Advantages Advantages A good, cheap clock radio

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not overly stylish, quite basic

One electrical item that I would be lost without is my digital clock radio which sits by my bed. I very often wake up in the middle of the night and have to know what the time is so a ‘glow in the dark’ clock is essential to me. For Christmas last year I received a Phillips AJ3112 Clock Radio. Obviously with this being a present I didn’t know how much it had originally cost, so for the benefit of this review I did a bit of research. The general price for this clock seems to be around £9.99, which shocked me as I had expected it to be more expensive than this. This clock radio is quite basic ... more

What came in the box The box was pretty basic with not many extra's you got the alarm clock with the lead and plug attached to it, then you had a pretty thin user manual and also a information leaflet in with a contact address enclosed. The user manual did only come in English which I found strange as they do usually come in a good few other languages. If I am honest though I found this pretty easy to set up and never used the manual anyway. Setting the time On top of the clock you have a number of buttons all of which are labelled for what they are. To set the time you need to press the clock ... more

Advantages Advantages reliable, cheap, clear LCD display, good radio reception

Disadvantages Disadvantages old fashioned? none for me

We bought this Phillips AJ3112 Clock Radio about six months ago for £9.99 from Argos. We were in search of a basic alarm clock radio and it seemed to fit the bill. It's a square looking clock, chunky but compact with dimensions of 13x13x5.6cm. The LCD display shows large green digits that are easy to read in the dark. It's a 24 hour clock and the lead is a decent length. As well as mains it can be used with a 9v battery. It came with an instruction leaflet which was easy to understand, but I'd say it's straightforward enough to not need one, although it did take me a few attempts to work out ... more

Advantages Advantages looks good, good sound quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I recently bought the phillips radio for around £10 and it does the job, it has all the expected features such as an am-fm tuner, alarm and clock, the unit itself looks very nice and well built and is a good size. The volume, tunning and band controls are on the right hand side and the display for the radio frequeny is at the top of the radio and is clearly visible in light. the radio has no problem picking up the stations and the sound is amplified loud and clear through the speaker situated at the top of the device, the clock displays green led and is clearly visible in the dark. the device ... more
