3 Stars Perky Pepe keeps on going Review with images 15/04/2009

Advantages Advantages Economical to run in terms of petrol and Insurance and road tax

Disadvantages Disadvantages No longer made, so slightly outdated; Airbags? Who needs them!

April is the month of two birthdays in my house. Mine and Pepe's. Who's Pepe? Why, my Peugeot 106 of course. He remained unnamed until I heard a male friend referring to his Ford Fiesta as Fifi. Only women eh? He's now nearly in his 15th year, and has seen many good times with me. I learnt to drive (officially), relatively late in life, and took my test in May 1999. By that time, I had just bought my first car (Pepe) and was spending most of my spare time driving around, with the aid of any friends or relatives, who frankly had to have thick skin to bear sitting with an irritable and sometimes ... more

Advantages Advantages Good fuel consumption, good servicing intervals, cheap.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Extremely small foot well for the driver, everything else is small too!

I suppose I better start by telling you this aint my car and is my girlfriends, I'm totally against buying brand new cars, but there we go, she aint, I am on the insurance though and have drove it round a fair bit, so here we have it a review on an 03 plate Peugeot 106 1.1 Independence!. THE CAR You see loads of them on the road, the smallest Peugeot of the road, the baby 306, the car Peugeot made for women!did I really just say that? Well it is, I'll tell you why later. The version I'm reviewing is the entry 106, the independence, stripped of all the usual 'comfort' features you find on a car ... more

Advantages Advantages Majorly updated, more solid, better inside and out, still economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages small engine, still basic, little high on the price

OK a bad title! I tried to make it rhyme! I have written an opinion on a 106 before, this went into the general Peugeot 106 category, it was a Mardi Gras, this new car we have is an independence as you can see. I will be talking about the car in general, and comparing it to the old 106 as well. I have driven this new car of ours for a couple of months now, and, dispite my initial reactions, I have now got used to it, as you do, and now I can only praise it! Now, this is a three door 106, the old one was a five door, and this makes such a difference. The new 106 has, bigger side doors to allow ... more

Advantages Advantages Feels nippy (0-40) :D, Grp 3 insurance, Good (40+) MPG, fun to drive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very basic - lack of mod cons, could do with a few more horses under the bonnet, small rattle

Introduction I have owned this car since I passed my driving test in November '08, it is now June '09 at the time of writing this review. I paid £950, it was (and is) clean / tidy looking car with no rusts or dents, which included a CD player and new speakers. Please don't be put off by some of my side ratings, it is hard to rate, but I'd give it an overall 8.5/10. This review is of a 1998 (R Reg) Peugeot 106 1.1L Look+. There are two pictures of my car here - http://yfrog.com/59uload1jx Who is it aimed at? This is a fun little run around for new drivers, or cost conscious people as its cheap ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, Handles Well

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pretty Megre Performace, Saxo owners will laugh at you....

When it was finally agreed in our house that our 140k Escort was getting a little dicey with every M.O.T that it passed, well scraped, it was weighed in, and replaced with a slightly more unlikely vehicle. The replacement vehicle was a small French vehicle, identified soley, in true Peugeot style, by three numbers, 1, 0, and 6. This little "go-kart," was to become my fathers main mode of transport, covering about 200 miles a week. My first encounter with this car was surprise, it looked small, sounded like an old PSA TU engine of decades ago now, but had just enough nuance of charm and ... more

    Advantages Advantages nice car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages speed and space

Having driven my mum’s 106 for over a year now, I am quite sad, but quite pleased she is considering looking at a new car. Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice car, but it just doesn’t have that edge. I know I am only 18, and I don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to driving cars, but I know enough about them to make some conclusions about the car I drive! I learnt in a 206 1.9d, and I thought that this was nippy, but being a diesel didn’t have the edge I (a young driver) was looking for. Once I had passed I thought I may actually find an extra level in the ... more

I have now owned my blue peugeot 106 1.1i XL Independence for over a year. It is the 1997 'R' reg model. As it was my first car i found it very easy and comfortable to drive and as a new driver i didn't mind how slow or how fast my car went, which is why i went for a 1.1 litre engine. I paid £1000 for it and it had 58,000miles on the clock and its exterior was perfect! (it was £1500 but i knew the person selling it!...always a bonus!) During my time owning this i have had some things go wrong, such as run down battery, snapped throttle cable, spare wheel bracket falling off, airbag light ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Comfortable, Reliable, Roomy, Fun to drive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Unexciting interior, minimum equipment.

Needing to replace a decrepit Ford Escort as a cheap second car runabout, I began the search for the ideal car. Test drives in the Citroen Saxo, Nissan Micra, and Toyota Yaris demonstrated the lack of power of the first two vehicles, and the relatively high cost of the latter. A drive in the Peugeot 106 Independence immediately attracted me to the car, due to its rapid acceleration, excellent road-holding, and enormous amount of leg room in the front and back. I then searched for the best price and overall deal I could get on this vehicle. THE CAR. The Peugoat 106 Independence is a small car ... more

Peugot 106 Zest 2. This car has served me well for 3 years now and while I am currently thinking of upgrading, I am more than pleased with my first car. The 106 is the daddy for summer time cruising and for this I would recommend the silver or black paint job. Compared with a friends older model 106 mine is closer to the ground and seems to have fatter tyres. This gives the car a sportier look and therefore seems to look like it ought to cost more than its list price. Metallic paint jobs, sunroofs and electric windows are all available to order at extra cost. One downfall which I would like to ... more

The compact 106 is definitely a car for the ladies. I got my red 106 Look+ 1.1 as my first car when I was 17. Although I have a new car now, 3 years on it had never let me down. ~:Body:~ The cute three door hatchback is satisfactory enough for anyone after a car that gets them from A to B. The bumpers aren't colour coded as they are in newer models and although the hubcaps are good, alloys would be better. But this is the reason it comes so cheap. ~:Price:~ The car was bought for me at £4,500 in 1999. It is an R reg so was nearly new. At present I am trying to sell it for £2,750 (anyone ... more
