...eventually decided upon was the Philips Senseo - a fine looking pod based machine that sounded easy to use, simple to clean and the pods were not overly expensive but were readily available. Advantages: Makes a top notch brew Disadvantages: Refills can be a bit pricey
I am a lover of proper coffee I don't really like freeze dried although if forced (dying of thirst and there is nothing else) I will drink it. However my wife decided she was going to get me a present that I would really appreciate for my last birthday, she is quite clever at things like that. How she came upon the idea of one of these I shall never know, but what a great idea it was.
The principle of these machines is very simple, the coffee comes ... ...less exactly like your run of the mill percolator, in principle that is. The great thing going for it in my humble opinion is mainly that you don't have to constantly clean it. There are no separate filters to buy and you don't end up with coffee powder everywhere. This is beside the fact that you get a much superior tasting coffee at the end of the whole process with a nice creamy head. Plus you don't have to bother with all that measuring out how ...

...coffee lover.
-Appearance
The Philips HD7810/60 comes in silver and black colours, both well finished and a great addition to any kitchen. It includes a metallic drip tray. The machine is curvy with no jagged edges and will fit into just about any kitchen style. -Use and Features
The machine has a removable jug for water which is labeled for single and double cup use, and will require refilling after each cup, although this is a bit of an annoyance, ... ...much water as it needs. I have found however that this can start to leak with repeated use.
The machine comes with 2 removable 'pod' holders which clip into the machine securely, these of course are dishwasher safe and with save your fingers from being burnt trying to remove the pod.
At the front of the machine there are only 3 buttons, the centre button 'quickboil' heats the water, with a flashing light. When the water has boiled the light becomes ...

...eye. Of course, it's Philips and that's a very well known and trusted name, so I'm sure it will last me for many years. All in all, a solid four stars and recommended for anyone who likes to make a single or two single cups of non-instant coffee without going to all the trouble of using your big filter coffee maker or your messy café press. Thanks for reading.

Advantages: Can't really think of any Disadvantages: It makes bad coffee
I should warn you all now that I am a coffee crazed madman and that this device was a birthday gift.
Looking at this device you can get some information about the quality of coffee it will produce quite easily before you try its coffee.
Producing coffee at a of pressure of 10bar (10 times atmospheric pressure) is rather low for an espresso machine. This means that it will produce less rounded coffee that relies on the brute force of its overall ... ...produce less well rounded coffee than the 19bar machine I also own, in comparison the espresso is feeble.
Espresso should be made using water at 92degrees C, this machine boils the water and burns the coffee. This is not a good thing. Espresso should not just taste bitter and be filled with caffeine. It uses a 1.475kW filament to heat the water, this is less than your average kettle. The other down side is that the device doesn't produce steam for ...

Advantages: Yummy coffee and very stylish!! Disadvantages: Coffee Pods are a bit pricey, as was the machine itself!
I first saw the Philips Senseo Coffee machine advertised on TV. It was round about Christmas time and I was stuck on ideas of what to get my Mum and Dad who seem to have everything going!!
The colour and style of the machine originally attracted my attention - the blue colour goes perfectly with my parents kitchen!! Of course this was not the only reason to be attracted to the machine. With promises of freshly brewed creamy coffee, I decided to ... ...machine is quite large but fits into a surprisingly small space (it is not too wide and relatively tall so fits in a narrowish gap!). It is sleek looking and really does look great. It's available in a few different colours -blue, black and white! It's easy to clean with dishwasher safe removable parts.
Is it worth the money?
At £49.99 (from Argos), I certainly think so (if you like coffee of course!!) - the coffee is really yummy and has that ...

Senseo has created a sleek looking machine, with a wide range of coffee pods to accompany the experience that should suit most coffee addicts. I have friends who swear by Rocket Fuel in the morning, who have now switched to the Sumatra blend available here, as their morning fix!
Personally, I prefer a middle blend, and the Vienna or Sydney provides this fix very well indeed!!!
Now, onto the mechanics of this machine, where initially ...

Advantages: Lovely tasting coffee in a minute Disadvantages: make sure the coffee bags are placed properly
As an avid Coffee drinker, my husband bought this for me.
The coffee from this machine is lovely and frothy. You can but all strenghts of coffee bags to fit his machine, so the taste suits each and every coffee drinker, from dark strong coffee to mild everyday coffee. You have the option of a one cup coffee or a two cup coffee which means you can place two cups below, I cheat though anf press two and place a mug underneath as one cup is not enough ... ...very easy to operate, you basically fill the water container at the back and clip it in place, you then lift the lid and place either one bag or two inside, you have two different holders for these, one to take one bag and another to take two, you the literally shut the lid, press the on button and a red light flashes intermittedly until the water has heated for your coffee, you then just place you cup/cups under the machine and select the one or ...

