...over time. I phoned Philips for advice - they confirmed that no descaling should be necessary...but tell that to the dirty brown sludge that spat out every time I tried to iron something.
So, ultimately, the iron got louder and louder (a downside of steam generators) and the performance got worse and worse, until finally, I just couldn't put up with the dripping heap of rubbish any more!

Advantages: Steam Disadvantages: Size, performance and features
My experience of this type of steam machine is mostly negative. This iron has several disadvantages: firstly it is big and bulky, think about where you will store it and if you have to move it to do your ironing. I have not found an advantage for having so much steam, it may last longer if you are constantly using the steam setting, but it doesn't iron any better. I have to disagree with the person who was very negative about this 'iron', I can only say you simply do not iron! I have been ironing for 30 years and this is by far the best I have ever used and will continue to use, walks all over my previous normal steam irons, and it is going to be larger as it is a steam generator not an iron!!
