She was just waiting for us to buy her

Advantages: Comfortable, roomy, economical, attractive
Disadvantages: None

...She’s a V reg Peugeot 306 1.4 in Ocean Blue, so even the colour was one that we liked. It was May 2000 when we first saw the car and the date of registration was the previous December which is why there was about £2,000 knocked off the asking price, as the new registration letter was about to become available. Even better was the fact that she only had nine miles on the clock! And we got a discount card to get 10% off spares when we purchased ...
...buying this car for an instant. Dave loves to drive it, I am happy and comfortable as the passenger (and map-reader), there’s plenty of room for mom and dad in the back and there’s plenty of luggage space too. If we need to move something bigger than usual we can split the back seat one third or two thirds or lie it completely flat and there’s a LOT of room in the hatch back then! Add all this to the fact that she only uses about ...

...in red and comes with Peugeot alloy wheels. The standard car is a beauty and this no coincidence as it was designed by Italian car design house Pininfarina, yup you guessed it the people that design Ferraris. The car lines are sharp and sexy and it looks good still even though it was launched more than a decade ago. The car is amazingly roomy inside and in common with most French cars is a very comfortable car. The interiors are of a good quality ...
...every 6 months though a Peugeot engines tend to misfire if not done. Never ever underestimate the coolant level as it can turn into a heat casket nightmare. This won't be cheap to repair even though it costs £30 for the part is £200 for labour as it is a pain to get to it, courtesy of good but awkward mechanics that French and Japanese cars enjoy. Not much room for DIY either. The windscreen wash tank tend to clog up a bit so should be thoroughly ...

Everyone should have one, Peugeot 306

Advantages: Economical, Cheap Insurance, Cheap to buy 2nd hand
Disadvantages: A Little dated now, but not much

I have had my Peugeot 306 for almost a year now, and have had absolutely no complaints, apart from the fact that the windscreen got chipped on the first day (Thank you Mr. Micra, wherever you may be), and it now has a crack across 1/3 the screen on the passenger side mind you, and also a nasty knock a month into driving it. (Courtesy of Mr. Anglian Water, thank you too!) So apart from a frantic and painful first month of new ownership I have had ...
...3rd hand! My Peugeot was one of the first 306’s to be made, so just missed out on the standard sunroof and electric windows, but I am not in the slightest bit bothered, as I got mine for a very reasonable price of £2100, with a mere 56,000 miles on the clock, a CD player thrown in for free, perfect service history, and a funky blue gear stick left from the previous owner! Not a problem as my favourite colour is blue! The good thing about the ...

excellent little car. not so kind on the wallet

Advantages: good road handling.I feel very safe driving it. spacious, good looking
Disadvantages: very expensive to repair and maintain, gear changes, brakes, uncomfortable seats on long journeys

I purchased my M reg Peugeot 306 petrol 1.4 XN 15 months ago after being attracted to it by it's good looks and rather "squat" appearance. Although not the most exciting looking car around, it definately has a certain something that suggests that underneath it all, there is a bit of a beast waiting to get out. And when i first drove it, it did not dissapoint. It clings to the road like nothing I have driven before (and believe me there have been ...
...handling is excellent. since owning it, i have driven it on about every road possible, from windy country lanes in icy conditions to the cramped roads of the city and it handles itself beautifully everytime. I have never once felt unsafe behind the wheel of the 306, thus i have been able to relax whilst driving and have a bit of fun with it. And a lot of fun it has been!!! Its nippy and copes with long journeys superbly. It happily cruises along ...

Good but starting to look dated

Advantages: Dull interior, excessive road noise
Disadvantages: excellent ride and handling

This incredibly popular Peugeot is now starting to show its age, particularly since the arrival of the 206. Dynamically excellent and keenly priced, the 306 is still a very sound buy, but it does need a replacement soon. And a little more interior space. The 306 suffers from dull, angular interiors and poor rear leg room. On the plus side, build quality is decent and the boot is practical and spacious. The ride and handling are excellent, with accurate ...

the female perspective to should i buy one

Advantages: Spacious small car, very easy handling, good on the petrol, nice little run around
Disadvantages: reputation as a lads car, quite common and easy to loose in a car park

Bought a 306 as my first car. When I was looking, all the guys told me this one or that one. My boyfriend persauded me to get the 306. I'm so glad he did, I wouldn't trade it in. Thought some of the females out there would like the girlie opinion. Its a spacious small car, very nippy and easy to handle. Despite it's reputation of being a lads car it's very much suited to the female drivers. With power steering it's a doddle to park (yes, even I, ...
...first car I've been driving for years and find it goes easy on the petrol even in city traffic. It's quite nippy with good acceleration. Copes well with those windy country rodes as well as those tediously long straight motorways. On the spacious side, it has amble room whether you are tall, short, curvacious or a sloucher. The boot holds a suprising amount.(had a washing machine in mine the other day) The shape of the boot is a bonus as without ...

The Pocket Rocket

Advantages: Goes like a rocket, cheap to insure
Disadvantages: Rare to find a cheap one.

