Advantages: Very reasonably priced, Has many features that exist in more expensive models, High quality product Disadvantages: Odd remote, Only in silver
...right price.
My new acquisition the Philips DVD711 DVD Player is no exception.
At just £189 this beauty is pure value for money. It provides you with almost the full potential of the DVD experience for a fraction of the cost of other DVD players boasting the same specifications.
As is required I will first go through some of the important specifications.
This player is capable of playing not only DVD but also Video CD (VCR’s) and ...

Advantages: Sleek and 'virtually silent' during use...too many features to mention Disadvantages: It would be unfair of me to say anything bad!
I thought long and hard before I purchased this DVD player from PHILIPS.
I weighed up all the pros and cons and the ins and outs and the advantages and disadvantages.I didnt just go for the cheapest machine either...for that would have been the easy way out.
The first thing that cought my eye was the beautiful 'sleek' look of the machine (Silver-grey/black) and the increddible 'quietness' of its opperation..as was kindly demonstrated to me, by the ...

Advantages: Good make, Looks good Disadvantages: Poor remote control, lacking looks and features
Unlike most reviewers who are pleased with Phillips, I was dissapointed with this DVD player. The remote is awful and lacks fuctionality - it doesn't even open the DVD tray!!!!! This is a shame because the actual unit looks pretty good, and unlike many DVD players, it has two scart sockets allowing you to hook it up to your TV and your existing Video! Playback was very good, however it struggled with special features on a few DVD's, and further still, ...

Advantages: Excellent Quality, Functionality and Price Disadvantages: Runs a little Hot
Considering this Player costs under £200 in most stores, it is positively packed with features. It is simple to install and configure, and a dream to use.
The DVD-711 is among the few 'budget' DVD Players to have two SCART sockets, a feature which many other sub-£200 players lack. Add into the bargain S-VHS Output, Optical Digital Audio Out, Coaxial Digital Audio out, Sterio Out, and Composite Video out, it is an absolute bargain.
The DVD Functions ...

Advantages: Zoom, Good Looking, Digital & Optical Outs Disadvantages: Remote Control Too Small
This is the new Phillips DVD player to replace the clunky old 710 that had the drive noise fault. It looks far better and the drive is centre mounted.
The graphics menu is updated to that of the 750 and includes 3D Surround Sound from just two speakers. Sound and picture quality are excellent and it has a good parental control system.
This new model has picture zoom, DTS & Truesurround. Unlike the old 710 it has both optical and digital outs.
Compatability ...

Advantages: Dual laser which will play ANY discs Disadvantages: None found yet
I was badgered into getting a DVD player mostly by my kids, so I set them a challenge: If you can find a DVD that will play not only DVD/CD but CD re-writeables for under £200 then we'll get one. I sat back smugly waiting for them to draw a blank. Luckily they found the 711. It's good to look at and easy to set up / use. I chose the black finish to match the VCR and telly but I believe it's available in a silver finish as well. It has a dual laser ...

Advantages: easy to use, quality of build is high Disadvantages: design flaw with sound
After hearing many horror stories about Philips' CD players, I was very hesitant to buy this DVD player.
But after having it for a couple of weeks, I must say the Dutch electronics giant delivered a very overall pleasing player at a very competitive price.
The only thing keeping me from giving it a higher rating is the design flaw that causes the sound output to decrease by roughly 50% when resuming play after having switched from fast-forward to ...
