Philips DVDR 3380

This is a nice one from Philips. There are one or two minor niggles and I'll get to them later. Plug it in and run the auto setup, it will find all available channels but if like me and your main aerial is cable then it will not sort the channels in the right order. don't worry as its easy to swap them about by using the navigation buttons on the remote. Once all the setting up is done with scart leads and audio leads or whatever, its time to pop ...

...recording could be better if Philips had of used a step by step wizard like Liteon do. You can't delete individual programmes on RWs (liteon could) only erase whole disc, so if you still haven't watched 1 programme but want to make space to record something you cant and have to use another disc. All in all a good buy, so much so that I bought my father one who's been waiting for HDD recorders to become more affordable. He's pleased with the DVDR3380 ...

...with the recording problem with Philips brand 4x+RW discs. Having had some prior experience with PC drives, I logged onto the Philips website (search for 'P4C' ) and burned the firmware update for this recorder onto a CDRW. After updating the set, it was able to record onto the philips discs! It also seems to be able to record on most minus format discs and a few +RDL discs. Video and audio quality is OK. Build quality is OK. Remote is uncluttered ...

This DVD recorder is a nice slim line unit and has divx playback. Throughout the time we have had it, it has been very reliable and easy to use. Occasionally it doesn't play certain divx files but on the whole it plays most, it also plays MP3 files and JPEG files. It has the ability to record and erase re-recordable dvds. Hi All I was looking at all the reveiws for phillips and was suprised with some of them as phillips has come a long way in the dvd world. This player is the nuts, point blank i am very happy that i brought this product so i will say a little more- I used to spend hours and hours downloading films and TV series but not no more!!!! Generally a good value product. You can choose from SLP, EP, HQ and SP for recording modes. You can get up to 6 hours of programmes on a single DVD+RW using SLP (Super Long Play) and the quality is always excellent. The recorder has two scart connections which allows you to record from both your sky and terrestrial TV. You can of course play DVDs and you can change region easily if required. In addition you can play DIV-X movies through it. Recording ...
...recording if you want to exclude adverts. The great thing ive also found is that formatting the disc is easy and only takes less than a minute. There are even editing funtions which allow you to"split" a recording ie in case you left it to record for too long.