I have recently purchased a 1993 1.4 Dark Green 306, and I am very happy with my purchase. It is my first car, I am male and it only cost me 900GBP to insure it, depite it being a 1.4 and me with no years claims discount. I have affectionaly called it the pocket rocket as it really flies, the milage on it was really high when I purchased it, yet the price was held at 575GBP. The interior is abit drag, yet in 1993, that was to be expected. Despite ...
...that the car ages well, so it is highly advised to buy one, despite the age or milage. Some negative points would be the gearbox, I found this very difficult to get on with, especially reverse, as you can slip into this, just like any other gear (unlike, for example, vauxhall, where you lift up a clip in the gear knob). I have several incidents where I have been trying to put it in forth and it goes into reverse! Another minor point is that my ...

IMPORTANT If you own a 306 1.4 1997-2001

Advantages: Nice Road handling, Looks Great, Low Insurance, Low Tax
Disadvantages: Major Engine Faults

If anyone has a Peugeot 306 1.4 1997-2001or is considering purchasing one in this group I urge them to check the make of coil packs on the engine, if they are bosch get them changed ASAP before they corrupt the ECU on the vehicle. This is a common fault on these 306's as I have found to my costs. Changing the coilpacks before they fail (use bougicord instead of bosch) will cost around £150. If they fail (which the bosch will definately, it's just ...
...the car to my local peugeot dealer who knew (without even looking at the car) what had gone wrong. His exact words were that "306's were prone to this" and he'd had loads in for repairs over the last couple of years. I asked why Peugeot had not recalled them but he had no answer. Peugeot quoted me nearly £2000 to put all the problems right (half the value of the car). I told them I didn't want it repaired so they charged me £60.00 for their "Expert ...

Fantastic little car

Advantages: Brilliant Handling, Economical, So much can be done to it
Disadvantages: Bit sluggish uphill, usual peugeot oil trouble

I had a dream to buy a 306 before i was 21, and now I have one, has alloys and front electric windows and sunroof, which considering its a P reg (96-97) and its only an XL model (bottom to top XN,XL,XR,XT)then it is a really good car. Also with 42 miles to the gallon same economy as the DT model. I picked up mine for £1500 with a new clutch, head gasket, and cambelt all fitted for me and a full service and years MOT. Best of all considering I had ...
...group 4 appealed to me. The problem with the oil leak is minor and the uphill problem is very rarely anything to worry about so long as the car is in the torque range. Plus any 1360cc engine that gives me 30 in 1st 60 in 2nd and 80 in 3rd before going into the red zone on the rev counter is a good car. At first I was totally convinced it was a 1.6 engine instead. Got mine sorted now will eventually put a website up for it with before and afters. ...

could be excellent, could be a money pit

Advantages: economy, handling, looks, build quality
Disadvantages: acceleration,

I bought a 97 306, miami 5dr, 1.4l 2 monthes ago. i was lucky to get the car i did because as the title says, it really can go either way! it's done just over 70k, and like most others this age and mileage has a new clutch. It's a fantastic car to handle, something you can confidently drive fast and comfotably drive slow. The acceleration wont take your breath away at around 14 seconds for the late phase 2 multipoint injection version such as ...
...15 seconds. my recomendation therefore is do not go beneath a 1.4 litre. you will just get bored before you reach moterway speed. saying that though, the car is bloody nippy if you give it enough rev's (and it's a perfect car to give rev's too), 0-40 is as quick as anything i have driven in it's category, it's just the 40-60 which is a bit sedate. so.... build quality, in mine, excellent! interior is firmly attached, tracking is correct, suspension ...

The car I had, helped.

Advantages: quick, quiet engine, lots of room, good steering
Disadvantages:

When I first started taking driving lessons, I was always in different cars, because it was members of my family that took me. I went from a f reg Carlton, to an old banger like a c reg fiat panda. i thought there was no hope for me. Then I was given a chance, my dad bought a new car, a peugot 306 and I was in heaven. The car handles so well, the engine; you can barely hear it. There is none of this using all your strength just to turn, not with ...

GREAT CAR

Advantages: GOOD CAR!!
Disadvantages: NONE

I try to think positively whenever I look at a car, but with the 306, I didn't even need to think. Great handling, Great looks. One of the smoothest driven cars on the road. Not too expensive. There are many many things that can be said for this car, too many to be listed at the present moment in time, but I have to say that the major advantage of this car to the others that I have driven is that this one has power steering, of which I am now a great ...

1st car

Advantages: Brillant 1st car cheap to run and loads of fun
Disadvantages: none

This is my first car and it is such a good car, easy to drive with good handling from its power steering and ABS also comes with an imobliser so the insurance is cheap. I cannot fault this car from its power at top range to the slow driving in cities, if you want to modify it, its so easy as there are loads of stockists, its also an easy car to maintain and care for. This is the best hot hatch for its money, don't bother with anything else. Saying ...

Okay I've had my 306 for over a year now and although I do love it, it has not been cheap running it, as I've had to have a new clutch, fan belt, water pump and battery, but now she runs perfectly and I would buy another 306 when the time comes. ...
