Advantages: Cheap to run Disadvantages: Not much to look at
...will be based upon the Peugeot 205 "Junior", 1.0 litre engine, manual drive.
Sitting at my desk, I peer out onto the driveway and look at the car sitting there, mine is white with black and red stripe finish which is typical design on Junior models. It is decorated inside with cuddly toys (mainly pooh bear) but that is all my doing.
Soo, to the point. The facts.....
My car typically burns 40 miles per gallon, on average it would cost £40.00 to ... ...in the form of a Peugeot 306 D-Turbo (1.9 Deisel) Silver, P-Reg and very nice it is too. THE PEUGEOT 205 JUNIOR SOLD FOR £290! It was in fairly good condition i.e. newish tyres, new ish battery and many things that go wrong on this type of car had already been replaced, so you can use this as a marker point to buy/sell a 205 if you are doing so- thought this info might be helpfull.
Good Luck! Vic

Advantages: Still going strong today, great image, fun to drive Disadvantages: Petrol guzzling, no or little safety, engine problems.
...Yes, I Tonie, owned a Peugeot 205 GL, I thank you....
When I first passed my test I was eager to get a car (who isn't?) so after a few days of moping about on Autotrader and Loot I decided that I wanted a Peugeot. Imparticular I wanted a 206, but unfortunatly my budget didn't go as far as 7 grand, so my next option was a 205. So, after more time on the net I found a F reg 205 GL for 350 pounds. Now I realise that the car wasn't worth that but I ... ...became the extremely proud owner of a battered, moulding 205. After a good, good clean and wax it actually looked pretty good, apart for the nearside wing and two passenger door (oh yes! It was a five door!) being a slightly darker blue than the rest of the car, it scrubbed up well. Other faults included when I first got it was a stiff clutch which had a very bad squiek about it, it guzzled petrol like there was no tommorrow, it had two keys for ...

Advantages: Small, Fast, Cheap Disadvantages: Looks are a little dated
I had a 205 for about 1 and a half years and it was my first car. I had a red 205 XL (1991 H Reg) with an 1124 CC (1.1) engine. I have decided to write this opinion based on my expereince with this car and have broken it down under the following headings to make it easier to read.
Style
~~~~~
The style is still current enough for you to get away with it but it is starting to get slightly dated. There are also a lot of differnt version of the 205 ... ...the same outside with different styling inside. The inside is vaery basic, with there being a grey plastic dashboard and doors, with the metal body work (same colour as the outside bodywork) being visible from the inside (around the door windows and boot). Comfort
~~~~~~~
The very first time i sat in the 205, the first thing that struck me was how comfortable the seats were. They were really soft and you just sank into them. There is plenty of ...

Obviously Peugeot made more models than the GTI such as the diesel which still is on of the most economical cars on the road.
One of the upgrades in the GTI models was the reinforced roof and floor panels. I guess they figured that if they made a car that would do 130mph then they better reinforce it a little bit. I owe my life to this one modification! Gone are my days of boy racerdom but I still have the pictures and the memories ...

Advantages: Looks good, reliable, cheap to buy now Disadvantages: road noise
I have had my 205 XS for 5 years now and believe it has been good value for my first car. I have driven all over England with it and it has proved reliable and performs fairly well for its capacity. When I got the car I stuck a performance air filter on, some alloy wheels and a janspeed 3" exhaust to give it some extra punch and improve its image. I have had 110mph out of the car I estimate it might reach 115mph which is good for a 1400cc car. When ... ...70mph I notice an increase in road noise. After time the noise becomes annoying and this is one constant grumble Ive had as an owner. The performance of the car around town is very good its ideal for nipping about and taking short journeys. The car has a nice big slide back sunroof which lets light in and the small side windows at the back can be opened to let more air in. When the small back windows are open they also improve the cars image by making ...

...easy to come by, a Peugeot dealer should still have everything, and there are many specialists who sell aftermarket parts. I insure mine as a second car for only £200 pa so insurance is reasonable too. To my mind this car represents perhaps the golden age of car design. It is high tech enough to be reliable and good to drive, but not too high tech with all the problems that brings. If you enjoy driving you owe it to yourself to own or at least have ...

Advantages: Low running costs, the turbo, long life Disadvantages: Peugeot have stopped making them
Peugeot have always been well-known for their diesel engines and it was this that prompted me to buy my first 205. It was a 205 XLD, very basic with few bells and whistles but phew, it could go. By the time I sold it, it had 130,000 miles on the clock but acted like it was barely run in. Okay, like all old diesels it sounded a bit like a tractor when you started it on a cold morning but it was soon purring along, cruising past those feeble petrol ... ...always. Because of their long-life and reliability, they still fetch quite good prices 2nd hand. Buy one now because demand is starting to exceed supply. An ideal 1st/2nd car.
I lament the day that Peugeot stopped making these cars. I hope the 206 is a worthy replacement! ...