Advantages: Quick to use Disadvantages: Noisy, small water reservoir
Philips have the design of this coffee maker down to a tea. It looks great in any kitchen.
Its so easy to use, just get a pod, fill up the reservoir and in hardly anytime at all you have a steaming hot mug of coffee
So why then does the novelty wear off so soon.
It is just a hassle. The water hold just enough for two batches so if you have a large family or in a rush it ain't often that quick
The machine drips long after you have got you have ... ...much more than necessary.
The pods are still not widely available so don't bank on being able to get a regular supply

Advantages: Simple to use, very little mess Disadvantages: Pods can be expensive. Water can collect under the machine
...what flavours you like - Philips do a "tasting" selection which helps but I would suggest trying the pods by using them as tea-bags. Because of the way that the coffee is compressed within the pods it is sometimes necessary to "steep" the pod for a while but the results work very well.
Before making any coffee make sure that you have a mug that fits under the spout on the machine and also holds the double cup. The single serving looks great in a ... ...you will need to use two pods.
Ebay auctions give access to the full range of accessories such as cups. frothers, storage tins etc., and even has the odd machine at a low price.
Senseo also now produces a tea-bag, milk and all sorts of "weird" items that might add to your experience but probably will not change the taste of the coffee.
All in all a great machine and, provided you have the storage space to buy in bulk, the coffee can be quite cheap. ...

Advantages: quick and easy to use, attractive looking Disadvantages: price depending on where purchased from
I received one of these machines for christmas.
What does it do
It makes one or two cups of black coffee. The coffee has a crema layer on the top (bit of froth). The pods for the machine come in various strenghts from mild to strong. The machine I got was supplied with a bag of medium strength. The cups it makes a quite small. I tend to use the two cup option which makes one mugful.
When you first get the machine you have to charge it by filling ... ...ready to go. YOu can fill the water dispenser with enough water to do 5 cups. It is very quick at heating up only 30 seconds. You then put in a coffee pod (like a teabag) if you want two cups you use the two cup pod holder and two pods. Then press the button for either one or two cups and hey presto hot coffee. I dont have milk in my coffee so it is fine for me. I dont know what would happen to the frothy layer if you added cold milk. With regards ...

Advantages: quick, easy, and delicious coffee Disadvantages: coffee pods can be expensive
As a big drinker of coffee i thought it was about time i purchased a decent coffee machine, so off i went down to Argos after a bit of research and bought myself a senseo coffee machine. I had heard good things from a number of sources and was eager to try it out.
So i got home and unpacked the machine and in a matter of five minutes i was sat down enjoying a cup of extremely tasty coffee!
But anyway just going back a few steps the coffee machine ... ...one and two cup filter which fits either 1 or 2 coffee pods depending on the amount of cups required, the machine has to initially be purged with water to clean it out this is however a very simple process and is completely automated.

Advantages: Easy to clean, quick to heat-up and pleasing design Disadvantages: Small height available for mugs, limited availability of blends in some supermarkets
This is a great low-cost instant coffee machine. I really enjoy using it and over the last few months have noticed a bigger range of pods becoming available, with Tesco even offering their own-branded ones. The taste is very good but the height of the machine means only medium to small cups can be accommodated. I bought some Jamie Oliver 'Snug Mugs' as these were the perfect size for the coffee delivered. The machine is very easy to keep clean too ... ...You can leave the water in the machine for up to three days before having to replace it. I find on a full 'tank' I get four cups of coffee. The Cappucinno is very good but again watch the size of mug used given the small height available. The machine is quick to heat up too so you'll be enjoying great tasting coffee in no time! But if you are very serious about your coffee, you really need to be spending a lot more on a more advanced machine. This ...

I am very impressed with the senseo machine i love it to pieces It works very well and the coffee is gorgeous. great taste and nice professional looking froth on top. Yes you cant fit tall cups in, but there are many mugs available that do fit. Advantages: Quicker than a filter machine Disadvantages: coffee not really hot
This machine is quick and easy to use which makes it much better than a filter machine. The lift off parts where the cups sit make it easy to clean and the parts are dishwasher proof.

The pods can be a little treicky to place in the amchine and if you do not get it spot on the machine leaks hot water every where.
