Advantages: Great quality on picture and sound and easy to use Disadvantages: Have to watch the channel you are recording if from a cable channel
...and chose to purchase the Philips DVDR3480.
The player in terms of style is very sleek - it has a black finish on the cover wih the dvd slot on the left hand side and the display bit next to this. On the far right hand side is a small flap that covers the ports for the usb, audio and the connections for the scart to connect to a games console or camcorder. To install is very simple with a quick set up guide supplied in the box - the only thing is ... ...from USB flash drives
Philips DVD Recorders support 'dual media'™ recording - the ability to create recordings on DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R DL discs. Now you can buy any disc and the Philips 'recorder will always create fully compatible recordings, which can be played by any DVD player.
We haven't had the chance to try out such things as connecting a camcorder to check the quality of this feature but have used the USB port to view pictures taken ...

~ Philips 3480 DVD Recorder ~
We already have a Philips DVDR70 recorder which I have reviewed. It was the great service we've had from this machine that helped me decide on buying this latest DVD recorder.
Our other Philips Recorder is still going and is still being used, but we wanted a couple of other options from our player, and are also very aware that the present recorder was now around 4/5 years old! So we thought it ... ...I've said, having got a Philips DVD recorder that is now around 4/5 years old and still going strong, it made the choice even easier for us. ~ What does it do then? ~ Well, playback is fairly standard for most machines but with the added bonus of DivX as mentioned. So to list it properly:
It plays - DVD's, DVD+R or RW, DVD-R or RW, DVD+R DL (Dual Layer), CD and SVCD.
The multi-format ability also allows you to play most file formats that hold media ...

Advantages: Excellent Playback Quality, Recording and Easy! Disadvantages: Zoom doesn't go away with the clear button, a little expensive
...was origionally looking for a Philips DVD Player but decided "why not get a recorder instead to replace the old VCR?", so i set off to the shops, went in ASDA and seen this stylish little machine on the shelf, picked it up and went to the till to purchase it!
It only cost £98 ;-)
::::SETTING IT UP::::
The Words "Easy Peasy" comes to mind when setting up this Recorder/Player. The manual isn't at all confusing (although it doesn't state how long ... ...you can ring Philips if you really want to find out!).
Switch off all your equitment, choose a connection mehthod (i went for Scart from Sky Box into The Recorder and then from Recorder to TV), then set it up using the on screen instructions and wooolah! Your Done!
Ready to watch DVD's and Record.
::::CONNECTIONS::::
It has 2 Scart Sockets (For connecting to the device you'll be recording from and into the TV), component and other connections ...

Advantages: Looks good, Loads of features Disadvantages: Expensive, Quite big
I bought this product a few days ago and I thinks its brilliant. In terms of the looks its stylish, and sleek. Not only you can you watch DVD in HD but also you can pause live TV, record it on its 160 gig hard drive and store photos and videos. For the price I feel it was a little too much. I paid £140 at Sainsbury. But looing at sources you can get it for much less (£80 - £100)
I would reconmend this product to anyone who likes whatching TV and ... ...a hifi. It is east to set up, just connect the two wires (included) to the back of the TV. Next you just follow the simple instructions to add channels. You can also add VCR players and also a Top Up Box. All of the things to make this product work is inclueded even the bays for the remote.
So what are you waiting for! Get buying ...

Advantages: good picture quality Disadvantages: buggy, unresponsive, interferes with terrestrial picture
...stops recording after 30 minutes (or whatever). I suspect this is connected to it trying to fit with previously recorded spaces., but whatever the reason it's annoying and wastes time (mine and the disc's).
Not impressed and just contacted Philips about my disatisfaction with the item.
Hope this helps. ...
