This is a great little phone for those of you who don't need a big fancy Nokia. This has all the features of the Nokias except you can't create your own ringtone or play games. That isn't such a big deal. It cost me £29.99 and you get a lot for your hard earned money.
The phone itself is very neat. It is less than 6 inches long and weighs only 150 grams. The colour clearly varies because the picture shows a yellow phone but mine is described as ... ...right size to press easily and quickly and the compass, menu, cancel, call and on off buttons are all very well placed to make it seen natural to use them. The screen layout is excellent. It always displays a handy clock on the left of the screen with the battery 4 segment indicator above it. Moving right from the battery indicator are message, answerphone, silent mode indictor and roaming indicators. They are all very easy to see. The next two indicators ...

Advantages: Good price, Choice of ringtones, Vibrate/Silent modes, Sms icons, Good battery life Disadvantages: Can't download ringtones/icons
You can assign a PIN code to prevent unauthorised people using your phone, and better still, you can assign a second PIN for someone who is borrowing your phone - the purpose of this being that when they enter the second PIN, they may only dial out specified numbers, preventing overuse of your phone (and hence your bill!).
As well as the usual phonebook facility, you have the option of voice dialling a few of the numbers - instead of searching for ... ...the search feature), you can speak into the mic and when it compares the recording with stored ones, the phone dials the number as appropriate... quite useful when you can't use both hands to find a number (eg on the train) or when you are a little worse for wear at the end of a night out and can't work the handset very well!
There are a few ringtones to choose from, with varying volumes, plus a vibrate feature, meaning that you can be alerted to ...

Advantages: its resistant to the elements to an extent Disadvantages: its pretty crap really its the price that appeals
...where do i start. The philips savvy has some very useful and fairly interesting features and there are also an equal amount of bad features along side these never the less i will try my best to tell you them and you can decide for yourselves the verdict.
The first thing i should point out is the price of the product which is fairly modest in my eyes which is good. i got it for roughly thirty five pounds and this came with the simcard, a charger ... ...wrong there price wise. The screen is small and is slightly sunken into the phone itself to give slightly more protection from scratches ehich leads me onto my next point about how resillient to the elements this contraption is. my freind used to have one of these and the amount of crap it went through was umbelievable. it was left on a garden lawn for half of a very damp night and the only major problem was the speaker which was a little distorted ...

Advantages: Great price, many useful features, good sound Disadvantages: Menu, looks yesterday
...of view of ergonomics in Philips Savvy there is nothing especial: rounded forms, conveniently lies in a hand, is rather successful the parity of a mass and dimensions is selected. Despite of rather small on modern concept display, the information on it is read without difficulties. From three lines two are really used for navigation only, third - line of indicators. However optimal font, animation of scrolling of the menu and the nice illustrating ... ...management.
On a control system of the telephone it is necessary to stay especially. An a little bit exotic disposition of a key "Оk" - on the lower arrow of a wheel, and also scrolling the menu on a horizontal in first some seconds call some bewilderment, but then it becomes clear, that it not only is original, but also it is convenient. In addition to this I shall mark, that all main functions (voice set, notepad, input in the menu, loudness ...

Advantages: Small, solid and easy to use Disadvantages: Not many of extra features
This handset came as part of the package for BTCellnet Pay and Go service. As time went by I got tired of my large and bulky Siemens handset plus most of my friends seem to go for BT Cellnet service, so I decided to buy one myself. The choice in Carphone Warehouse was very much straightforward: expensive Nokias stayed on shelf, flimsy and cheap Ericsons did not have a chance, only this phone was perfectly right. In fact, it felt right in the hand!
... ...compact and sits in the hand as it is growing from it. Not heavy, not bulky it, however, looks and feels solid and capable of enjoing a good long life. And I am not a person who protects mobiles from all the eventualities of life. Therefore I am going for solid and durable items. This is the one!
Installation and use. Installation - piece of cake. Easy and straightforward. The use of the handset is very simple. The main menue feels quite logical. ...

