Multiregion and Music
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
som2
Advantages: Excellent sound and vision reproduction, plays CDRs
Disadvantages: Remote control, frame reverse
I bought my chipped Pioneer 525 DVD player over a year ago now and ever since I have been incredibly pleased by its performance. At the time of purchase I was looking for a machine around the 300 pound mark which not only had excellent video playback, but also excellent sound quality, as I was keen to incorporate it into my hi-fi system as a CD player. The CD playback is smooth and easily comparable to a player of around the 200 pound mark. The only ...

Pioneer DV525 or DV535
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
groomoid
Advantages: Cheap, good picture and sound, multi region(if chipped),Plays all CD's
Disadvantages: None for me
...place to write about the Pioneer DV-535, but as the only difference between the two models is that the DV-535 is black and the DV-525 is silver & doesn't have an optical out. This seemed as good a place as any.
I have read some reviews on this site and others, and like most people did a fair bit of research on forums etc. This is a very good DVD player for the money. I brought a multi region one from richer sounds for £207 including 3 years warranty. ...

Pioneering DVD
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
Andyroo007
Advantages: Cheap, Very good looking and wonderful picture
Disadvantages: None
I have spend a lot of time listening to and evaluating the latest DVDs on the market. After looking at around 10 Market Leaders from companies like Yamaha, Panasonic, Sony, and the like, I finally settled on this DVD player. I thought the sound and Picture quality and in particular the features on this DVD were very impressive. Everything about it looks and feels right. The quality of the construction matches the quality of the picture even the remote ...

A decent player
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
debug
Advantages: Plays CDRs
Disadvantages: Size, Noise from Player, Remote control
I bought this player on the premise that it could play VCDs recorded onto CDR's and I've not been disappointed. The playback is fine from pretty much every type of media I have tried.
As for DVDs, its very well specced, and doesn't have problems with any of the more tricky titles such as Matrix or Something About Mary (region 2).
The player has multiple ports for SCART, and S-Video with outputs for Dolby Digital and DTS (although you need a DD/DTS ...

Good all-rounder
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
andyev
Advantages: full feature, VCD playback
Disadvantages: noisy disk drawer
...your video recorder) as the Pioneer doesn't have a UHF output. However this is the norm with DVD players as it is a digital standard and not really designed for use with ropey televisions!
The picture quality is as good on many of the more expensive machines. It has none of the green tint you get on some of the budget machines such as the Proline.
All in all the Pioneer represents excellent value for money. It is a nice looking machine, and ...

Advantages: Beats video by far
Disadvantages: None
...the extra and got the PIONEER DV-525 it plays every DVD the picture quality is excellent as is the sound. Having seen the difference it makes to the picture quality and sound I would choose it over a video player anyday.
I will not question my husbands need for the best ever again this has proved to me it is worth it. ...

Excellent player, easy hookup
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
joshnev
Advantages: Excellent audio, video, easy hookup
Disadvantages: More expensive than VHS
...the player.
I settled on the Pioneer 525 for a few reasons. One, the quality of Pioneer products has always impressed me. Two, the price along with the rebates available. Three, the available outputs through the back of the machine.
The price I paid was about £275, plus an S-video cable (for those with modern televisions). The S-video I highly recommend for crystal clear hookups (I chose a cable from Monster Cable). I would have preferred an included ...

Why DVD
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
ia_young
Advantages: Great picture/sound...
Disadvantages: cost
A lot of people say why go to DVD, for a start the DVDs are a lot more expensive than normal Video's. People have also said, why do I need the extra features than come with DVD, I did without them before when I watched normal videos. Plus the majour difference you can't record them at a reasonable price like of normal VHS videos.
I suppose this it was like when CDs first appeared in the 80s, every thought whats the point. You can't record onto ...

Good all rounder!
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
PaulaJC
Advantages: Plays CDR discs/DTS compatible
Disadvantages: Small remote
After scouring the shops and websites and much deliberation, I bought this DVD player, which I thought was a really reasonable price for the specification. The sound and picture quality are fantastic and the disc compatibility is also superb with no problems at all. the remote control is a little on the small side but holds all thefunctions necessary to operate the DVD player. The machine does make a small amount of noise when the disc rotates but ...

No Vices?
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
PhilipNichols
Advantages: Construction, appearance, performance and price
Disadvantages: Remote control handset a bit fiddly
I bought this product because it had a reputable brand i.e. Pioneer, which tended to suggest good quality construction. I also bought it because it was readily available, had a pleasant appearance and was a reasonable price. I bought it from the John Lewis chain of department stores and received their usual good service.
Once home, unpacking the product and setting it up was simple, thanks to clear instructions. My only gripe with the product ...

Good but could be better
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
mikechamp
Advantages: solid build, plays VCDs and CDRs
Disadvantages: Price and has to be 'chipped'
I bought the Pioneer 525 as a multiregion player. It had to be 'chipped' to perform as a multiregion player, but there are now plenty of players around that can be changed with the use of a simple code.
The player itself is solidly built and plays VCDs and CDRs which is a bonus as many players do not. I have a fair experience of other players and this one is definetly the best one I've used, so far I've not had any trouble playing any DVD or VCD ...

Triumph Of Functionality
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
ftang
Advantages: Cheap! Does the job better than you would expect. Lots of features
Disadvantages: Ugly. Functional. Poo Remote
I bought this player for £300, as such I had it firmly placed in the budget DVD category.
i was a little bit nervous, despite its seemingly impressive specs.
Well, I must say i havn't been disappointed.
First up, it plays DVD's. Which is good...you might expect this from a DVD player :)
The image quality is excellent on par with some £500+ models I've seen and has a host of features (although not zoom, but who really wants to close up their ...

A good player now outdated
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
Mooseman
Advantages: Quality of picture and sound
Disadvantages: CD playback not as good as CD separates
...and demoing, I found the Pioneer DVD 535.
I have still not seen any reviews of this machine in the press, however going on the well known quality of the 525 I shelled out £209 and have definately been more than happy.
I have seen some forums discuss a noisy platter, but compared with most I demoed it was nice and quiet.
Have a look if your in the market for a £200-300 DVD player....you wont be sorry. ...

One of the best DVD-Players available
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
SlimmyJimmy
Advantages: Plays DVD, VCD, CDR and CDRW
Disadvantages: Most advanced features only accessible from the remote
This DVD player has a load of features and is easy to set up and get running. I actually never bought one, I won it in a contest on the web in January of 2000. It's durable and to date I have had no problems with it. I have played over 200 DVD movies on it and probably twice as many CD's and to my amazement it could read VCD,CDR, and CDRW.
Playing movies is a breeze with the large play, pause and search buttons. The advanced features however are ...

Too old now
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
colin99
Advantages: Top notch pictures and sound
Disadvantages: Mechanically noisy and spindle motors fail
...looking at buying a second-hand Pioneer DV-525.
Compared to modern DVD players, it does show its age. Though capable of playing DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW (not all of which had even been invented when this machine was built!), along with Video CD and SVCD, it will not play MP3 nor display CD Text.
All usual DVD player functionality is in there, including Widescreen support. The remote control is not laid out in a particularly ...
