Advantages: Some great features, user-friendly Disadvantages: Can only use AA Alkaline batteries
...Internet, I came across the Pentax Optio E30. It seemed to fit the bill well in terms of price (just under £100) and had many of the features that I was looking for, such as video recording with sound. I ordered the camera through Tesco Direct because I had a £5 money off coupon to use, and received the camera in the post a couple of days later.

This camera is the perfect choice for anyone who wants a cheap holiday camera to replace the endless buying of disposable cameras (like me). This camera is cheap at only around £60 but don't let the price fool you because the whopping 7.1 megapixels is huge for a camera of this price. The large range of preset settings (eg. landscape mode, portrait mode, night mode, etc...) is useful for quickly selecting a mode when quick snapping is required. This ... ...impossible to change the indervidual settings (eg shutter speed etc...) but this is not important because this camera was never inteneded for professionals. This camera, I think, was made for the casual tourist who wants to take the odd photo to remember his holiday by and does away with disposable cameras and their developing costs. This is an excellent little camera for a bargain price.
Extremely easy to use with a wide range of presets, a decent auto focus system and a reasonable lens.
Unlike a lot of compact cameras you do get some options that are usually only available on 'SLR Style' cameras. Such as differing ISO ratings, shutter speeds and aperture sizes.
Although the latter aren't user controllable it does mean the camera will work in all conditions.
The ISO rating ... ...first you think it's an excellent feature. But quickly realise that unless you leave it locked on ISO80 the picture quality rapidly decays the higher the ISO rating gets.
However, being able to use different modes for photos and a macro function that works well means you can get some fantastic shots and use differing depths of field that you could typically only do on much more expensive cameras.
