Advantages: Cheap, not a bad looking car, fuel efficient Disadvantages: Low equipment models, slow
...pretty quick for work. Normally, Peugeot would have been the last manufacturer I would have turned to! I saw my 306 advertised locally for £800 with 6 months tax, and almost a full years MOT, so it seemed like quite a bargain. Having to look past my moderate dislike of Peugeots, and French cars in general, it actually wasn't a bad looking little car. The model I have is the 1.9 naturally aspirated diesel engine, and the XND trim level. The first ... ...corner, I've regularly seen my Peugeot go from a quarter of a tank of diesel, right down to the bottom, even to the point where the fuel light comes on. Whether this is a design flaw, or perhaps simply a faulty gauge on my car, I couldn't say. The seats are comfortable, and fine for long journeys. For quite a small car there is quite good leg room in the back also. In terms of driving, I have to say that this car is one of the nicest drives. I've ...

...to an N reg (1995) peugeot 306 1.9l diesel. In this review i will compare the peugeot to a small petrol engined car to see like for like which type of car would be best for a younger driver.
Firstly i will look at the financial aspects of the two cars. On purchase price they were both quite similar although the fiesta was bought a few years before the peugeot. If bought at the same time the Peugeot would obviously cost more initially but in the ... ...The clear advantage of the peugeot when it comes to overall cost is its excellent fuel economy. Officially the peugeot has a combined fuel consumption of 45.56 miles to the gallon however it is easier to relay my own experiences of the two cars. Under general motoring conditions of using the car for social and commuter use with a maximum of 10000 miles per year the fiesta would cost approximately £20 per week in petrol whereas £40 (a full tank) in ...

...space was occupied by a Peugeot 306.
With a need for reliability and as new a car as possible, I was rather surprised to find a P reg 306 Diesel Style tucked away in the corner of the car superstore, like an ugly dog at a dog pound, unloved and unseen.
I trawled around it's rivals again, all lower spec and lower reg., but with the same price tag. Armed with a trusty mechanic to kick the tyres for me, we were further astounded that the low price ... ...as my experience with the Peugeot grew. On a 50 litre tank I get around 400 miles on inner city driving, Peugeot's reputation for producing leading diesel engines is well grounded here. Though a little rough on the ears for the first 5 minutes, the engine shows no signs of heavy use as it warms to a smooth comfortable drive. The five forward gear ratios can be a little imbalanced in the early stages but once into the mid-range the pull really delivers ...

I have always admired the 306 since launch. It's a smart and functional looking car, still looks good today. I bought my secondhand 306 DTurbo over 3 years ago, I loved it that day and I still love it every time I drive it. Here's why...
It gives me almost everything I want from a car: on days when I'm feeling very Ecofreak, I can chug along in lower revs, and she gives me a beautifully smooth 55mpg URBAN! When the sun's out and I feel laddish, ... ...kicks in - then the car is fast! Not quite a sports car, but as quick as the new Golf GTI. Handling is well balanced and the power steering has great feel.
I like every little bit about this motor:
The seats are extremely supportive and comfortable for any length of journey, you can get a 6CD autochanger that sits in the boot and plugs straight into the fitted Clarion head unit for around £200, there's a little stalk on the steering column to change ...

Is the fuel gauge working was the first thing that came into my head after i had driven over 100 miles in my 306 turbo diesel.
This was one of the many suprises this great little car had in store for me over the next 2 years of owning her.
I paid some £5595 for her from a diesel specialist garage and i fell in love with her from day 1.
The car returns never less than 45mpg even over short stop start trips.
She is very fast being a turbo diesel ... ...even if you use this performance it still returns good mpg figures unlike some petrol cars.
The starting is first time every time provided you wait the 5 seconds or so for the pre-heating glow plugs to do their job.
She takes 5 adults comfortably and is able to take long trips in her stride.
The boot space is adequate for a couple of suitcases and with the rear seats folded the space is massive for a car of this size.
AN alarm and immobiliser ...

