Peace At Last, however is 'unisex' in the sense that it is enjoyed by the girls and boys I read it to.

The Story
*********************************************************************
It begins at bedtime. Mr & Mrs Bear along with Baby Bear all go up to bed. Mrs Bear went straight to sleep (if only I was like that!) but Mr Bear couldn't sleep and found ... ...the living room for some peace and quiet.
But the tick-tock of the cuckoo clock irritates him so he tries the kitchen, where guess what, there's a dripping tap and the hum of the fridge.
The garden is no better because of the different sounds of the animals.
The car is cold and uncomfortable but he was so tired he just begins to drift off to sleep when the sun begins to come up and the birds start their early morning call.
So exasperated he goes ...

Advantages: Use of repetition, well illustrated, strong family feel. Disadvantages: Not a particularly strong moral.
The bear family are tired and decide to go to bed. Mr Bear cannot sleep. It does not help when Mrs Bear starts snoring, he goes to Baby Bear's room and he is not asleep either. He is playing aeroplane noises in bed. Mr Bear goes from room to room trying to find somewhere quiet to sleep. Will he ever get any rest?
"Peace at Last" by Jill Murphy is a simplistically told story of one poor bears futile attempts to get a decent nights rest. As we follow ... ...is forced to endure a variety of sounds from snoring to dripping taps. Jill Murphy has written a repetitive tale that will be popular with all pre-schoolers as it certainly is with my three year old. Murphy's repetitive language are coupled with pages that slowly increase in length, indicating the increasing frustrations of Mr Bear. This allows my three-year-old to become easily hooked in the early, less descriptive pages and she is aware of Mr Bear's ...

Peace at Last' is a lovely picture book written and illustrated by Jill Murphy. It tells the story of a family of bears and what happened one night when Mr Bear found it difficult to sleep!
It all starts well enough for Mr Bear - all the family are tired and all go up to bed. Mr and Mrs Bear get into bed together and we are treated to a lovely picture of the two bears - one fast asleep and the other wide awake! Why, you might ask, can't Mr Bear ... ...VERY LOUDLY! I quite like this role reversal as normally, or so it is in my house, the man who keeps the woman awake! Or is that just me?
Anyway, back to the story...Mr Bear gets very fed up and says 'I can't stand THIS' and up he gets to go and found somewhere quiet to sleep. However, as you can probably imagine, nothing is that straightforward. Everywhere he goes - Little Bear's room, the kitchen, the living room, the garden - there is always ...

...by Jill Murphy. Peace at Last is written and illustrated by Jill Murphy, it is a book that is great for bedtime reading but also suitable at other times, we read the story at various times over the week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The basic plot surrounds poor Daddy Bear and his inability to get to sleep, it all starts with Mummy Bear’s snoring and goes through the whole house in Daddy Bear’s quest for a good night’s sleep, we are in Baby Bear’s room, ... ...poor daddy can find no peace. We can all sympathise with Daddy Bear and all have had nights when it just seems impossible to get over to sleep and where every little noise seems even louder and very annoying. The book is set at night and introduces us to lots of familiar areas but from the perspective of the night time scene, dark, quiet but also active and noisy. There is nothing scary in the book, indeed it is a good way to discuss with your child ...

Books shouldn’t just be for bedtimes. Though I had bedtime stories for many years (erm, about 10. And then some more when I was doing A Levels. Don’t ask.), we also had morning story time and lunchtime story time and afternoon story time in our house. Because books are important, but more importantly, because books are fun. Though this book is set at night, and covers sleeping and related topics, it’s an any-time-of-day book.
After ... ...down supper time, Mr and Mrs Bear and their only child Baby Bear are tucked up in bed, trying to get some sleep. Mrs Bear dozes off the second her head touches the pillow, but her incessant snoring keeps Mr Bear awake much to his dismay (and mine, since this lends absolutely no support to my “ladies *don’t* snore” stance). He gets up and heads for Baby Bear’s room, but the little one is wide awake and pretending to be a noisy ...

At first glance, it has a chocolate brown border with a gorgeous illustration of two happy bears ... ...of the book has a further illustration of a bear in his green striped pyjamas, with a pillow pulled over his head!
The story is basically about three bears. Mrs.Bear, baby bear and the main character being Mr.Bear. (No not those three bears, with Goldilocks!)
The main theme is that poor Mr. Bear cannot get to sleep at bed time, he has far too many distractions to cope with.
As we turn the pages we learn that it is due to the noises made from his ...

Jill Murphy writes some very good children’s books and ‘Peace at last’ was one that I forced my parents to read to me over and over again when I was younger. The book is published by Macmillan Children’s Books and the story has been around since 1980! Jill Murphy has also done the illustrations, which are quite detailed but really help tell the story. Advantages: Easy to follow story with lots of sounds and noises to listen too Disadvantages: Children wish it to be read over and over
Peace at Last by Jill Murphy was one of the first books I came across when I started working with Children.
It introduces us to The Bear Family. They are just like humans, with their comfortable home and clothes. Mr Bear was tired, Mrs Bear was tired and Baby Bear was tired. So they did what all tired people do....... they went upstairs to bed. Baby Bear goes into his bedroom, while Mr and Mrs Bear go into their bedroom. Mrs Bear falls asleep and ... ...Mr Bear can't seem to fall asleep and we follow him about as he tries to find somewhere to get comfy and fall asleep. The book is simple and flows easily. Just like all her other works, Jill Murphy does her own illustrations and these are as detailed as ever. We often talk about what is going on in the pictures while we go through the story. In the story Mr Bear hears all the noises such as the leaky tap and the cuckoo clock. These are great for ...

Oh No, I can't stand this. Well actually yes I can very much. I absolutely love this book.
My mum bought this for my som when he was just a year old (He is now 4). It soon became a firm family favourite in our household. It even prompted him to take his first tentative steps when it was featured on BBC's Storytime - he walked straight to the television pointing at Mr Bear!
A beautifully written and illustrated book. On the cover are Mrs Bear (complete ... ...his eyes) in bed asleep.
Basically it's the end of the day. Mr Bear is reading his newspaper. Mrs Bear is busy knitting and Baby Bear is in his pyjamas reading a book.
Everyone is tired, after taking empty cocoa cups to the kitchen and picking up dirty clothes from the floor, they all go to bed.
Like most mums, Mrs Bear falls asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow, unfortunately for Mr Bear she snores loudly too!
This story takes you through ...

Peace at last is a young childrens book written by Jill Murphy. It was first published in 1980 so some of you might even remember it from your childhood. It is such a popular story that it is still around today and is on quite a rew 'recommended reading' lists for children. We actually received this book in a Bookstart pack which is an educational pack that is issued to children at 8months, 18months and 3 years to help get them interested in reading. ... ...Mrs Bear and Baby Bear as they settle down to bed one night.
