5 Stars Anyone for Pimm's? Review with images 07/05/2004
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Drink that evokes memories of summertime

Disadvantages Disadvantages Surprisingly potent - rather expensive

Don't you just love those Pimm's adverts we've had on the TV for the last couple of years? Alexander Armstrong plays the upper class twit with the picnic hamper containing his Pimm's mixing kit. He encounters a variety of different groups including motorway protesters, prostitutes, farmer workers and rave DJ's and every advert ends with him crying "one of me - four of you - I make that Pimm's O'Clock". ** BUILDING UP A THIRST ** The Pimm's tradition is now as well established within British culture as cups of tea, cucumber sarnies and Chicken Tikka. At the first sign of a heatwave, all the ... more

Advantages Advantages A long, cool summer drink

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't forget it is alcoholic!

Picture this if you will: - A warm summers evening, birds singing in the trees, bees dancing around brightly-coloured flowers, conversation with good friends, laying back in a comfortable chair, and to top it all of, a tall cool glass of Pimm’s and Lemonade in your hand. The liquid, the colour of nectar enhanced by summer fruits, and ice floating gently in it, sits patiently in a cool jug on the table until you are ready for a refill. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Occasionally, as a summer treat, my friends and I have treated ourselves to Pimms and Lemonade. This always seems quite decadent to me ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fruity and refreshing

    Disadvantages Disadvantages "Exclusive" image

Would you believe that there does not seem to be an official website for Pimm's? I was astonished. (There is a UK consumer e-mail address on the bottle: response@pimmsinfo.com, but typing www.pimmsinfo.com into your browser won’t get you anywhere – I tried it.) Anyway, according to the bottle; “James Pimm opened his first Oyster Bar in the City of London in the 1840’s and supplied Londoners with good food and a unique drink which became famous as PIMM’S ® No. 1 Cup. PIMM’S ® is still based on the original recipe which remains a closely guarded secret known ... more

Advantages Advantages pre-mixed Pimms is very convenient for a picnic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Make it yourself for something with a definite kick to it

I remember my parents serving Pimms at their various drinks parties in the summer months during my childhood and remember the dark brown stuff being quaffed with assorted bits of apple, cucumber, borage and mint leaves floating in it. I started hitting the Pimms at Uni – barmy summer days in Scotland post exams were meant to be spent on the beach quaffing Pimms. Little did I realise that the stuff used to be a lot more potent than the emasculated stuff that appears nowadays. In the good old days, before I was a glint in the milkman’s eye, the stuff used to weigh in at 37% a.b.v. or so, before ... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty, handy, great summer drink

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Pimm's o'clock!! Ahh, nothing sums up a great British summer like a Pimm's. Considering we haven't had much of a summer I haven't had too many Pimm's this year but as the weather was nice on Saturday we decided to partake. Pimm's is an alcoholic beverage which is generally served with lemonade. The Pimm's itself is actually a dark tea colour and looks kind of like a syrup to me. It is quite sticky and sweet which is why I believe it has to be mixed to taste good. The recipe is actually a secret but we do know that it is a gin based beverage. In order to make a Pimm's cup you then mix the ... more

    Advantages Advantages yummmmmmy

Disadvantages Disadvantages can't think of one!

Pimms 'Oclock! Anyone for a light summer beverage? Just imagine it, Hot weather, freinds and family, maybe the odd summer fate and a jug of Pimms and lemonade with fruits and sometimes veg... Yes, Veg. There's nothing better than enjoying a nice glass or two in the sunshine, or even as the sun is going down! Oh sod it... Enjoy it at anytime of the day! This is the only spirit drink that i could happily drink all day- as it's refreshing, light and it doesn't get you drunk- well. I've drank LOTS of it before and i never got anywhere. Probably down to the fact that you have to add 3 parts ... more
