...mileages I cover.
With Peugeot I have in general found maintenance to be straightforward, reliability is good, and economy is very good.
I had two 205 diesels, both of which were very good. Then one day I saw a low mileage 106 Zest 3 diesel. When reviewing a car, the opinion will of course depend on the owner's experiences with the previous car. I can say that the 106 is better in every way than the 205. I have so far covered just 25000 miles in ... ...which my garage (not a Peugeot dealership) was unable to diagnose.
It started suddenly. I was slowing up at a roundabout, and the engine started vibrating heavily. I thought maybe an injector was blocked, and changed the fuel filter, had the exhaust brackets checked, and in the end resorted to using a fuel additive supposed to quieten noisy diesels. This appeared to help - but for a while only.
Finally a visit to a Peuguot dealership (I know I ...

Advantages: Cheap, nippy Disadvantages: Slow to pick up speed on motorways
We owned a Peugeot 106 1.5D Graduate for a year and it was excellent. My wife had it to commute to work (100 miles per day) in Germany and it got hammered up and down the autobahns every day. We covered 29000 miles in a year and it never missed a beat. The fuel economy was great, particularly considering the hammering it got. We even took it to Spain and brought it back full of wine. On the day we drovw home I covered 1080 miles in 18 hours which ... ...We made plenty of stops but the car ran without a glitch despite the temperature being around 34C. The only problem was that to maximise speed we had to keep the sunroof down!!
It handled very well although you had to be careful not to carry too much speed into corners as it would scrub the front tyres very easily probably due to the extra weight of the diesel engine. The other key trick was to keep the momentum going, once you messed it up on the ...

Advantages: economical and reliable Disadvantages: no power steering
I owned a Peugeot 106 XND for 6 years. Throughout this time, I had no trouble with it whatsoever. The only reason I traded it in when I did was because I had rather stupidly put far too much oil in it and damaged the engine (a mistake never to be repeated!).
I found this to be a great little car. It was extremely economical. My journey to and from work each day is only about 30 minutes and I only had to go to the petrol station once a fortnight. ... ...couple of bumps in my Peugeot and the wee car fared well in them both. Neither my fault I have to point out.
On the downside, the 106 did lack power (58bhp for those that understand this terminology!). The car would struggle going up hills on the motorway. Many a time I felt as though I was almost pushing it up with my face almost touching the windscreen, my foot flat on the floor and an articulated lorry about an inch behind. The secret is to get ...

...the cabin is the usual Peugeot standard, it looks drab and unremarkable. The 106 isn't the safest car in it's class either which is worth noting if your going to ferry kids around in this car. There is a new 107 just on the horizon which promises to be a great deal better than this model.
I'm sure the petrol variants are much better, and the GTi looks like a bargain. As a 2nd hand buy the 106 probably makes some sense, in petrol form anyway, I would ...

...It comes with standard Peugeot Immobilser which you can change the code on anytime you like, you can also change the code for a short while, like when you take the car into the garage , so if you dont want to give them your proper code you can change it for a short while. All this is explained in the owners manual.

As you might be aware diesel's can do up to 150k even before they show any signs of wear and tear.
The car does make the usual diesel engine noise but thats nothing to worry about, especially when you get so much use out of the car.
This really is a fantastic car, great looks and very cheap to run, definatley worth a look....... ...

Here we go, First Review!
I currently live in Portugal, Diesel is 30% cheaper here than Petrol, So an obvious choice is Diesel. I commute 110kms per day, round trip.
I purchased my 106 about a year ago, and have covered 25,000 miles since then. It now has 80,000 mile on the clock.
PRO'S
It has lived up to all of my expectations, and more.
Excellent reliability, tyre life & fuel consumption.
It normally does 600 miles on a tank! Which is 44-45 ... ...approx. 60mpg, This is 75% Motorway @ 70 - 85mph, & 25% secondary roads.
Gearbox is a good mix of ratios; I seldom need to drop down to fourth on m-ways (Except with 4 adults in the car!)
In the last year, apart from normal servicing, I have replaced the cam belt, (Worthwhile doing on any overhead cam car) and replaced the clutch cable. Not bad ehh!
She is a little sluggish, but once your upped speed, will happily do 80mph all day long. I suppose ...

The pug 106 is a wee dream to own. Before it I had a Seat Toledo, another fine car, but I decided to go out under my own name in insurance, Dangerous ground for a young fella like myself iin Northern Ireland.
The wee Pug is a great motor. The diesel engine is pokey enough if you need it and as easier on diesel as a bicycle (nearly)! Mine, a 1998 Look plus, was bought for £690 a few months back with 81000 miles. Admittedly theres a few bumps and ... ...against. mechanically the cars sound . Ok a replacxement dash was installed as the fuel guage wasnt working, PCB fault, but I could still be pottelling about without the guage. Driving by the mile clock is much more interesting. To get the car through its MOT two new tires were alll that was required to replace the originals, with 81000, thats not too bad. Recently Ive replaced the exhaust as there was a hole and rust startiung to appear. The beauty ...

