The car that started the "diesel revolution?"

Advantages: Reliable, Quite Quick, Good On Fuel, Class Leading Design in its day
Disadvantages: Starting to get a little dated, Electrical Faults, Noisy, Smokey in the cold!

...and everything is a standard Peugeot affair, with big round switches are the auxiliary circuits, large steering wheel, (mine is a pre-air bag model.) Funnily enough for a car of this age, there is an electric lilt and slide sunroof, with a "blind," extra map reading lights, electric front windows, adjustable steering column, column controls for the stereo, alarm mute switch and lumbar support for the drivers seat. This model also has a tachometer, ...
...it's a typical notchy Peugeot gearbox, and the momentum gained "on boost" can get a little wasted during the gear change, the ratio's and not particularly close, this is not to say it's a bad gearbox, this is unfair, its just not 100% matched to the engine, I believe it is a gearbox designed with a higher, and freer revving petrol engine in mind, which has been bolted onto an old diesel engine. However its an easy gearbox to use, and is very positive ...

Peugeot's diesel flier!

Advantages: Excellent handling and ride
Disadvantages: Beware abused high milers!

Car: Peugeot 306 1.9XLtd For: Excellent handling and ride Against: Beware abused high milers! Value: There are loads of these out there in the marketplace so prices are keen and there are bargains to be had. Costs: Fuel economy is pretty good at about 45 mpg and insurance and servicing costs are quite low. However the service interval on the earlier models is only 6000 miles so go for a later model when the interval was increased to 9000 miles. ...
...cars are best bought with a full service history. This is absolutely essential on turbo diesel models! There are also a few niggly faults sometimes. Driving: An absolute pleasure. This car handles very well indeed. The chassis and suspension are sublime leading to huge levels grip with a smooth and controlled ride. The steering is precise without being skittish and the breaks are good too. The whole package inspires great confidence in even the ...

306??? The BOY!

Advantages: Handling, styling and fuel economy.
Disadvantages: front tyre wear and turbo lagg.

...to get rid of my peugeot 106 1.5 xnd because it was my first car and very slow and looked like an old ladys shopping basket. I looked around for weeks to determine what car i would purchase next, then on 26th august 2003 i spotted a little sparkley 1.9Dturbo sitting all alone on a garage forcourt. The colour was Nile blue 17inch alloys half leather interior and i wanted it..... So i got it.. I have still got the car to this day and only replaced ...
...so good they just chew the rubber off the tyre walls. I have needed nothing doing to this car apart from the usual major service and m.o.t. The only problem i find with my car is turbo lagg in 3rd and 4th gears where the turbo does not seem to kick like in 1st and 2nd. I am thinking of buying a tuning kit to take it from 90 bhp upto 115 bhp which isnt much but should sort out the lagg. To be honest i love the 306 with its award winning handling ...

Peugeot 306 best car on the road

Advantages: Large interior, Economic, Quick off the mark
Disadvantages: Doesn't like the cold

The Peugeot 306 is the predecessor to the new 307. I currently own a Peugeot 306 1.9 Turbo Diesel. I have had this car for the past 4 years and have had no problems with it during that time. When anyone mentions the word diesel, the first things that come to mind are noisey, smelly cars that are really sluggish. I would usually agree, but this car is the exception. When you first sit in this car you would be suprised that a hatchback can be so ...
...start the engine and hear it purr.....although it isn't as quiet as a petrol it has been padded enough under the bonnet to reduce the engine noise a great deal. Now take it for a drive, the seating and view through all the mirrors is perfect, and you pass through the gears with ease. It's not until you hit the motorway that realise the full power behind this monster. As you increase speed the powerful engine pulls you along, 50, 60, 65 mph. You ...

Peugeot 306 XRDT - reliable but not the best

Advantages: Very, very reliable and fast
Disadvantages: Smokey!!! Plagued by electrical faults.

