Advantages: image quality, shake reduction, backwards lens compatibilty Disadvantages: DSLR's are still too big
REVIEW OF PENTAX K100D DIGITAL SLR
BACKGROUND
I've owned SLR's for 30 years starting with screw mount lenses and moving to Pentax K mount. In the last 5 years I became interested in digital photography owning a Canon A200 and Konica Minolta Dimage Z3. We've also got 5 other digital compacts in the household including new Samsung and Fuji 6MP models.
The KM Z3 is a great camera with a 12 times optical zoom and anti shake sensor but I was a little ... ...tendency to slightly over expose
Pentax K100D - Pleasant and well saturated but a tendency to slightly underexpose, very low noise. Surprisingly sharp for a 6MP camera and much sharper than the *ist models. Olympus E500 -softer images than the Pentax and Nikon which are 6MP
Olympus E400 - No better than the Pentax so to me not worth the very high premium. Just shows that the number of megapixels is only part of the story.
Sony Alpha - Very good ...

Advantages: Nice Build. Quick and easy menus/scene modes. Good quality images. Disadvantages: Deleting images can be a tiring task.
...far too lightweight, and the Pentax K100D was that extra bit heavier, which I found far better to use; especially when adding bigger lenses.
When I opened the box, I got the camera started straight away. The menu's were simple enough to get used to, and within moments, I felt like I'd been using it for months. The FN button, allows you to quickly change the ISO, white balance, drive mode and flash settings. Which is very useful when you're on the ... ...standard 18-55mm lens, as well as a Sigma 70-300mm Macro lens. More accessories are becoming available for these DSLR's as Pentax builds popularity. I got my Pentax K100D about 9 months ago, and I'm happy to say that I won't be buying another camera for a long time. ...

Quick review of Pentax K100D
Having been a keen amateur photographer and clubman for over 30 years I have NO hesitation in recommending this camera. The quality of the pictures it produces is, in my opinion, second to none and at the price cannot be bettered.
One of the biggest advantages it has over its rivals is the Shake Reduction system that is built into the body of the camera. Hence it works on ANY lens fitted, not just a very expensive special shake reducing lens as is the case with many of its compeitors. It also accepts all the old Pentax K fit lenses (although not all will give full facilities) and hence anyone with lenses that have been collected for use with their 35mm outfits can continue to use these expensive items.
The quality of the standard lens as supplied with the lens cannot be bettered.
All in all, a superb camera. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a camera that will enable him/her to go beyond the limitations of a compact whether they are just beginning to develop (pun intended) an interest in serious photography are are experienced photographer. ...
Advantages: Excellent Image Quality, Good shake reduction, Price, Ergonomics, Beginner friendly, Backwards compatibility Disadvantages: Slower performance than other similar cameras
I've had this for just over half a year and loved every moment of it. Be aware as with any other SLR you will need a fair bit of money put aside for more lenses and accessories once the addiction starts kicking in.
Overview:
As well as being aimed at those wanting to move up into the dSLR market, the k100d is suited for those seeking slightly better ISO performance or a smaller body at an affordable price.
Features:
As well as the standard set ... ...offers multi-exposure bracketing, which is ideal if you intend to delve into HDR photography. I do find the menu system to be slight counter-intuitive but its possible to stay away from the menus most of the time, in normal use, unless you need to change ISO specifically. Image Quality:
Don't be put off by the 6 megapixel sensor as it offers better low light performance than other higher megapixel sensor and can still be enlarged easily to A4 size ...

Advantages: EASY TO USE, BRILLIANT IMAGES Disadvantages: NO SELF CLEANING
...good as with my old Pentax SLR film camera. The anti shake works so well that I have to pull myself up when using other cameras without it - it has made me a bit careless!
The one drawback for me with this camera is that bits of dust have got in somehow, and I cannot clean them away, so I now have to retouch them out of each picture. If only it had a self-cleaning system as some of the more recent cameras do. ...

Quick review of Pentax K100D
I have bought the K100D 4 weeks ago, after a few hundred pictures taken, I can say that the Shake Reduction works very well, the Kit lens is very good for a kit lens, the camera has a ewll worked case and the standard batteries are easy to replace in case the rechargables are emtpy. Only the default colouring of the pictures is sometimes a bit to colourful. ...

Quick review of Pentax K100D
A great value, this camera uses standard AA batteries, has shake reduction, a bright LCD screen and viewfinder, well laid out controls, a great feature set for the money, and a good built-in flash. The kicker for this model, is that ANY K-mount lens ever made by Pentax will work in this camera, albeit with limitations, depending on the lens. Many non-Pentax K-mount lenses also work without modification. I have had this camera for almost a year now, and I am quite happy with it. It replaces my K-1000, a workhorse which has been with me for about 20 years. I can still use my old lenses in manual mode, which is a godsend. ...