Got one of these a a few months back and din't keep it for long at all! unfrotuneately it really wasn't to my liking, so back to my fiat 55s! yay! The 106 was on a P plate with 84000 miles on the clock, Diesels remember are workhorses and will no doubt clock onto 200,000 miles with ease! thats the engine, the rest of the car may have something to say about that though, The steering ball joints are very weak, in my experience and both broke! The engine ... ...but it does sound like a Massey Ferguson! Once heard a transit van drive down my street, I turned around, and it wasn't a van at all, it was my sister in this car! These cars are quite common now, 106s have become the new Nova's of the boy racer scene and this may be a problem for many people, but good for young drivers as mods are available everywhere you go!
For a diesel this is a nippy, economical car. top speed of about 90ish MPH. If you drove ...

Diesels? Smelly and noisy?
Those are comments from the past.
The 106 Diesel is noiser than a petrol car but not significantly so.
the noise difference is most noticeable at idle but you become accustomed to it. Better still ask a friens after a few rides can they notice it?
The 106 is a small car and the 1.5l diesel supplies a good power to wieght ration but is no racer. It is highly economical. 50mpg is routine. Diesel is no longer much cheaper ... ...less trips to the filling station, a lot less!
The space inside a 106 is limited and four adults could not travel a great distance. The 306 is a better people carrier.
However the 106 diesel is efficient and relatively cheap to maintain.
It is available in a range of colours to suit most tastes.
Brand new, it comes at an affordable piece and often with free insurance offers.
An ideal second car or runabout ...

Advantages: Economical, cheap to run and own Disadvantages: leaky sunroof
When I was looking for a reliable car that was cheap to run and one that I could afford that was also comfortable and good to drive, I opted to buy the Pug 106 1.5 diesel. Having read other reviews of the car, there was no contest: and it has lived up to all the good reviews.
My car costs about £40 for a full tank and I can get up to 550 miles to a tank so I was very impressed with this. In this time I have replaced the radiator, 1 wheel bearing, 1 drive shaft (the other needs doing) brakes (front and back), full exhaust, rear windscreen motor, and a new set of tyres. This is my first car, being 18 my friends laugh at me for having a diesel but I don't care cos it is such a good car. I drove to Swindon to see my brother in it once which is 160 miles from where I live, a lot of it was motorway driving and I worked it out to be around 70mpg!!! This included doing 105mph in it a few times (couldn't help it, there was a porsche that needed overtaking).
I put £10 diesel in it last week, that lasted me a week and about ... ...my mates about as any foolish teen does.
I bought my N reg for a bargain £850, it had 115500 miles on the clock so I got the timing belt changed and new glow plugs as well as a new air filter and oil change and oil filter and the engine is still going like it has only just been broken in. It may sound bit tractorish on cold mornings but when it is warmed up it is quiet like a petrol (even a small volume of music inside the car will mean you can't ...

What peugeot forgot to do was stick a little turbo in it to help it up those steep gradients and help it pull out at roundabouts and junctions intime not to get hit by that 45ft jugernaught thats steaming round the bend.. Quick review of Peugeot 106 1.5 D
I initially bought the Peugeot 106 1.5D XND as a learner car for the other half, but after running it around for a couple of weeks, I decided to have it for myself. I make regular trips to Plymouth from Shropshire (Approx. 530 mile round trip) and this is the perfect car for the journey.
It'll bob along comfortably on the motorway. It has a 10 gallon tank (45litres) and I have so far managed to get 660 miles to a tank of fuel. That's an incredible 66mpg!
Another interesting point is this: I'm 6'5", and I fit in it with room to spare. Okay, there's not a lot of space in the back or boot, but for a cheap, economical runaround, this is the car for me! ...

Advantages: Great economic little car Disadvantages: No power steering, no cruise control (lol)
I've had a Pugeot 106 1.5D now for nearly a year. I broke a rear shock absorber on my 4 litre Jaguar, so my mate offered to give me the pug as his son didn't want it (not fashionable enough for a teenager!) as a stop gap for work. It needed front brake discs, pads, had a leaky fuel pump and several other things wrong with it. So, I spent a week working on the 106 and spent 300 quid getting it legal, the 300 includes all the parts I needed, tax and ... ...I fully intended to scrap, or sell it after the Jaguar was back on the road. I travel about 200 miles a week for work and I can spend at least 60 quid on fuel for the guzzler but the pug was costing about a quarter of this, the little car saves me about 200 quid a month. I can't even consider using the big car for work anymore (do the maths!), and even though the pug has no power steering, drives like a dead slug and sounds like out milkman's delivery ...

I have owned a peugeot 106 for about 5 years now, from new, and have had no real problems with it at all. The only thing that has needed replacement has been the the glo-plugs which cost me around £75.00. the ride quality is good, if not a bit leany on cornering, nut the only negative thing about the car is possibly rather heavy tyre wear on the front tyres. It has great pull, and is really nippy for the diesel. Fuel economy is good also, getting ...
