Advantages: Performance & Economy, goes round bends well Disadvantages: 'Small' family car, squeaky, doesn't clean itself
Model: 306 Hdi Dturbo
Manufactured: 1999 'V'
Purchased: Oct 2002
Mileage when bought: 36000
Current mileage: 50000
Performance
0 to 60mph & top speed are pretty irrelevant in these times of congestion & camera catchers, all the talk should be torque. This 90 bhp HDi engine has 167 lbft of torque which is more than a lot of ‘hot hatches’, & has different gear ratios in this model to the LX.
This basically means that it accelerates hard between ... ...for overtaking tractors, Sunday drivers etc. It also makes for a much more relaxed drive when you're not in a rush, & helps petrol consumption, as you can leave it in a higher gear than normal. My mpg has never dropped below 45 & have seen as high as 58 on a long run.
Handling
The DTurbo version of the 306 has running gear (with some mods to allow for the heavier diesel engine) carried over from the top of the range (at the time) GTi 6 so you can ...

Advantages: Fuel economic, Looks good, brakes well Disadvantages: Once hit never looks the same, parts are starting to go
When I got this car I was soooo impressed I said to the guy straight away: "ill have it" - he came down from scotland just to sell it to me! At the time I noticed it had a few accidents - half the panels were slightly out but it all shut fine and seemed ok. Nothing recorded HPi wise. It was reasonably modified when I got it first and I havent done much to it but i certainly wouldnt call myself a "rude boy" and certainly wouldnt call the car suiting ... ...windows, big back box, airfilter and used to have eyelids on it. The insides been treated to a dvd player neatly fitted to the dash with screens on both sunvisors and headrests for rear passengers. I installed my old Alpine headunit to replace the last Kenwood one but left the 12" twin Vibe subs n amp in the back.
When I bought it, it had full service history, spotless, nothing seemed wrong and the guy I got it from seemed a bit old to be a "boy ...

Advantages: Looks; Chassis; Reliability; Drivabilty Disadvantages: Can be a bit heavy on front tyres
...a delight - I don't Peugeot will ever beat the chassis of the 306. It truly is one of the best handling cars on the road, as well as being a comfortable ride.
You may have guessed by now that I really rate this car. When the car is washed and polished (which I do regulary!!), it looks absolutely superb. My only dilemma is what to replace the car with in the future. The 307 is a complete no-no IMO. The only suggestion my wife has said is a VW Golf, ...

Quick review of Peugeot 306 2.0 HDi
We bought our 306 HDi top of the range model with 40,000 km on the clock and only one year old. We have now had it for six very satisfactory years. It's comfortable and certainly economical at 5 litres per 100 km or 50 mpg. After three years we had an engine management fault when the fuel pump refused to start. A relay had stuck. The roadside correction is to connect battery plus to fuse No.30 to start, wait about 30 secs and the engine should run. But get the relay fixed ASAP. The HDi engine is amazing and the five speed gearbox splendid. ...

Advantages: Good Looks, Sport, Economy & Speed Disadvantages: Dated Dash
What a fantastic car. It goes like a rocket in every gear and stick it in fifth and you have a motorway mobile. I havew done many tanks off fuel and returned 550miles. What more can you ask for.
With sports suspension it handles well too. The features of this car include, rain sensitive wipers, alloys, fog lights, sports seats, sports bumpers, climate control. electric windows mirrors sunroof.
Even with a tuning chip added I stillr each 530 miles ...

Advantages: Good economy and performance Disadvantages: A bit basic and lacking in features
I have owned and driven a 306 HDI Estate for 4 years now and I have never been anything other than impressed. The car itself still looks good despite being 10 years old and it drives and handles well. The estate is so useful for carrying all osrts of things around including sports gear and beekeeping equipment. Interior wise the car is nothing special but at the smae point everything is still working so I have no complaints. The HDI engine is immense, ... ...me a consistent 55 miles to the gallon. Last year I looked at trading it in for a 307 estate but decided not to, the clean lines and sleek styling of the 306 simply are not there in the 307. This car has cost us very little over the years beyond the normal tyres, suspension and servicing. If youy can find a good one I really recommend it. Mine now has 170000 miles on the clock and is still going strong. ...

Advantages: Fuel ecconomy, space, comfort Disadvantages: trim rattles
I brought this car whilst still a student in Plymouth. Since then i have moved to Glasgow, over the course of a few long trips up the M5/6 and down through central France has shown great ecconomy. Its still good on long trips but gets a bit thirsty just pottering aroung town.
The boot is large and with the seats laid flat is more than enough space for most things. I've never had a problem getting stuff in and that includes moving out of halls and ...

Advantages: looks good, power. economical. quiet Disadvantages: poor sterio system
after three solid weeks of looking for a focus 1.8 ghia td, i notice out of the corner of my eye a sporty looking hatch with diesel written across the window. Being the responsible husband and father i turn to my wife, who is trying to cut our budget down by thinking 'diesel milage' is the answer to our financal problems and say "that looks ok" while secretly dying to get behind the wheel for a test drive. "Its a bit small" she replies, reminding ... ...7 mins and 35 secs later there we were with john the sale rep driving down the dual carrage way. I fell in love with this car after realising i was doing 70 when actually felling like about 50. my wifes face in the rear view mirror was telling me otherwise. after the test run i was the left with challenge of convincing her that even though it looked smaller than our bog standard escort, it would be big enough to fit in our maclaren turbo delux. i ...
