I did not have any intentions to buy a DVD player and it had never crossed my mind as I had a Sony PS2 which used to work fine but them one day I saw a offer in the news paper advertising a Philips Freeview adapter for £50 when you buy something for £50 so I browsed the website to find something useful and I came across this DVD and I went for it not really knowing what was in it.

BOX CONTENTS

i opened the blue and white Philips box and check the content this is what was included for the £80 I spent on it.
A Philips DVD625 DVD player
A Remote control and Philips branded batteries (who would have guessed it)
A GOLD PLATED scart lead and the stranded instruction manual and guarantee leaflet.

SETUP

Setting this DVD player was as simple as Putting the kettle on all that had to be done is one end or the scart lean in the back of the TV set and the other end into the DVD player and them just plug the DVD player into the mains and your ready to go.

FEATURES

I was really surprised when I found out what this DVD player is capable of i thought i was going to be a stranded REGION 2 DVD player and that’s it but when i read the book and browsed the simple menus i found out there way more to it.
This DVD player lets you play back Video CD's (VCD) and super video CD'D (SVCD) I though this was an extremely good feature as I had some personal family videos which I can now show guests on my big screen. It lets you play back MP3 CD’S this can be made with software like NERO this is basically where you can put about 300 mp3 song onto a CD and play them back in the DVD player. Also if you have a Kodak picture CD you can view the picture in a slideshow format which can entertain guests.

This DVD player is equipped with a screensaver so if the DVD player is left on and no DVD is loaded this could burn a permanent image on the TV screen but with the screensaver this is not the case as it has a black screen with the DVD video logo changing colour and bouncing on the walls.
this DVD player is also fitted with a "Virtual 3D surround sound" audio option which make it sound as if you are getting Cinema sound but only out of the stranded stereo speakers on you TV set this is great if you have not got a cinema sound system.
This DVD player has a zoom feature this allows you to zoom into a scene and see the great amount of detail also you can zoom out and make the screen smaller this is really useful when you play VCD's as the Quality is not as Sharpe as DVD's and SVCD's so by zooming out this makes it look a bit more clearer.

PLAYBACK

The DVD play back is excellent and looks very Sharpe this is also the case with SVCD'S and Image CD’S. VCD really do depend on what the quality is like when you upload it on you computer and put it on disk so for this the quality can vary. MP3 files sound good to.

VALUE

Considering the amount of features in this DVD player this DVD player is a must for any one and at £80 you need to have a good reason not to.

GENERAL

The design of the system in very sexy as it is super slim and very light, the style is nice as it curves at the bottom instead on have a right angle which also make it attractive sitting under anyone’s entertainment system. Also after searching the net I have found out a way to make this a region free DVD player with out opening or modifying it in any way also this method will not invalidate you warrantee all you have to do is open the CD tray and press 99990 the screen should then display region 0 this is to show that it region free. With this method you can change it back to region 2 by pressing 99992 please note that you can only change it up to 25 times on the 25th attempt it will lock to that region and you will not able to change it again so use the code at your own risk but I have to say I have used it and mine plays DVD’s from around the world with no problems. P.S I got this code from a Amazon site.

Sorry if this is to long but thanks for reading.

******UPDATE******

After 3 months of little use my DVD player has sadly died as it not longer played DVD movies but it played everything else fine so i reterned it for a refund as a replacement could not be issued as they had no more in stock.

Advantages: Plays All Formats.........Ridiclous Low Price Now...
Disadvantages: None Really

This little slimlne beauty was bought on impulse whilst Xmas shopping in Boots last year Well sort of.. We have a Sony SLV-900 as our main unit in the lliving room, which is combi unit of DVD/Video. Which to be honest,we have never been really happy with. Sony have fallen from grace in our household. So we were on the lookout for another unit and came across this Philipps DVD 625 at the then low price of £89:99. We read the box and could not ...
...our very expensive Sony. This Phillips DVD 625 plays everything.. CD CD/R CD/RW DVD DVD/R DVD/RW MP3 JPEG MPEG VCD SVCD I was half expecting in to have a Cash Dispenser too . So it was taken home lifted out of it's box and plugged in. So easy to set up. So easy to use.. Simple remote control Easy On Screen Displays Slimline as you could really want. 10 minutes later and its up and running perfectly and has been ever since. It ... Read review

Dvdtastic!
Review of Philips DVD625 by NataliePhelan

Advantages: slim, compact, cheap
Disadvantages: None!

