Advantages: Good for beginners and intermediate model ship builders Disadvantages: Could benefit from a few more colour photographs
...I wished to build an period wooden ship. (The wife had seen some for sale, but I thought, I can do better then that - hmm, little did I know!)
So after extensive research on the net I picked a relatively simple model to do. Now having no experience at all on building model ships I was relying solely on the instructions to tell me what to do. And while they did a good enough job most of the time, there where certain elements that could have done ... ...can be applied to any Period Model Ship.
There is a colour section showing finished examples of model ships, but the rest of the photos are in black and white. In fact that would be my only critisism of the book, some more colour photographs would be nice.
I would say that this book is an essential purchase for anyone looking to build a period model ship or for someone who has just started on this hobby. I would imagine that parts of the book would ...

Advantages: Very usefull to someone totally new to the hobby Disadvantages: poor photos, and poor content for even second time users
...a book and a good book for anyone thinking of giving this hobby a try but of very limited use to anyone who has made even one kit before. If the title had been 'A beginers guide to period ship kit building' I would have given it much higher marks ...
