Advantages: Easy to use, small semi-professional cam Disadvantages: No wide angle, not good in low light conditions
The semi professional Panasonic NV MX500 is an easy to use digital videocam. In daylight the picture quality is excellent, there is a backlight function and a optical image stabilizer. The LDC screen is big. For nightshots or indoors where light is limited the picture quality decreases significantly, much poorer than the analog videocam I had before. This is a disappointing feature on an expensive videocamera like this.
Sometimes I find that the ... ...stop recording button. This has given me a lot of clips that end with the movement when I put down the camera after filming a shot. This is also worse than the analog camera I had before.
The optical zoom is 10x, which feels a bit too little. Another disadvantage is that the widest angle is very narrow, so when trying to do "interview style" shots you end up too far away from the person filmed to avoid just having their nose on the film.