I've just parted with the 306 XRDT (L-reg) which I'd had for just over 2 years. I loved it to bits, but in the end the expense to maintain it and certain faults outweighed the positive aspects, so it had to go. When I got my car it had done loads of miles - when I sold it, it had 147500 on the clock! Despite that, it started every time - and never broke down once. The driving position was quite comfortable, it had a really good stereo for it's age, ...
...loved the fact that once it had hit that turbo you were OFF!!!! Cheap insurance was another plus. As were electric windows, roomy cabin and the fact that I could do about 400 miles to a tank. Now for the downfalls..... The power steering only worked sporadically - ie it ALWAYS worked when you took it to the garage, but as you were parallel parking in a really tight gap, it would suddenly go off! The alarm/immobiliser/remote key feature didn't ...

Who wants to buy my 306 D turbo?

Advantages: Has a good heater and is fairly economical.
Disadvantages: Where do I start?!?!

...ended up with a 1997 Peugeot 306 on my hands. It had only done 80,000 miles, so was a very low mileage car for me. Just to set the tone of this review in case you are short of time - I hate this car! Peugeot 306, how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways: 1. It just feels so cheap and flimsy; and is filled with rattles, squeaks. The whole car just feels and sounds like it is about to fall to pieces. Shut the door on most German cars and you get ...
...place; when I shut the 306 door, I am worried it will be like a clown car and just disintegrate. 2. The boot floods because of the poor design of the back light clusters. 3. The cage for the spare wheel is too big, so the wheel bumps around. 4. The gas struts on the boot are not strong enough any more to hold the boot open. 5. The heated rear window connection has snapped off of the glass. 6. The upholstery on the seats is too soft, so the metal ...

D Turbo... Yeah Baby!!!

Advantages: Great little car, economic and reliable, the turbo is excellent and great fun..
Disadvantages: Not the fastest of the lights! and a can be a bit smokey starting it first time in the morning.

Last year i purchased a second hand red D Turbo R Reg (98) The car cost me £6000 and had just under 50,000 miles on the clock. I was lucky the last owner was the Valeting manager from the garage. (Honest) It was in mint condition and it also had the timing belt changed at 40,000. I was impressed by the power this little car had, although off the lights it is not the fastest. However i did alot of mileage in this car most of it motorway driving, ...
...is obviously illegal!!!) Also i found the turbo great fun, it kicks in between 2000-3000 revs. I would definatley recomend this car for the above reasons, + being a diesel it works out very economic, if you do enough miles. Also this car is group 4 insurance, so for younger males and those on a budget its ideal. I actually prefer the shape of the D Turbo, to that of the new 307. My car has larger alloy wheels and a new JVC stereo and multi changer, ...

Quick review of Peugeot 306 D Turbo

306 dturbo not a bad car, goes well to be fair, i would say they are very unreliable on average i have a problem every week with mine, nice to drive and handles really well ( lowered 60mm) would have another one or possibly a HDI. All in all not a bad car ideal for a first car low insurance group and good MPG shame the tax is £100 for 6 months! ...

Quick review of Peugeot 306 D Turbo

I've had my DT 306 TD fro 10 years now. 76 000 on the clock and it just gets more rapid. Not a boy racer at town speeds inless you want to wear everything down quickly but on the open road especially uphill it'll show the big boys a thing or two. Where else would I return 50+ mpg in town and 62 outside? Oodles of power on the motorway where you need it. Torque remains the same throughout the rev range. When youve overtaken just take you foot off and slot back in! Watch out for electric devices going wrong and sunroof leaks. Not the easiest to manoeuvre in small spaces but otherwise a perfect drive. ...

Peugeot 309 1.9XLDT - Brilliant Purchase

Advantages: Easy to navigate, reliable and great on fuel consumption.
Disadvantages: Added extras not so reliable.

I have owned the Peugeot 306 1.9xldt for over a year now and i havent had any problems so far! Not once have i broken down or had to have repairs just the general servicing. The fuel consumption is something to be proud of, although it costs a hefty £86 now to fill the tank, i can travel the 297 miles fromnorfolk to south wales and back then commute to work for 2 weeks untill on the light then i get a further 82 miles on the light. The car itself ...
...has all the neccessary bits and pieces. The only thing i could complain about with this car is the egenral parts that come with such as the jack and associated tools. They have not been suitable when needed to change a tyre and are not of a good quality. Other than this i am very pleased with the purchase of this vehicle. ...

