“Zest 3 1.5 diesel”

published 01/03/2001

Well constructed and finished

not much room in the back

I drive about 38,000 miles a year, and have always favoured diesel cars. I have owned new Citroens, but during the past 5 years have purchased used Peugeots. Image is not important. Reliability is a must, though, so I turned away from the Citroen with their hydraulic suspension (ok when new but...

Cheap, nippy

Slow to pick up speed on motorways

We owned a Peugeot 106 1.5D Graduate for a year and it was excellent. My wife had it to commute to work (100 miles per day) in Germany and it got hammered up and down the autobahns every day. We covered 29000 miles in a year and it never missed a beat. The fuel economy was great, particularly...

“wee tank”

published 10/10/2003

economical and reliable

no power steering

I owned a Peugeot 106 XND for 6 years. Throughout this time, I had no trouble with it whatsoever. The only reason I traded it in when I did was because I had rather stupidly put far too much oil in it and damaged the engine (a mistake never to be repeated!). I found this to be a great little car...

Noisy Diesel, Peugeot Interior, Cramped

I cannot see what is all the fuss about 106's, I drove a 106 1.5d for about three months and didn't particularly enjoy the experience. For starters, this is one cramped car, if you over six foot (like me) you'll struggle to find a comfortable driving position, this is made worse because of the...

Here we go, First Review! I currently live in Portugal, Diesel is 30% cheaper here than Petrol, So an obvious choice is Diesel. I commute 110kms per day, round trip. I purchased my 106 about a year ago, and have covered 25,000 miles since then. It now has 80,000 mile on the clock. PRO'S It has...

Cheap to run, Very reliable....

Bit slow when eccelerating......

Ive had my 106 XND now for about 1 year, and it has been very reliable. The car all in all is fantastic, cheap to run, I fill mine up once every 2 weeks and that only costs me around £25-£30 a time (depending on rates of diesel, which arent great at the minute) So for around £30 i can do about...

The pug 106 is a wee dream to own. Before it I had a Seat Toledo, another fine car, but I decided to go out under my own name in insurance, Dangerous ground for a young fella like myself iin Northern Ireland. The wee Pug is a great motor. The diesel engine is pokey enough if you need it and as...

This is my first car, being 18 my friends laugh at me for having a diesel but I don't care cos it is such a good car. I drove to Swindon to see my brother in it once which is 160 miles from where I live, a lot of it was motorway driving and I worked it out to be around 70mpg!!! This included...

Diesels? Smelly and noisy? Those are comments from the past. The 106 Diesel is noiser than a petrol car but not significantly so. the noise difference is most noticeable at idle but you become accustomed to it. Better still ask a friens after a few rides can they notice it? The 106 is a small car...

Most of the reviews on here sing the praises of the 106's remarkable fuel economy without giving very much actual buyer advice. with earliest examples now pushing 17 years old there ARE plenty of caveats to be aware of. Personally I wouldnt buy one without a long MOT, and even then be sure to...

When I was looking for a reliable car that was cheap to run and one that I could afford that was also comfortable and good to drive, I opted to buy the Pug 106 1.5 diesel. Having read other reviews of the car, there was no contest: and it has lived up to all the good reviews. My car costs about...

Not the best for features comfort and handling

Before you go on to read this review i must explain how every car review tends to reflect the writer's own experiences rather than an objective view. And i think this car is great. Diesel is the way to go for fuel these days until developing technology discoversan even more efficient fuel for...

I initially bought the Peugeot 106 1.5D XND as a learner car for the other half, but after running it around for a couple of weeks, I decided to have it for myself. I make regular trips to Plymouth from Shropshire (Approx. 530 mile round trip) and this is the perfect car for the journey. It'll bob along comfortably on the motorway. It has a 10 gallon tank (45litres) and I have so far managed to get 660 miles to a tank of fuel. That's an incredible 66mpg! Another interesting point is this: I'm 6'5", and I fit in it with room to spare. Okay, there's not a lot of space in the back or boot, but for a cheap, economical runaround, this is the car for me!
