Advantages Advantages Simple steps, money to be saved

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some effort required

I have used the subject 'petrol price debate' to highlight how to save money on fuel at a time when fuel prices are escalating out of control thanks to greedy oil companies & slimey worthless parasites, a.k.a. politicians. As an ex-mechanic I always used to see an increase in complaints from customers after a budget on poor fuel consumption. They would always fill up their cars with a set amount of fuel (e.g. £20.00), when the price went up after a budget they would get less fuel for the same £20.00. They would then come to the garage & complain that the vehicle was using more fuel when in ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can only be purchased from EcoFlow distributors. Will not work on all cars

HOW MUCH money COULD BE SAVED BY USING A ‘magnet’? ******************************************* ****** In financial terms I cannot answer definitively as much depends on the condition of the engine and the environment it is working under. Although savings of over 20% (20% of £40 =£8) have been claimed, but a common saving on fuel bills of 5% (5% of £40 =£2) would generally provide a relatively short and justifiable payback period. In financial terms savings made by fitting a magnet will increase as fuel costs continue to rise. When I fitted an Ecoflow® magnet to my Vitara JLX my MPG ... more

    Advantages Advantages Runs cars

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, over taxed

With daily news reports appearing on our televisions and in our newspapers, i decided it would be topical to eek out this category and air my views on this very hot topic. Between 71.3 and 76 percent of the price of fuel (depending on octane/diesel etc) is taken in tax. Not only is it heavily levied as road fuel, but added on to that we pay 17.5% VAT. Presently we are faced with two possible increases, firstly price increases from suppliers as a result of the state of terrorism and wars that seems to have gripped the world. The second looming increase is a possible proposed taxation increase ... more

It would be if it wasn't for government duty. People complain about the high level of duty but I've been driving since 1976 and its always like that. There's been a recent outcry about the huge profits that oil companies are making , but this is from industrial oil , not from petrol sales. Garages will make less than 3p a litre on the sale of petrol, I bet they have more mark up on a mars bar! The government arrogant stance on petrol revenue reminded me of the tories, they just told the country that they (the country) wouldnt understand the complicated issues , amd inplied it was the greedy ... more

Advantages Advantages Taking your own action to cut fuel use takes the initiative away from politicians!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Is saving oil tantamount to arranging deckchairs on the Titanic?

“PETROL SOON TO COST AS MUCH AS YOUR PINT!” read an alarmist tabloid headline of a couple of decades or so ago. Well, if you could find me a garage dispensing a gallon of fuel for the price of a beer these days, I’d shower you with all my worldly goods and offer to have your babies, or at least start a few off, leaving a false name and address as I get “me kecks” back on (men need not apply for this position). I don’t want to get embroiled into the “UK motorists pay the highest price for petrol under Labour” debate, for the simple reason that high fuel tax is here to stay, neither major party ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

Optimax petrol is a new fuel recently launched by Shell, who claim its use increases power, torque, performance and cleaning to all petrol engines. Having read confirmation of these claims by Seat Drivers Club members I was immediately gripped by an urge to try it in my partners Seat Ibiza 1.4 S ( I drive an “Oil Fired” Seat Alhambra ). I grabbed my keys to the beezer and filled it with the Optimax. I took the car for a 25 mile drive and sure enough, as the new fuel came through the system the difference in performance was amazing. I would estimate a 10/15% increase in power and ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tax has to be collected somehow

Bet you didn't know that the biggest oilfield on dry land in Western Europe is in England, not only that but it's near a camp site in Devon! Ok, Wych Farm in Purbeck isn't South Fork, but the nodding donkeys do suck up an impressive 85,000 barrels a day, and at $120 each at current prices that's lot of money. In fact about 70 miles of the southern coast of England is a bit of a hot sport for crude and with oil rising 400% in just four years its well worth the speculation. When I read that story in the broadsheets it reminded me of that episode of Rising Damp when Rigsby buys oil shares from ... more

I have found a website, this being www.petrolbusters.com. This site aims to list the petrol prices at the pumps in your locality. Its very easy to use, too. You type your postcode in first. Then you set a travel limit as to how far you are willing to travel. From this information the website finds the petrol prices in your area and compares them to the average price of petrol across. You would normally have to pay for this service but, since it supports the Dump the Pump campaign, you can get a one-day password at www.dumpthepump.co.uk for free. As far as I can tell the site is regularly ... more

Advantages Advantages We all get a good deal on petrol in the system is working well, Government has money to reinvest in better public transport

Disadvantages Disadvantages Its not working at all, public transport is at its worst, pollution levels are rising, Industry is suffering

In this opinion I intend to tell you the truth about petrol prices, should we be taking to the streets? Or backing the government? Petrol prices are a very sensitive issue at the moment, one wrong move by the government or the petrol companies can end up causing all sorts of trouble. The biggest example of this was the original petrol protests. This in my opinion is going to be the landmark that everyone looks back on in the future, the time when the little people (the public) turned around and said "NO", it completely blew the government away and I feel that this is just the start of things ... more

It is at times like these when the apathy of the British public almost drives me insane. We are not known for being the most passionate of people, we moan, oh yes we moan. We moan about everything: the weather, the health service, the 'rip off' economy and taxes... We moan and moan and moan, especially about the extortionate price of PETROL. However, when someone actually decides to do something about it i.e. have a protest 'Dump the Pump' day hardly anyone (out of all those who moan) complies. How can we ever expect something to change if we don't do something about it?? There is an ... more
