Advantages: Excellent picture quality, aesthetically beautiful. Disadvantages: May be a bit expensive for some.
...Aesthetically the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 is beautiful, a lovely looking camera and one of the best looking of its kind in fact that I have ever seen. It's all black appearance was greatly alluring for me, and was the reason I looked into the camera further and eventually decided to buy it. For many a year I had wanted to purchase a Nikon SLR, I have long been an admirer of their D40 model and will no doubt one day buy this dream camera of mine, ... ...be it. Since purchasing this Panasonic Lumix camera however I have found myself taking far more care over my photos and adjusting settings in order to take the best photographs possible. It's not difficult to do, and the camera does in fact have many features to take full advantage of.
'''- Picture Quality -'''
As my first digital SLR style camera, I have nothing really to compare the quality of my prints to. I have however looked at pictures taken ...

Advantages: Can be fully automatic or manual, produces great images! Disadvantages: Video capture not great, could have gone a little further with the manual controls!
...turned out to be. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18EB-K is not a DSLR camera although it might look like one but it is far more advanced than an average point and shoot digital camera. This type of camera is known as a bridge camera because that's exactly what it is doing, bridging the gap between point and shoot and DSLR.
DSLR cameras are completely controlled by the photographer whereas a point and shoot digital camera will have loads of pre-set settings ... ...used to.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18EB-K comes with MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer which is great for taking shots without a tripod as it eliminates almost all blur that may occur from an unsteady hand. It is an 8.1 megapixel camera with an 18x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and unique Intelligent Auto Mode. The perfect choice for any photographer with varied photographic needs. Important specifications

Advantages: produces good images Disadvantages: manual controls dilemma at times.
...amazed when I saw a Panasonic photo camera. Well Sony, Kodak, Konica and canon have made products like Panasonic and others dumb and less known.
I have never come across a Panasonic camera rather I have been hearing about it and I knew that it does exist but the problem was that I never bothered to buy or use until the weekend travel.
I never had this but I got access to this from a friend that gave me the hospitality. This is not a DSLR camera ... ...speed camera.
The Panasonic lumix DMC-FZ18EB-K comes with optical image sterilizer, which helps to take snaps without a tripod because it can eliminate errors from a novice.
The camera is cheaper to compare to the great DSLR cameras. I have found out some thing about this particular type of camera and that is the ease of use. It is very easy to use and it is very good for a novice. I have used the DSLR camera and it is harder to use. In the DSLR ...

Advantages: Superb lens, packed with features and looks cool Disadvantages: A bit complicated to navigate at first. Doesn't fit in your pocket.
...to mention but trust me, Panasonic have everything covered from a candlelit dinner to a fireworks display! Handy if you are going to be taking several pictures in the same location but to be honest I have never used any of these modes nor the custom presets which you can set up yourself. The standard Ai mode is so good it detects faces, landscapes, backlighting and sets the appropriate exposure.
If you've upgraded from an old SLR you'll probably ... ...both do exactly what it says on the tin and are great for classic photography. There is also a Manual mode in which you can set everything yourself including manual focus. The 2.5" LCD makes it easy to frame and review your shots.
This camera has too many features to describe in a short review so perhaps it's easier to tell you what it lacks. Maybe there are just too many features, it can be difficult to navigate at times and you can spend ages ...

Advantages: Large zoom, small size, extensive ISO rating and Leica lens Disadvantages: No remote shutter release, facility, no auxiliary flash shoe, a little fragile.
...about say absolutely surprising. Panasonic have produced one of the longest digital lenses on the market yet they do not fit a remote shutter release facility on the FZ18; incredible! Just which of the designers made this omission? To use your long lens and tripod you have to make do with a Universal shutter release adapter Velcroed round the camera body. This in turn causes all sorts of problems when trying to access the controls. Panasonic - this ... ...same problem as all the Panasonic range in that the zoom is NOT available once the shutter is pressed. This means that you have to take the software-stitching route to make any form of useable video. However, given that this is primarily intended to be a still camera most of can live with that limitation.
There are far more facilities on this camera than can be covered by this review and I have tried to cover the basics, both good and bad.

Panasonic is not a brand normally associated with digital photography. I have lots of time for their televisions and telephones but of the few digital cameras I have seen they tend to be from the lower end of the market in terms of picture quality and colour reproduction, in my opinion the 2 crucial features of a camera. I will be basing my experience on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 digital camera that we have had in store now for 4 days (it was ... ...other digital camera programs the Panasonic software does not and doesn't slow computer speed down one jot.
There is the red eye removal that comes with most camera software but also a distortion piece, the option to smear sections of photographs and a blurring for backgrounds to bring out objects the foreground making that little bit crisper and clearer without having to go out and take an other shot. This distortion is now pretty standard across ...

Advantages: 18x optical zoom, LEICA Lens, intelligent auto mode, good grip, battery life. Disadvantages: image noise at high ISO , scratchable, no zoom in video
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 provides a valuable insight into professional photography without being too expensive for the average user. Moreover, its ease of use could turn anybody into a good photographer without much sweating.
I have owned this camera for about 2 months now and I can say I'm deeply satisfied by its performances. I've owned some cameras before, but none of them were even close to this one. One particular strength of this camera ... ...at distances you couldn't even think before.
Despite its qualities, the camera is pretty poor at shooting with high ISO speeds and the pictures come out pretty noisy. But my opinion is that this is the perfect camera for the amateurs who want to turn pro (because of it's SLR design and improved performances), and also for the users who want to take quality photos. ...

Advantages: very good long range photos Disadvantages: bit less megapixels
Panasonic's Lumix FZ18 is a compact 'super zoom' camera having a host of excellent desirable features. Quick review of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18
This was a considered purchase for a 'superzoom' compact having decided not to go for a DSLR. The available competition was the Olympus SP-560 and the Fuji S8000 with an 18x zoom. Specs and prices are very similar but the deciding factor for me was the bespoke rechargeable Lithium Iron battery, easily available and cheap good for approx 400 shots and the outstanding Leica lens.
The camera is an absolute delight, stylish, well made, very light and an excellent performer. I have yet to find a problem with results easily living up to expectations.
The only downside compared to a DSLR is the smaller sensor which leads to noise in images at higher ISO settings. This has not yet been a problem however. ...

Very good camera for a good start in photography. Very versatile product, good to learn and find your own path in photography. Pros: full manual control to learn and achieve results you want and great Intelligent auto mode for snapshots on a trip with family. Versatile and really good lens, fast and easy in use. Cons: small sensor generates high noise on ISOs 400 and more, better stick to ISO 100, 200. ...

Quick review of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18
Well, the news is good. This camera is definitely a step up from the earlier models, with real improvements in almost every area. It's what I was hoping for.
The lens, since it's probably the most interesting feature of the camera. The lens features an 18X optical zoom range. In 35mm equivalent, that would be 28mm to 504mm. I was looking forward to the wide angle part, as 28mm is a good step from most cameras of this type. In fact, it's the first of the Panasonic "superzoom" cameras to offer anything wider than about 35mm at the widest angle. ...

Advantages: Ease of use, iA idiot mode. Disadvantages: Action shots could be slightly better.
I've had this camera a couple of months, overall quality is much better than expected. Photos taken of still subjects can be exceptionable good, action shots let it down a bit. I opted for the FZ18 as I do alot of walking and this camera is much better suited than lugging a DSLR about. Pros: Cheaper than a basic DSLR, images can be upto DSLR quality, good zoom, image stabilisation, compact (compared to DSLR), robust, iA mode (can be used as a point ...
