Sertainly one of King's best!

Advantages: Excellent storyline and characters, nice setting, more readable than the majority of King's books, chilling finale
Disadvantages: Doesn't create tension or scares until the second half of the story, won't convert those who generally dislike King's writing style

...villains. And finally, we have Pet Sematary, which was something of a return to common ground for the author – another example of the spooky, supernatural-thriller. But could Stephen King continue his run of good form? So it was published back in 1988 but is actually set eight years previous to this date. The story focuses on thirty-five year-old Louis Creed, as well as his wife Rachel, five year-old daughter Ellie and baby son Gage. Things start ...
...down the years – a pet cemetery, or ‘Sematary’ as the children had spelt it. He explains to young Ellie that there is no harm in going up to the graveyard, provided she doesn’t stray off the path and into the woods beyond. But that’s okay; deadfall blocks the route forward anyhow… And so the scene is set, with the Creed family settling rather nicely into their new Ludlow lifestyle. A few weeks pass and Louis takes up his new role as a medical Doctor ...

This is not your average Cemetary.....

Advantages: A gripping read
Disadvantages: Not as strong as other novels by Stephen King

...written by Stephen King is Pet Sematray. This was one of his earlier books however it has not dated. I read it just a couple of days ago, and the storyline was as original and gripping of one of the 21st Century. Pet Sematary was published in 1983, a year before I was born. Shortly after in 1989 the film Pet Sematary was released, it was describe by some as a poor adaptation of the novel. So what makes Stephen Kings writing skills so amazingly popular, ...
...more is revealed about the Pet Cemetery (spelt sematray) Jud reveals that the cemetery was founded many years ago and all that was buried their was children’s pets that had been killed. Everything seems to be great of the Creed family, they had settled into their new home, the children enjoyed their new neighbourhood and Louis’ job was easier and much more relaxing, however suddenly life goes down hill, when a pupil is rushed into the ...

OH NO, Tiddles is scratching at the door...

Advantages: Typical SK scray plot
Disadvantages: Predictable in large places

Pet Sematary is a bit of a strange old book, and that's saying something for a Stephen King story. On one hand it's a good and scary basis for a spine-chilling tale, on the other you can tell what's coming from a mile off which nullifies the suspense aspect somewhat. However, without further ado, here is the basic plot, cut cruelly short before you get to spot the awful inevitability. Dr. Louis Creed moves with his family from the Windy City of ...

There was even a cleared path into the thick of it, flattened by the feet of local children who have taken the lifeless bodies of their beloved pets to their special place. The burial ground. Here the innocent and sad headstones mark the graves of their animals, who were loving placed into the ...

A darkness in the night.

Advantages: Enjoyable bed time read
Disadvantages: Left me wanting more

I found this a good read but it doesn't really get going until the second half although it does keep you gripped. My only gripe was that I wanted to know what happens after the story ends. Although nothing is left unfinished it did feel like something needed to be said with regards to how the charcters carried on. I especially wanted to know how certain things were explained away, like people returning from the dead. I also felt that some things ...

Some of the storyline and characters are of your staple horror genre, death, elderly people, country bumpkins, possible psychic powers, and love. Although for me this did not detract from the storyline at all. If you enjoy a good horror read, then pick this book up. I haven't gone in to ...

When pets go bad!

Advantages: Deeply scary horror story
Disadvantages: The book you'll never forget

Pet Sematary is a wonderful early horror story by the great Stephen King. If you have been disapointed by recent King novels, I can highly recommend his earlier works. This tale is about the happy Creed family who move to a sleepy village. Nearby there is an ancient Indian burial ground specifically for pets and a busy highway! Unfortunately the cat falls victim to the highway and it's not long before the cat is peacefully laid to rest in the pet ...

The suspence of the story continues to build as the family try to adjust to the sudden changes in their beloved family pet. Until one day when something more horrifying occurs... their son gets knocked over. This is a book which certainly captures your attention and is an avid read. I could not recommend the film as somehow it fails to draw you into ...

PET CEMETARY

Advantages: very different
Disadvantages: It has to end!!

I really enjoy Stephen King's novels and have read quite a few of his books. This is one of his more memorable novels as it is very different with a fantasitic ending (don't worry, I won't give it away). The book will have you on the end of your seat and you will not be able to put it down. Each chapter ends on a cliff-hanger making you want to read on further. It is an unusual but great storyline of a cemetary that brings things back to life when ...
...were before, they seem possessed and cold hearted and capable of anything. Although the book never actually goes the way you want it to (e.g. happy ending) its very exciting the whole way though and you will not want to end the story. The characters are very believable and readers can sympathise with the family. They appear to be the perfect happy family whose life are turned upside down by an unexpected tradgedy. The language Stephen uses is very ...

My all time favorite steven king book, starting out as a normal family story and twisting into a nightmare like only steven king can. This book is a MUST HAVE for any king fan it can take a little time to get into it if like me you just can't wait to get to the "Good stuff" as steven king almost always starts his storys in a very realistic sort of way. But trust me its all worth it in the end. The story itself is quite distressing rather then scary ...

A Parent's Worst Nightmare

Advantages: Intense horror and very scary
Disadvantages: Slow first half

There's a point in this book when you feel as if your in a car which has started accelerating towards a brick wall which you know you're going to hit very fast. When I reached that point I got a knot in my stomach, just like when you start descending on a roller-coaster. Louis Creed, a young doctor with a wife and two young children has just moved to a new town in the rural American mid-west. The people are friendly, especially an older guy who ...
...His daughter's cat dies and is buried in an old Indian cemetary. And then...well, I would want to spoil it for you. A certain malevolence drips out of the last half off this book. There are painfull descriptions of how Louis deals with a parent's worst nightmare and justifies his actions. He's taken to an absolute low, and well, when you're that depressed, you'll do anything to bring things back the way they were. ...

dont bury your cat in a graveyard!!!

Advantages: scary as hell
Disadvantages: none of which i can think

When i picked this book up i thought nothing could scare me, but i couldnt put the book down from start to end. It was out of this world, the imagination of king is amazing, to think of burying a cat in an ancient buriel ground and for it to come back to life... although not of good spirit but infact a dark and unnatural being. And then the stupidity of the man to put his child there and his wife and not think anything would happen afterwards lol ...

Pet Sematary - well good

Advantages: Its really good!
Disadvantages: None!

This is a really good book, I'd say one of the best ones by Stephen King. This was one of the first books I read by Stephen King and it got me into the rest of them. Basically the storyline goes as follows: there's this family who have a pet, which gets run over by a car. The kids are really upset because the cat dies, so they decide to do this kind of spell to try and bring it back to life. But it goes a bit wrong and they end up with a zombie cat ...

Pet-rifying Sematary!

Advantages: You will love it!
Disadvantages: Restless nights will follow!

This was the very first Stephen King book I read and now I have over 20 of his books (so you've probably guessed that this review is going to be in favour of the book). Heres a brief explanation about the book (hopefully without giving the whole thing away!) The main character is Dr Louis Creed. He and his family move to a new house in the hills and meadows of Maine whilst exploring the surrounding area they (and a neighbour) find a cemetary...for ...
...the neighbours house when he tells him a disturbing story...he buried his dead dog in the cemetary and a few days later it came back alive...but different...in a bad way. Anyway when a family tradgedy happens Louis is reminded of this story and wonders if the cemetary would do the same thing for him. So you get the idea of how the story will unfold. The story is very unpredictable and has you reading over things a couple of times to actually believe ...
