them before they have to be washed and it is not then hard to put them in the washing machine. The initial cost of the terry nappies is very cheap, especially if you buy them from Index who seem to have the best deal. You could even use old towels if you did not want to buy Terrys. Either way these are much cheaper options than Care Mats even taking ...

Advantages: Protect the bed well. Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
Pampers Care Mats are rectangular sheets with absorbent padding all over them and a plastic back. I suppose they compare to an opened out toweling nappy really. They are produced by Pampers and the suggested uses include for changing your baby, putting down to stop mess on the floor and putting on the bed for bedwetting children. Other than the last point I cannot really see the use of them. However, they are worth getting if your child does indeed ... ...is not good!
With Pampers Care Mats you can put them over the top sheet and when your child does wet the bed all you have to do is change the child’s PJ’s and remove the Care Mat. They are quite expensive though at over £1 a sheet for the large size (which is needed for a standard size bed). They are thus probably more useful when you are away and staying in a hotel, in these circumstances they are well worth the money! ...

...a free sample of a Pampers Care Mat when my daughter (now 5 years old) was about a year old. I had no idea what to do with it, but I thought it might come in handy sometime so put it away with the other nappy-changing paraphanalia. Advantages: Many uses & convenient Disadvantages: Expensive
I like to try new products and thought I would give these a go. The care mats are quite a good size and have a soft top layer with a waterproof backing (with a teddy print all over). They are very lightweight and easy to add a couple to your babies changing bag as an alternative changing mat.
I initially used them to lay my baby on for some "nappy off" time happy in the knowledge that my carpets would not be soiled in the event of any accidents! ... ...the care mats would save on that little bit of extra washing as they are disposable. It was when I began potty training my toddler I decided to use them to line her car seat with one in case of any accidents whilst travelling. They worked fairly well for this and I could just keep a pack in the car to instantly replace any wet ones.
I also use one in her bed when we stay away at friends houses as it saves me taking her mattress protector off her ...

Advantages: protects the mattress Disadvantages: expensive, not available everywhere
My son has special needs, and still wears nappies at age 10. Sometimes there's an 'overflow' during the night, and the bed mats are wonderful at protecting the mattress (from smells as well as from damp). It's especially useful in the winter or wet weather when it would be almost impossible to get the mattress dried and aired for next bedtime. Okay, they're not especially environmentally friendly and they are expensive, but I have so many other issues ...