The security menu has all the usual options for changing your pin. While the settings has the voicemail, box number, broadcast, key tones (swtich on/off) and ringer selections. Advantages: Could withstand a lot of knocks, and very good signal everywhere even abroad Disadvantages: Severe lack of features, ugly design and a small screen
I recieved the DB as a Christmas present in December 2000, my first ever phone so you can imagine I was a little pleased. I'm going to be fair with this review. It may be a terrible phone now, but back then it was acceptable in a few ways. Even though it was still pretty much obsolete to many models at the time, it still had some strengths.
This has to be one of the durable phones of all time. It had the strength and endurance of a brick. One time ... ...some flights of stairs to the bottom floor. It didn't even make a scratch and hadn't even switched off my phone. It lasted me just over a year before it started to develop serious errors. The DB would eventually start to freeze all the time and became too unreliable to use. So, its lifetime was around a year.
The look and feel has to be a major down point. Its not a model that you could whip out and show off. Like above, it was designed like a brick, ...

Advantages: Voice recognition, great value Disadvantages: Call performance is a bit muffled
The Savvy weighs in at 146g with battery. Most of the phone's functions are controlled using a four-way rocker button. The phone makes heavy use of graphical icons. I bought my Phillips Savvy under a year ago on the Virgin network, before that I had an Ericsson PH 388 (One2One0 and a Sagem RC 815(Vodafone).
From my experience with different handsets, I can hand on heart inform others that the Phillips Savvy DB is the best phone I have used so far.
If I went through in detail about its good features i would probably run out of space on this form so here is a lit of my favorites:
Voice Dial (easy to record, ... ...SMS text icons (good idea, and is better than keying in :) or :( etc)
Clock, calculator, stopwatch, biorhythm, alarm (all very handy)
Diverse ring tones (would suit any kind of user)
Easy to use/search phone book (Good for technophobes)
Speed dial that doesnt depend on phone book position (Good idea)
Robust and strong (Im always dropping it and it has never broken)
Gool call clarity and reception with EFR (Always good in loud or remote places)

Advantages: vibrati8ng device, dual-band feature, alarm clock Disadvantages: dim illumination when using at night, but still readable.
I bought this mobile and not an ordinary "C12/Savvy" for a reason - it VIBRATES!! Whenever someone calls you, or sends an SMS (Short Messenging Service), this mobile vibrates! Perfect for alerting you in the middle of any meeting, or at the cinema, or the like. But it is also perfect for me as I am deaf. I use this mobile solely for SMS as a sosphisticated "two-way" pager system, for communicating with other deaf friends of mine. Disavantages: The display is a bit dim under low light (night time - but it's isn't that bad really as it's STILL readable), no sleep mode with alarm clock, LIMITED design facia (Nokia has hundreds of case designs) - but it doesn't bother me cosmetically! Bought this mobile for £49.99 at "The Link", a subsidiary company of Dixons. ...

I bought a Virgin Phillips Savvy because I neeeded a phone which was lightweight, had long battery life, small, and discrete.
It fullfilled all my expectations and I ended up buying another one for my girlfreind.

Advantages: cheap, easy to use Disadvantages: bulkier than newer models
The Savvy Dual Band not only looks cool but also is very useful. It's not the smallest or the lightest mobile on the market, but it's still lighter and less cumbersome than the Nokia 3210, for example. Its attractive blue casing looks impressive, especially with its metallic marbling, and its features make it suitable for everyone.

Advantages: Simple interface, very cheap. Disadvantages: hardly packed with features
ok so its a bit dated now but if you want a cheap, basic mobile phone with none of the expensive frills and thrills of the new generation then why pay more than you have to? It phones and it texts, thats about it im afraid. No games, no picture messaging, no video footage, no clourful display just a good old telephone which isn't attached to a phone line.
