Advantages: Small, so you can take it anywhere, but packed with great features! Disadvantages: Can be a bit fiddly to use
I spent a long time researching cameras before I chose this one, and I have to say, all of my research paid off!
The very best thig about this camera is its size! It is so small that it fits easily into even my tiniest handbag (or my boyfriends pocket!). This means that I have it with me for all those 'I wish I had a camera with me' moments.
Despite its size, it does everything I think I could ever want a camera to do. The standard of photos is ... ...not tell it is digital! The video feature is a lot of fun, as you can take full video with sound. The quality is not great, but then it is only a camara. My family particularly love the videos of the kids, which I have put on CD for them to keep forever. We recently went on holiday to Gambia and got some brilliant wildlife photos using the zoom feature. The camera also has settings for taking pictures of very small things and of text, which is particularly ...

Advantages: Compact yet powerful. Lots of features to play with. Disadvantages: Battery hungry, cumbersome manual operation, limited f range.
...when I saw a shop-worn Pentax Optio S5i offered at a knockdown price I thought I'd give digital a go.
It's very good, it really is! It didn't take me long to get started and then a couple of sessions with the very good handbook gave me a fair grasp of its capabilities.
Being small the S5i has the obvious advantage of portability but the unfortunate disadvantage in my case, that the act of pressing of the shutter button tilts the camera by a couple ... ...saving me editing hassle later.
There's lots of modes to choose from. Athough it is not clear exactly how these settings differ from oneanother they do a good enough job. I still have not found how to take a picture such as a bee on a flower in focus with the fore/background flowers out of focus, ie wide aperture/fast speed.
Only about 40 photogs between battery charges is a bit of a disappointment but then it is a very small battery. It's a shame ...

Advantages: very small (playing card size) Disadvantages: gets easily confused by non-contrasting colours.
This is a nice little camera, LCD is slightly on the small side (compared to today's standards, i.e. its about 1.5"). Colours have a nice saturated look to them. However I have had to add more saturation when using the flash, as the flash is small & the light doesn't encompass much past the object it is photographing. However this kind of adds a nice frontal focus feel; it cuts out a lot of the background distraction! ;-)
Power up/down time is not ... ...good, though it ges easily confused by non-contrasting colours - your best bet it to either put a small high contrast item infront of your desired focus point say like a pencil end..then it should pick that up easier, or you can to a certain extent use the manul focus.
Oh yes, it has a little manual focus ability..which has help some however the range isn't fantastically large (it maximum 35mm equiv' is 17.4mm! Other image settings range from aquariam, ...

Advantages: Size, ease of use, picture quality, docking station for recharging Disadvantages: Poor night scenes, menu features too complex for a beginner, poor video quality
I bought this camera when I moved to Australia last year. I am a photographic novice and wanted a compact point and shoot camera to record my Oz experience.
The camera's size is a big plus. It will fit into most pockets easily but ensure that you buy a decent case to avoid scratching the lcd. I chose a Lowepro case which is extremely well padded (I've dropped the camera twice but it was not damaged at all).
If you use the 'quick' button the camera ... ...is excellent. There are a number of different photo modes available (landscape, flowers, surf & snow etc.) but I haven't really experimented with these.
PC connection and picture downloading is easy (even for a beginner like me) although the usb connection is a bit fiddly due to the camera's small size.
The major downside of this camera is shooting pictures at night. I have tried to use the 'night scene mode' for shooting pictures of dark scenes ...

Advantages: It has everything you could want and more and it's so easy to use Disadvantages: Very small for big hands
A fantastic small camera with every feature you could imagine. The price is very reasonable and many features are included in cameras costing twice as much. It is very easy to ue and has pre-set settings for any type of photo you wish to take, including black and white and sunsets. Make sure you charge the battery in the cradle supplied for a good 5/6 hours before using.
The software provided is easy to use and set up on your PC as long as you have ...

Advantages: Price and the fantastic size Disadvantages: Haven't found any yet
Excellent range of features including night shots, black and white, other colour effects, soft focus, 3-D etc. Probably my favourite feature of all is the posterisation - this turns your photo into a pop art picture reminiscent of Andy Warhols picture of Marilyn Munro, excellent for images of people.
You will need a large memory card for this, I have a 512mB and can get up to 45 mins of video on it..
Great battery life, just took my camera on holiday ...

Advantages: Usability, Docking station Disadvantages: None
This is a great compact camera and I have taken great quality pictures around the world with this camera. Like all compacts it is not suitable for taking distance pictures at night time (There is no manual setting to set the exposure and shutter speed). The night time setting on the camera is purely to turn the flash on and operate in automatic. This problem can be easily rectified however by purchasing a small tripod.
The battery life is fantastic ... ...massive advantage whilst travelling.
There is a underwater casing availble for this camera so it could potentially be used for diving.
SD memory is now also available in massive sizes at cheap prices enabling many pictures to be taken on one trip without having to download the images to CD. ...

Advantages: Small, light weight, 5 megapixels. Disadvantages: Has become blurry on one side, too many functions
I have been using this camera since early 2005 and its lasted among newer and flashier models. Because of its 5 megapixels it takes fantastic pictures, which can be printed up to A3 in size. One disadvantage has become apparent: When developing the pictures and even when viewed on screen I have noticed that the right hand side of my pictures, taken in focus, are blurred. This is something that has happened over time and has nothing to do with my ...

Advantages: Cost and quality Disadvantages: Not for people with bigger hands
a great little camera this, the only problem that I (having small fingers) have discovered is the inability to manually set shutter speed, making it difficult to take 'arty' pictures of water etc. The durability is suprising, mine has been in my pocket through some a whole range of experiences, more than one of which has been sub zero, and although it can be reluctant to wake up at such temperatures it has never failed me.
The battery charge is ... ...if you're downloading your pictures the chances are that you'll have somewhere to charge the battery. If not replacement batteries are cheap and easy to come by from most major camera shops.
The optical zoom is larger than anyone can hold with their hands, so unless you have a tripod you will not need more.
On the highest resolution the pictures can be blown up to bigger than a computer screen without becoming pixelated.
I fully recommend this ...