Advantages: A very reliable, economical and long lasting engine Disadvantages: Mine has worn out a couple of front wheel bearings
...distance away. My good old Peugeot still returns about 50 MPG which is excellent considering the age of the engine.
In all the time I've had it it's had a new water pump, starter motor, radiator, timing belt (which I always replace when buying a car as you can't always be sure it's had one), and a couple of front wheel bearings - 1 either side. These are what I would describe as non-routine parts whereas brake pads, oil, tyres etc are routine on ... ...been in since the car was made and so at 100,000 miles I still feel this is excellent going. Obviously with an older high mileage car there will be parts that wear out.
When changing the wheel bearings I just bought the whole front wheel hub which includes the bearings, where the break shoes are mounted, not including the suspension strutt from a scrapyard costing £10 and they are so easy to fit in 1 hour tops. The wheel bearings on their own are ...

Advantages: Good fuel consumption Disadvantages: Unsafe
I had a 205 junior for my first car - not that impressive and the name is a give-away. It had no guts at all. 950cc urrrr, under a litre although it kept me alive. A car with no guts is great for a first diver - now i am a bit older i can see that. BUT it felt awful. In my opinon it had no saftey features at all, it looked and felt like a tin and the quality of parts was somewhat lacking.! It could still do about 90 though, however a head wind would ... ...buy something with a little worse fuel capacity and better saftey features as the only people who should own this type of car are learners and they really do need cars that dont make you think that you will roll when you go round a corner.! I suppose on the up side that no self respecting thief will nick one, although mine was broken into.! ...

...1994. It was a white Peugeot 205, 1.4 liters gasoline 5 door, with centralized locking, front electronic windows, and A/C. Ever since, I remember the car as being one of us, until it was left to only short hops when we got our second car and retired happily. It still serves us today, and it will be my first car when I'll get my driving license. On the outside, it looks great. From the inside, it's... different. The plastic's quality is terrible - ... ...something quite impressive for a Peugeot product. The central locking not always works, but it did work for 10 years. The seats are really awesome. You won't find anything like this in any other car. They are comfy, and you sink into them. They don't give you a spongy feeling, though. They're very supportive. Also, there is QUITE a lot of space for such a small car. If you move your seat fully back, you will be able to almost fully stretch your legs! ...

Advantages: Goes like hot stink Disadvantages: A bit dated and its hard to find a good one now.
When I finished college at the age of 21, I wanted to have a car with a bit more zest than my clapped out old Red Escort. Dont get me wrong, I loved that car but It was time for some poke!!! I managed to find an "F" reg Graphite Grey 205GTI. It was only a 1.6 but man did it go!!!I loved that car and had many good times in it.Nearly everything went wrong on it in the 2 years I owned it. I had a new cylinder head at one point after the old one warped ... ...car. By the time Pierre was ready for the scrap yard, he only had 3rd 4th and 5th left as "nd crunched real bad and 1st was shot to bits. I remember driving away from the Garage in my nice shiny RS 1800 Fiesta and having one last look in my rear view mirror at him. Poor Pierre. I would still recommend one to anyone. Try and get a 1.6 if you can as the 1.9's were bought for one purpose and it wasnt to do the shopping in by old ladies!!! ...

...car was my very own Peugeot 205 GT (G reg). It's a sort of slivery blue, 5 door. I have to say that I whole heartedly love this car, it is actually my favourite posession, so I thought I would write a review to reflect how it does from a first car point of view. Firstly, safety:
I have to admit that the fact that it doesn't have any airbags does bother me. I also get worried about the alarm, as it doesnt have one, but that could easily be fixed ... ...I do worry that I'll forget to lock one of the doors, and someone could get in ( all those women safety talks seem to have gotten to me) and so that is just an extra worry, but i do faithfully lock all the doors before I get out. (Another disadvantage= no central locking :( ) On a plus side, the car has fully working seatbelts to accomodate every person in the back and front, so i never need to worry about that. The door pillars are very thin, so ...

Advantages: great drive, goes on and on Disadvantages: now very dated
Despite its dated looks compared to modern superminis, this is a cracking little car.
It’s cheap to buy and run with superb handling ability. Despite its advancing age, these little cars just seem to go on and on.
However, it is not that spacious, parts are not cheap and build quality can be rather suspect. Equipment levels are poor by today’s standards……..no central locking, electric windows or alarm as standard.
If buying, look out for rust ...

...hatch of the decade? The Peugeot 205 Gti is probably still the best hatch you can buy for pace, performance, balance and accurate steering, despite all the new breeds of Gti’s around today. I had a 1.9 Gti for 2 years and still smile when I remember how much pleasure it gave me. For sheer fun, there isn’t much to beat it. However, there are some serious drawbacks if you are looking for comfort in a car: the suspension is very hard; the steering is ... ...aren’t that great; it can be very noisy on the motorway; the car is very light and feels it! There are also very few good 205 Gti’s out there anymore, most of them are likely to be thrashed, so if you’re thinking of buying one look very hard, and make sure whatever you buy has genuine mileage because the valve stems are known to wear after 70000 miles or so. ...
