Advantages: Makes for a happy dog and a happier owner, Disadvantages: Slightly expensive but worth every penny
...five years ago, I discovered Pedigree Dentastix and decided they were worth a try. Looking at the ingredients of these ( cereals, derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals,, zinc sulphate and EU permitted preservatives and colourants), I am hard pressed to understand how they work. The claim is that each stick “ has a unique X shape and, when fed daily, it’s clinically proven to help reduce tartar build up by 80%” … thus helping “ to keep your dog’s ... ...alternate these daily with the Pedigree Joint Care Stix (a review of this product, to follow along with a further saga of Woody’s woes once Ciao have added it). In any case it’s a price worth paying when one considers the possible alternative …. expensive dental treatment. Even 8 years ago the teeth extraction and antibiotic treatment cost me over £300.
The Pedigree website does not actually claim that these are an alternative to brushing, although ...

Advantages: My dog loves them, dentist approval of the results Disadvantages: None that I can think of
Created by Pedigree, these are the best thing I have found that keep your doggy's nashers clean and healthy, and also helps with the doggy breath somewhat too.
The Stix themselves are a chewy treat which cleans your dogs teeth as they chew, I think inside they have a rough texture, but not too rough to cause any damage. The chews have a cross pattern which runs the length of the chew, ensuring that your dog chews it to the best of its abilities.
... ...both flavours are provided in the pack to give your dog some variety.
The packs are supplied as a pack of 7, for one weeks supply, or a pack of 28. I prefer to buy the pack of 28, as it works out a little cheaper, and sometimes my local supermarket sells out so I buy a new pack mid way through.
The pack of 7 should come in somewhere between £1.50, and £2, with the 28 pack being somewhere between £5 and £6.
Their are four different packs available, ...

My dog, Massey, would like you all to know about the wonders of Pedigree's Denta Stix.........
These wonderful treats come in packs of 7, one for every day of the week or in boxes of multipacks. They are quite expensive around £6 for a box of 28 but well worth the spends......
The packet/box is a distinctive yellow colour which my dog recognises straight away whatever the time fo day it gets taken out of the cupboard!
The stix themselves come ... ...and long and feel quite hard but they are'nt really.
These stix help prevent plaque and tartar build up on the teeth as well as having added flouride in them.
They come in several different sizes from small dog up to large dog,
Masseys has one of these every day, at different times and sometimes just for something to play with when i'm at work. I have been known to hide them around the house for him to find.....

The 'X' shape cleans the teeth as the dog chews, the treats don't last my dogs very long, a couple of mouthfuls and thats about it. A 7 pack of large Denta Stix's are £2.28 and a box of 28 is £7.98. Its been a year since I started giving them and they have been fed almost everyday. Advantages: Dog loves 'em Disadvantages: Runny yellow poo
I bought these for my dog after seeing the marketting which claimed that they were excellent for dog's teeth and therefore help with pongy breath.
My dog loves them.
Unfortunately, she chomps them straight down, they hardly touch the sides and there is definately no benefit to her teeth. As a consequence, they also do nothing for her breath.
I suppose some people might choose to use them as training treats anyway, but they also have quite a strong ...

Quick review of Pedigree Denta Stix
As you may know, all "Pedigree" products are manufactured by "Mars" confectionary corporation. Despite fluffy comments on their website indicating their concern for the welfare of dogs, it has now been revealed that they finance and direct a totally unnecessary testing program in which animals are subjected to agonising suffering in grisly experiments. More details of Mars' activities in these areas are readily available on the web from such welfare organisations as PETA. Regardless of the "quality" of this product, all purchasers are funding these activities. ...
