more...lower noise and UDMA33 support. Plus it can be installed vertically and its depth has been shortened. This means it can now be installed in more types of PCs. The DVR-104 prevents buffer underruns for both DVD and CD media through the use of a unique Loss-less Linking scheme. This saves both time and money by eliminating the most likely cause of wasted media. Pioneer DVD drives have won an excellent reputation for long-term reliability. The DVR-104 is a fourth generation model, and takes advantage of all the technological developments that have gone into Pioneer's professional DVD products.

My first dvd burner

Advantages: Good drive, very cheap now
Disadvantages: Quite slow

...it is not guaranteed that pioneer built it, even though it was sold as a pioneer 104. When I tried to update the firware with pioneers software it said that it was not one of their drives. It gave me a code with which to search (for a long time) for who actually made mine. It turned out to be compaq. Firware update over and it ran perfectly on the new disks. Whilst this is probably nolonger the case, as any of these drives bought now will be updated ... Read review

Good DVD writer

Advantages: Writes DVDs
Disadvantages: Not the quickest drive

...is the OEM version without Pioneer on the front panel. The A04 and 104 are indentical apart from this. So how has it been? Firstly as CD, now this is a pretty good CD writer, capable of fast writing of CDs - an audio CD takes about 5 minutes to burn. I am not sure of the speed. Main CD writer uses for audio CDs and backing up digital pictures. It is pretty fast as a CD ROM but has stuck on the occasional tatty CD-R. Now as a DVD ... Read review
