Advantages Advantages Reliable connection at a decent speed

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pray that you never need to call tech support. Much better value available elsewhere.

BACKGROUND As an early internet user, I have been online since the bad old days of 24k modem dial-up access in the early 1990s. I consider myself a fairly sophisticated user, and as such, have tended to be quite picky about my Internet Service Provider (ISP). My first ISP was Easynet, who I first signed up with in 1994. Despite giving their customer many years of excellent, first class service, the company decided to shift its focus to the business sector, and re-invented itself as a business to business ISP. Although they did not actively try to shed home users on their dial-up packages, the ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast access, good pricing, good communications.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some features need manual activation.

Things were getting dicey in Chez Duke. The amount of time that I was spending on the internet was really starting to annoy the other people who live in this house as they couldn't take or make phone calls. I'd been eyeing up broadband of some description for a while and finally it came down to acceptable pricing levels. The first thing I did once I'd decided to get broadband was to surf to www.adslguide.org which is an excellent site containing almost everything you need to know about DSL broadband services including information on providers, equipment etc. My main criterion was, of course ... more

Advantages Advantages No problems in 7mths of running it, 12 email 'mailboxes', local rate support

Disadvantages Disadvantages 'dialup' style, daft email addresses that require aliases, only available to BT Customers

When moving home at the end of last year, I was certain of one thing: I was going to get rid of my old Dialup Connection (reviewed on here sometime ago) and switch to Broadband. Dialup was slow, inconvenient (I need to have the phone line free at all times), and no longer suited my browsing habits (heavy and often!). My initial problem was which one to choose. My sister had just signed up with BT Broadband, and was experiencing a lot of problems with her service. I knew I wasn't going to go for BT Openworld, but that left me researching the alternatives. Wannadoo/Freeserve (only just moving ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick Setup, Great Features, Free Equipment, 1 Month Contract

Disadvantages Disadvantages None That I've Come Across

Pipex have been around for years, they were one of the earliest ISP's in the UK and have always been the most reliable. They don't waste as much money on media coverage as other providers but offer a much better service. There's no connection charge on residential accounts and they even provide free ADSL equipment (2 free microfilters, an Alcatel Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem, and data cable). As for the modem itself, the installation was flawless and operation has been very reliable. It comes with two applications, one aimed at less experienced users which will analyse any connection error ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages nothing but problems, lies, no return calls, phone is put down on you

Pipex Internet LIMITED - 30 Day Trial & General Dissatisfaction - nothing but problems, lies, no return calls, phone is put down on you, taken money even after the contract has ended, no free routers, customer service (joke) advisers have no idea what is going on, they deny a 30 day trial even exists until you say you have it in hard paper form in front of you, they can't even give you a consignment number for your imaginary parcel that has been supposedly dispatched! We have had no end of problems since signing up for Pipex business pro broadband. Never choose an ISP because of their price or ... more

Advantages Advantages Better than most ISps

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still has it's own problems like loss of connection

Pipex, Is it really one of the better ISPs? I have been a Pipex customer for a year or so now and don’t agree with all the praise that this ISP is getting. I do agree that compared to most other Internet Service Providers it wins hands down for certain aspects like: • No charges for it’s equipment (modems, cables & microfilters) • No line activation charge • Good contention ratios • And quite importantly a Customer Services department that doesn’t take an eternity to get through to nor cost an arm and a leg to do so. • No capping on monthly use. • No charges for changing address. There was a ... more

***************Why Broadband?? *************** Finally some internet speed! Since changing my job I've been yearning for an internet connection that will allow me to download all the lovely stuff that I managed to find surfing in the job before. Yes the current job is a keeper so it doesn't seem a good idea to abuse the system by grabbing mp3s and games from the grand sources the web has to offer. In direct contradiction to a belief I recently heard; "Who needs faster internet access? it just means faster porn, and who needs faster porn?" or something similar (I’m paraphrasing). I need faster ... more

Advantages Advantages Pretty quick upload and download times. delivers what it says.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be confusing sometimes, lack of documentation.

I've decided to break down this review into 4 sections. The choosing, the ordering, the set-up and the actual use. I'd like to stress that some of the issues raised in this op are due to a misunderstanding between myself or my gilfriend and not necersarily Pipex customer support. ***CHOOSING*** In December last year, my girlfriend decided she wanted to get broadband. Although she was on a Freeserve dial-up package which was doing what it said, we were starting to get into content that warrants broadband. I have a passion for net-based animations such as Weebl & Bob and she was getting into net ... more

Advantages Advantages Leading ISP, good value packages, web space.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dont think about moving in the first year, communication after instalation.

What a minefield choosing a broadband supplier seems to be these days. There are literally hundreds of offers out there. So the main question is, who the heck should you choose to take your money from you then? Well, when I wanted to loose the dreaded two hour cut off on the Freeserve anytime dail up 'service', I set about surfing (though now it feels like I was pedaloing!) the net to try and find a deal that balanced both cost and features. A good place I found to start was www adslguide.org. They have all of the major suppliers listed together with the specifications and costs of each ... more

Advantages Advantages Uncapped broadband for download

Disadvantages Disadvantages Shoddy customer agents, relentless on petty clauses, never give in

I actually joined Pipex, not from choice but acquisition of what I was a member, Homecall (Cauldwell Communications). Homecall greatest feature was broadband (uncapped) with free calls and relatively cheap international calls. Customer service was reasonable but it was a shock when Pipex took over. 1. Customer Service 0870 number - charging 8p per minute just to deal with queries and problems of which there were many, However, this can easily be bypassed by using their reception 0161 number and put through to customer services by the operator. However, the greatest problem customer service is ... more