Peugeot 306 1.9 DTurbo - New Style

Advantages: Excellent Performance & Handling with Diesel Economy
Disadvantages: Cold Weather Start

First review on Ciao so bear with me! Purchased a 1 year old 306DTurbo in June 98 and still own it, although getting traded in for a more dog & family friendly vehicle next month. Over this preiod it has been used on a daily basis with minimal problems and has now done 82k miles. The running costs have been extremely low, for the 1st 4 years I owned it, the only repairs were for wear & tear items such as tyres and brakes. However, I have probably ...
...such as timing belt requiring changed at 72k miles and a leaking radiator. Only other real issue over the past year has been an occasional adversity to starting on really cold mornings up here in the North of Scotland but this was remedied with a new battery and couple of heating plugs. This also seems to have improved smoke when starting up The performance is comparable to a similar sized petrol car and the turbo kicks in when requied making over-taking ...

I find myself either turning my music up to a ridicoulous volume to hide them or holding/touching certain areas to stop it rattling. Overall, I am very impressed with this car. It is such a nice and comfy drive, which really handles well. I would buy another 306 D Turbo. ...

Outstanding car!!

Advantages: Power,looks and economy
Disadvantages: smokes a bit!!

I have now owned a 306 Dturbo sport model for almost a year and i'm glad to say I am yet to be dissapointed. Essentially I looked at it because it was handsome and very cheap to run, however after driving it I realised peugeot's lion was roaring under this bonnet, it flies, it handles, its quiet, its incredibly reliable and comfortable. If just driving short distances around a town for example you could expect to be making around 45 miles to the ...
...speeds in excess of the limit you may well see 55 or even 60mpg which quite frankly is amazing. In terms of comfort four people can happily drive half a day and get out feeling pretty good, five fit but it may start to become cramped. Fold down your rear seats and you can carry reasonably large loads I have in the past transported washing machines with not too much trouble. In a years ownership and about 10 thousand miles I have had to change 1 ...

Nice and quick

Advantages: Great nippy little car
Disadvantages: Pain with only 3 doors

Since this is only my second car i was shoked at how much power a little car had. Saying this that was probably because my first car was a 1.4 escort. With it's 1.9 D turbo engine it's nice and nippy, and the turbo kicks in at about 2500 rpm. Mine is an 97 R reg and comes with air conditioning and electric windows. It's a lovely ar and nice and small which means it's easier to park. It's quite cheap on the insurance as well which is a bonus. ...
...My only problem is trying to get my 18 month old daughter into her car seat. Beacuse it's a 3door i literally have to get in the car just to put her into her car seat. i didn't think of that whan i purchased it. It cost me 2000 12 months ago and i haven't spent a penny on it since so all in all it was a good buy. It's nice and smooth to drive but not to good in the wet. It does like to try and spin around a lot. ...

Good all round car, quick and economical.

Advantages: Quick for a diesel. when driven correctly can be very economical.
Disadvantages: Most have problems with knocking rear axles and drivers seat wear on high milage cars.

For a diesel this is a quick car. When the 306 d turbo first came out it was the quickest deisel around. Still keeps up with most cars today. The d turbo comes with a nice interior good seats that hold you round corners and yet they're still comfortable. Parts are resonably priced such as cv boots brake pads etc. For a diesel this car is low maintanence regurlar service and the cars fine, some older high milage vehicles tend to smoke a bit but thats ...
...space for a hatch back is very good, enough for me and my partner to take three large suit cases and a person with room. The 306's only down fall is the rear axle which in high milage cars tends to knock a bit, but this is just a bush which can be replaced for £20. The car handles well for a large 3 door. with not too much body roll and smooth over bumps. i would recomend a 306 too any one who appreciates a quick economical hatch back when they see ...
