...I began to use the pampers change mats and they were fantastic - they really saved my carpet!
They basically have a plastic type layer on the bottom which is lilac and has printed teddies on, the top layer is quilted in a diamond pattern - this is what absorbs the wet and the plastic layer is what stops it going through to anything underneath the mat.
Other uses for them include - protecting fabrics after giving birth(dont need to go into too much ...