The Philips dvd625 was bought as a christmas gift for my partner, only because it was on special offer at £45 in Boots when you spent over £40 on other items, at the time (December 2003) it was £90 everywhere else. The player is silver effect and is the smallest and most compact dvd player that ive come across. It came with a remote control and is very simple to use. It has the feature of re starting a dvd where you last left it, for those times ...
...that you can come back to the same place later without having to mess about searching for the place you were at. There are only 4 buttons on the front of the player itself and with these 4 buttons you can control the player completely, theres the standby/on button, a play button, a s top button and the open/close button for the dvd tray. The player automatically finds the correct channel so that you dont have to change your tv yourself and its very ... Read review

It does what it says on the Box!
Review of Philips DVD625 by grahamdavidcook

Advantages: Plays anything you put in it!!!
Disadvantages: The multiplier stays on screen (zoom mode)

This one of 3 DVD players in our household and this is the one that sits proudly in the living room, the 2 previous occupiers of that prime position are now safely tucked up in my childrens bedrooms. This DVD is tiny when compared to its predecessors and is increadably thin (actual size is 34 x 4.3 x 28.5cm). It is Silver in colour as most Home entertainment equipment is nowadays. It plays every format you can imagine DVD +R/RW, DVD -R/RW, CD ...
...handy feature is the 5 disk bookmark, the DVD remembers at what point you are if you stop a DVD and resumes play from that point, The DVD Player not only remembers the position on the current disk but the previous 4 disks you have played. It outputs in Dolby Digital and sounds great through surround sound. The only fault I can find is the stupid x2 appears in the top right if you zoom in, as we have done in the past on some of these cinema screen ... Read review

An excellent DVD player with no major flaws
Review of Philips DVD625 by ASA5044

Advantages: Slim and compact, reliable, easy to use
Disadvantages: Limited connector

I've had my DVD625 for over 15 months and it is still performing as well as it did when it came out of the box. Setup is very, very easy. You only have to plug the scart socket into the player and your TV, plug it into the mains, oh and put the batteries into the remote and that's it. Anytime you turn it on, it automatically it comes up on your TV. This is why my selections on picture and sound quality is just good as I honestly not sure. At less ...
...it will fit on any shelf or media cabinet. The remote is to the point and the options menu can be used without reading the instructions. I cannot comment on quality as I have a 12" TV, however even through the 'primitive' screen, it looks excellent. The only real problem you get with any players of this price is the lack of connectors. This applies to this DVD-player as well, it only has a scart socket and stereo output. This DVD player is simple ... Read review

Philips DVD625
Review of Philips DVD625 by jgclifton

Advantages: Very Good Design
Disadvantages: Top of player easily scratches.

When i purchased this player it was around £100, and i'd still be willing to pay that now. This dvd player looks as good as it works. The remote control is small, but very functional. This baby will play anything you throw at it including VCD's, SVCD's and MP3 cd's. This was the main selling point of the machine for me. This machine is very easy to install - just plug a scart lead in the back and your ready. Another great feature of this machine ...
...all the latest DVD's months before they are out in the UK! No you can't complain at that. This player certainly looks the business and is very slimline. It can also take alot of weight on top so it can be nicely stacked. The player just seems to have a great build quality - you dont think for a minute that it would ever go wrong. The drive used on the player is very good, you could probably rest a mug of tea on it without it snapping - its that good. ... Read review
