I've suffered with hayfever since I was tiny and piriton has been a brand i've been using for absolute years. It's a brand that I know I can trust - it's effective, readily available and affordabley priced. Piriton is used to help with allergies such as nettle rash, insect bites, food alergies or alergies to medicine. It can also be used to treat more serious allergic reactions and helps calm down the effects of the allergy - eg swollen eyes, swollen tounge. This is because the medicine contains something called chlorphenamine maleate, which blocks the chemical that causes allergic reactions ... more

Advantages Advantages Stops itching and irritation

Disadvantages Disadvantages None really for me

RELIEF AT LAST WITH PIRITON I like to keep a pack of Piriton tablets in the home. Fortunately nowadays these aren't something I have to use very often, but the need does arise and, often without warning, which makes it advisable to have these handy. Piriton is an antihistamine preparation to treat many conditions, especially those causing itchiness and irritation such as: hay fever, chickenpox, insect bites and stings, allergic reactions, skin problems and so on. I have sensitive skin. This I can usually keep under control but I have occasional bouts of dermatitis, and some things do just ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to take, works for my Urticaria, works quickly

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price for some, doesn't seen to work well for hay fever suffers

*My story to how I got to purchase Piriton* Around eight years ago out of the blue I started feeling hot and my body seemed to itch uncontrollably all over, almost straight away I noticed little blister like bumps forming on my skin that quickly turned bigger and covering my body. As I didn't know what was happening I started to panic and of course my blister like bumps seemed to worsen. My husband rang NHS Direct and they diagnosed me with chicken pox and to see my doctor in the morning, I knew she was wrong but I am not a doctor or nurse so carried on with her advice. After an hour the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages none that I have discovered

Intro Although I am not prone to suffering from allergies as such I do have the odd bout of hay fever type symptoms. This is the time of year where those unfortunate enough to have this very irritating and unpleasant condition find most discomforting. There are several proprietary remedies or aids available over the counter and Piriton is perhaps the best known of this selection. Piriton The main active ingredient of Piriton is chlorphenomine maleate, which is an anti- histamine. Histamine is a substance produced by the body in reaction to an allergy of some kind, it causes some rather nasty ... more

I have been suffering terribly from hayfever recently, well really all summer and I never normally suffer from it. I ignored it at first and hoped it would go away but it got to the stage I kept sneezing and it was putting me off doing my work and so it was time to cure it. I looked at a lot of hayfever tablets but none seemed that promising but I went for Piriton as it is one of the more well known brands and it looked like it covered what I had perfectly. It isn't cheap but if it worked I wasn't really bothered about buying it. APPEARANCE Piriton comes in a yellow and orange box with the ... more

Although I love the spring/summertime what I do not look forward to is the allergies, in particular the hayfever. I have asthma and I think I am more susceptible to these types of things that irritate the eyes, lungs, throat etc. Hayfever can make you feel really rotten and I hate the fact that sometimes I think its better just to stay in than to brave the outdoors as I know I will suffer if I go out. WE live in the country and so are surrounded by fields and I think this is often the trigger of my hay fever, especially when the farmer it doing anything to his crops such as harvesting them. ... more

Advantages Advantages fast effective relief from allergy symptoms

Disadvantages Disadvantages might make you sleepy when you first use them.

Hayfever is not fun, I have had it since I was about 14.I get itchy eyes, a runny itchy nose and an itchy throat. My Mum recommended Piriton to me as she suffers from hayfever aswell. It is a general anti-histhamine, so it can be used to treat any sort of minor allergic reaction. When I first tried it, it made me so incredibly sleepy, I took two a day for about a week and I had built up a resistance to the sedative in them. They get to work in about 15-20 minutes, so it is best to take them sooner rather than later. i have used them for hayfever, wasp stings, bug bites, stinging nettles and much ... more

What can I say? For anyone who has ever had an allergy, Piriton is a life saver. I have three dogs, and two of them have allergies. The Doberman has hayfever and the Labrador has an unspecified allergy to something that inflames her skin. Both the dogs take piriton every day, which stops the Doby's eyes weeping gunk and stops the Labrador from the worst of the itching. My husband has taken it after a couple of nasty insect bites; the itching and inflammation has improved and there are virtually no side effects (check the packaging in case you have a sensitivity to any of the ingredients). The ... more

2 Stars Quick review of Piriton Allergy Tablets by NotForMeThisTime 07/08/2008
I got bitten by an unknown insect yesterday and my leg swole up. I was advised to take piriton. I took it at lunch and within half an hour I was dangerously tired, literally falling asleep at my desk. I wish I never took it as I feel so terrible and heavy. Lets hope it actually helps the bite, although it seems to continue radiating heat
