Advantages: Good value, good image quality Disadvantages: Sound quality is probably the major disappointment here, not a true 1080p screen
...would have been nice. Newer panasonic models have an SD card slot - you can use this to view photos from your digital camera on the tv, but only if you use SD cards in the camera note, which is not the case for many of us.
PICTURE QUALITY: Excellent - this is why I love Panasonic. Having asked many professionals before purchasing the general consensus is that for 42" and above in size - to still go for plasma over LCD technology and that Panasonic ... ...digital TV (not HD). This panasonic does a very good job of this (but I still think the images still look poorer than they did on my old tube TV (as I am sure many will agree)). Even VHS (video casettes) was watcheable.
Specifications wize, its an HD ready but I was almost put off by the fact that it isnt what the industry is calling 'Full HD' or '1080p'. I would say to any thinking the same that you should not let this bother you unless you plan ...

Advantages: Size, picture quality, quite stylish Disadvantages: None found
...beautiful ,but the designers at Panasonic have done their best and the TH 42 PX 70 is bevel edged, with black framing of the screen so it does manage to look reasonably elegant.
The main feature is of course the screen. In my opinion, this size fits well into a living room. It is a bit of a focal point, but does not dominate the room too much.
The resolution is excellent. The picture is clear and detailed (737280 pixels), with good colour balance. ... ...in the sticks). The picture also looks natural and less harsh than on some TVs that I have seen. The flat screen reduces reflection and as it does not curve at the edges, it provides you with less distortion.
The TV has 2 scart connections to allow connection to DVD, games players etc. I have played a couple of games, connected to the TV and even fairly basic graphics looked really good.
Sound quality is good, clear and without any background odd ...

Advantages: Stylish, excellent picture and very good price Disadvantages: Digital sources are better viewed through matching DVD recorder
...especially when paired with the panasonic stand.
After considering whether to but LCD or Plasma went for plasma after seeing how unwatchable a water skier was on LCD. the plasma screens where so much smoother an panasonic is a leader in its field.
The TV comes with 2 HDMI sockets, 2 Scarts and a composite input which is pretty good. It doesn't have the SD slot of the next model up but no huge loss but does have the Viera link to panasonic DVD recorders ... ...better viewed from a matching panasonic DVD recorder with 1080p upscaling rather than the upscaling from the internal circuits.
Panasonic claim a 60,000 hour lifespan for this model whcih is 30+ years of viewing and have incorporated new technology to avoid any potential screen burn which was a problem for earlier generation plasmas. However, if you run in the TV by watching with the contrast down for the first 100 hours, the longevity will be much ...

Advantages: Excellent Picture Quality and Value Disadvantages: Only 1 HDMI autoswitches.
I have had this TV for six months now and am extremely happy with it. Having owned a couple of 32" Toshiba LCD screens before I bought this I wanted to steer very clear of LCD. I have found that the picture quality is superb, especially notable on standard definition sources. This is where all my previous flat panels have fallen down. I find that a high percentage of SD sources are as good as quality CRT screens.
I use the screen with Sky HD, PS3 ... ...excellent on SD and outstanding once you enter the realms of HD.
There are two features about this TV that irritate me, the first is that only one of the HDMI sockets is auto switching, the second is that you need to hold the power button on te remote down for about 3 seconds to put the tv into standby! ...

...SO IF YOU HAVE OTHER PANASONIC PRODUCTS YOU CAN OPERATE ON THE SAME REMOTE!! LOOKS GOOD HAVING GONE BACK TO BLACK.. ALSO VERY SIMPLE TO INSTALL. IT HAS A V REAL 2 ENGINE WHICH MEANS THE PICTURE PRO CESSING IS FANTASTIC. EVEN WHEN WATCHING A OLD FILM VIA HD DVD WAS SUPERB PICTURE QUALITY. AND THERE COMES SOME CONCERN WHEN BUYING A 42 INCH TV THAT IT MIGHT BE TOO LARGE FOR A SMALL ROOM BUT I RECOMMEND GETTING THIS PRODUCT EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE A SMALL ...