Advantages: Handling Disadvantages: Noisy, slow, uncomfortable, cramped, bad dealers
Initially, when I was told I was being given a 306 diesel estate as my company car, I was quite pleased. However, after many miles my opinion was becoming formed. Slow (needs the turbo - desperately), uncomfortable, cramped cabin, very noisy (even for an oil burner), and dealers who really do not seem interested all, have soured my experience of the car that is an essential part of my job (20k+ miles p.a.). The economy, which should be good with ... ...to make any progress. The company I work for has a fleet of these, and all of my colleague all feel the same way about this model. I've had a 306 diesel for more than 4 years now. Despite its compact size it has more room inside than any other car in its class. I challenge any car manufacturer to make a more comfortable spacious compact fimily car than the 306.
It is among the most frugal on fuel consumption, I get about 45 mpg on average, this includes town and fast motorway driving. This is far better than the equivilent petrol version.
The car handles well with the obligitory ...

Advantages: fun, quick, economical Disadvantages: brakes not as good as they could be ?
I've had my D Turbo for 18 months now after changing from my Citroen ZX (another good car). I'd moved to Diesel a few years ago after spending too much on petrol with my Golf GTi. The Citroen was a nice car to drive, but I wanted something with a bit more "poke". The D-Turbo is it ! It's quick, safe, reliable, has great handling and is economical.... what more do you want ?!?!?
I especially like the bucket seats and how comfortable yet supportive ... ...big enough for the shopping runs or carting about lawnmowers, even with two people in the back. It might take a bit of getting used to after driving a petrol car, but believe me, after a few months you'll get used to the difference and love it !
It can be driven as slow or as fast (within reason !) as you like and is more suited to twisty A and B class roads than the traffic light Grand Prix ! I just hope that when the time comes I can find something ...

Advantages: Cheap to insure, run, buy Disadvantages: 1.9 so fall outside cheap road tax!!
After receiving a slap on the wrist over a year ago for speeding (along with a hefty fine and point i may add) I decided it was time to trade in my spoty Honda Accord 2.0i for a sensible car. The words boring economical and Diesel(heaven forbid)sprang to mind when I thought of low insurance and running costs. ...I had to visit my Peugeot dealer to acquire a new mirror glass (having smashed the old one off a tree) I found them to be helpful and friendly. It only took a day to get the mirror repaired. I have subsequently broken it again!

...person, i can only praise, Peugeot for the service that i have received with my 306 1.9L Diesel.
The car is bought through the Mobility Scheme on Contract hire, it runs on air, i'm getting an average of 8-9 miles per litre of fuel.

The 306 has a justifiable reputation as a driver's car, which makes the popularity of the diesel option initially hard to understand. But it is a lively unit, with plenty of torque, and relatively free of the hi-rev breathlessness that afflicts most turbo diesels under acceleration. It comes into its own on the motorway where the high gearing makes for relaxed cruising, and the light pressure turbo provides quick acceleration when changing lanes. ... ...vibration. The handling is excellent, although the ultra-sensitive steering is not to everyone's taste. The car is also very practical (usefully large boot) and well specified - clever touches like the rain-sensitive wipers are particularly useful. The interior is a weak point, featuring as it does acres of cheap plastics and a fascia that dates from the Ark. The seats are also poorly padded, leading to back ache on long journeys. The car's greatest ...

...be familar with this particular Peugeot mainly because they look so damn awful, styling ? what styling. What is worth knowing is that they use the 1.9 XUD Diesel engine that until recently was the mainstay of the Peugeot range, and found in the 205, 309, 405, 106, 306, 406 and possibly others for all I know. Advantages: poor build quality, poor customer service, not cheap to run. Disadvantages: still the nicest looking car in its class, nice to drive
...the abismal attitude of both Peugeot dealers, and Peugeot UK. The car was bought brand new in December 1997, and has been back to the dealer some 40 times over the past 3 years whilst still in warranty, in the main for faults relating to poor build quality or exceptionally poor design faults.
