    The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 is a great little 6M camera full of handy features with an optical zoom of 3x with a possible 4.1x. It has a very large clear LCD display so you can share your photos with your friends without printing off. There is a great selection of preset scene modes e.g. Portrait Sports Food Night Scenery Night Portrait Baby Soft skin Candlelight Fireworks Party Snow St arry Sky Self Portrait There is also a macro mode for closeups and a timer for those timed shots.     I was looking for a small point and shoot camera mainly to take pictures of the kids. I looked for about 6 months, checking various reviews and eventually decided on this one. The price has recently come down. For a simple, small camera this is great. Takes movie clips with sound for as much space as on the SD memory card. Battery life is very good. Took it on holiday for a week and never ran out. Spare batteries are cheap on ebay.
